Chapter Eighty-Seven: Luring the Demon Dragon
Chu Feng quickly finished the food he had ordered. After eating, he took a big gulp of mineral water, finally feeling some relief in his stomach. He pulled two hundred yuan out of his pocket and placed it on the table; the owner and his family were not having an easy time, and he wanted to help a little, since it wasn’t much to him anyway.
Upon returning to the hospital, Chu Feng went to find Jess. Previously, it had been mentioned that the Black Dragon would call every night at ten o'clock to check in. It was already nine fifty.
“Mr. Jess, you must be hungry. Here, try some of China’s famous roast duck.” Chu Feng tossed a roast duck to Jess, urging him to eat something.
Jess didn’t stand on ceremony. He grabbed the duck and started gnawing—it had been a long time since he’d had anything to eat, only managing a little water at the police station, and none at all since being brought here.
At ten o’clock, the phone beside Chu Feng suddenly vibrated. He picked it up and saw that the number was international.
“Pick it up. It should be your master calling. Remember, don’t let anything slip,” Chu Feng warned Jess as he handed him the phone.
Jess answered and began speaking with the Black Dragon in English, as they always used that language for calls.
Chu Feng sat nearby, watching Jess. He understood English well and had no fear of being deceived. After four or five minutes, Jess ended the call.
“The Black Dragon has agreed to come to China. However, he wants me to meet him at the same hotel as before, and he’s bringing someone else this time. Who that is, he didn’t say.”
To avoid suffering the torturous death by slow slicing, Jess described the situation in dire terms, just as Chu Feng had taught him.
“I’ll make new arrangements. Did he mention a specific time?” Chu Feng wanted to make absolutely certain nothing would go wrong, so he would have to revisit the Jia Hua Hotel to set things up.
“Three days from now. He’s expected to arrive at the hotel at night, and the mother and child must be there as well, or the Black Dragon will become suspicious.”
As the Black Dragon’s assistant, Jess was familiar with his habits: rarely venturing out in daylight, only taking walks at night.
After asking about some of the Black Dragon’s habits, Chu Feng left the room, determined that nothing could go wrong with this operation.
Leaving the room, Chu Feng found Ma Han and instructed him to send the special operations team to pose as hotel staff and thoroughly investigate the Jia Hua Hotel.
After Ma Han left, Chu Feng returned to Elder Chen’s hospital room to rest. The day’s events had left him exhausted.
The next morning, just after seven, Chu Feng woke naturally from sleep. He had always kept a strict routine, though the first couple of days at the Air Force Hospital had thrown him off.
After getting up, Chu Feng checked in on Elder Chen, who was still sleeping. He went to the bathroom and washed up.
When he finished, he saw Elder Chen awake and changing clothes. Elder Chen always wore hospital garb and insisted on dressing herself, never letting anyone help.
As soon as she was dressed, Han Xuefang entered with a small cart. Upon seeing Chu Feng, she pouted—she hadn’t seen him all day yesterday, and her calls hadn’t gone through.
“Why pout so much? Are you hanging a vinegar bottle?” Chu Feng teased, brushing her nose with his hand.
“It’s none of your business. I called you yesterday and you didn’t answer. I looked for you and couldn’t find you. I asked them, but none would say,” Han Xuefang replied, referring to Old Jin and Old Wang.
“I had urgent business and went back to my hometown yesterday. I only returned last night, but you were already off duty when I got back. What could I do? Who told you not to wait for me!” Chu Feng had no choice; there were things he still couldn’t tell her.
“Here, I brought you breakfast, eat up. I’ll go measure Elder Chen’s blood pressure.” Han Xuefang handed him breakfast, having spent all yesterday anxious because she hadn’t seen him.
She brought breakfast today on a whim, unsure if Chu Feng would actually be back.
Chu Feng grabbed the breakfast and devoured it ravenously. Old Wang wouldn’t arrive until eight, and it was a little after seven.
He didn’t finish all of it, saving some for Elder Chen. Though her health wasn’t great, she could still eat some vegetable buns.
After breakfast, Chu Feng massaged Elder Chen, then prepared her herbal medicine. Once she had drunk the medicine, he cautioned her not to blame herself too much, and explained his plan in detail.
Elder Chen, as always, reassured him: “Go ahead boldly, I’ll back you up. Don’t worry about anything.”
After leaving Elder Chen’s room, Chu Feng went to find Old Jin. To capture the Black Dragon, he needed the cooperation of Old Jin’s wife and child.
He spoke with Old Jin for half an hour, and only after repeated assurances did Old Jin agree to let his wife and child return to Shanghai to assist Chu Feng with the operation.
Before leaving, Chu Feng specifically asked Gao Zhong to mobilize a special operations team from the military district, whose sole purpose was to protect Elder Chen.
With all preparations made, Chu Feng flew from the Capital Airport to Shanghai with Chen Feng and Jin Jiaxiang.
Ma Han had already brought Jess along. After arriving at the airport, Chu Feng took a special vehicle straight to the Jia Hua Grand Hotel.
Once at the hotel, it was still room 708, occupied by Jess and the mother and child.
Chu Feng stayed in room 706, and had installed surveillance and bugging devices in 708. No matter what happened inside, Chu Feng would know immediately.
On the second night at the Jia Hua Hotel, the Black Dragon suddenly called Jess, telling him he had arrived in Shanghai and would soon be at the hotel.
The moment Jess received the news, Chu Feng, via the listening device, heard their conversation.
Chu Feng quickly notified Ma Han and the others to prepare for the capture—this time, they had to apprehend the Black Dragon. Only by doing so could they further investigate the organization known as the Scorching Sun.
Chu Feng remained in room 706, which contained a computer monitor showing the hotel lobby’s surveillance feed as well as room 708’s.
After a while, Chu Feng saw on the monitor two foreigners wearing baseball caps and sunglasses approach the hotel front desk.
