Li Zemíng glanced at Mo Guoping, who lay collapsed on the floor, utterly devoid of sympathy. People like him—rotten apples in the barrel—needed to be swiftly purged from the ranks of leadership.

“Divine Physician Chu, after you left that day, my son’s surgery went extremely well. He’s out of danger now and recuperating in the hospital.” Li Zemíng recounted the successful operation to Chu Feng, still hoping to invite him to his home for a meal.

“There’s no need for dinner,” Chu Feng replied, bluntly. “To be precise, it’s thanks to you and your wife’s good upbringing. If your son had been a spoiled official’s child, arrogant and domineering, I wouldn’t have lifted a finger.”

Chu Feng’s words offered Li Zemíng no face at all, but he wasn’t worried about causing any discontent.

After exchanging a few polite words, Chu Feng led Zhou Tao’s men back to the hospital. As for the battalion sent by General Gao, Zhou Tao ordered them to return to the military district.

By the time Chu Feng and his group returned to the hospital, it was already past ten in the morning. Elder Chen’s ward had been switched back—the previous, newer room simply couldn’t compare in terms of facilities and comfort.

Chu Feng first visited Li Qun’s room, checked the injury on his leg, and went over some precautions. After chatting for a bit, he left.

As Chu Feng approached Elder Chen’s room, Nurse Han Xuefang suddenly emerged. Upon seeing Chu Feng, her cheeks flushed red, and she quickly hurried away.

Watching Han Xuefang’s blushing face, Chu Feng felt inexplicably bewildered. He couldn’t fathom what was wrong with her.

He shook his head, then entered the ward. The two soldiers posted at the door watched Chu Feng with fervent admiration in their eyes.

“Hey, look at this guy—he’s probably about our age, yet he’s managed to forge connections with our superiors. We’re stuck here, standing guard.”

“Who do you have to blame? You didn’t study hard enough in school. Standing guard is still a job, right? Just treat it as training.”

The two soldiers at the door discussed Chu Feng’s background. There was no envy for his talents, only a sense of admiration.

“Chu Feng, I heard that when you arrived at the villa, that person had already escaped, leaving behind a letter mocking you,” Elder Chen said, beckoning Chu Feng to sit by his side.

“I suspect someone on the inside tipped him off. Otherwise, how could he be so well-informed about our movements?” Chu Feng had realized from his first day in the capital that Elder Chen’s circle must harbor a spy.

Yet after all this time, he’d found no one who fit the profile. Some weren’t even privy to the details of the operation.

“Be careful, then. I’m just an old man—when it comes to fighting and killing, I’m no help to you. You’ll have to rely on yourself,” Elder Chen said with a tone of melancholy. He had once been a warrior, fighting on the battlefield for his country. Now, in his twilight years, possessing cutting-edge knowledge, he found himself targeted by shameless individuals.

“No one capable of killing me has been born yet. I’d like to see who can keep me here,” Chu Feng replied with bold arrogance. He had the means to back it up—the watch on his wrist was his trump card.

“That’s the spirit. Young people should be fearless, charging ahead. Lose your head—just a scar the size of a bowl. Eighteen years later, you’re a hero again,” Elder Chen laughed, his own blood surging with pride. It had been a long time since he’d uttered such impassioned words.

Chu Feng continued to channel his watch’s vitality into Elder Chen, maintaining his health. Only when his physical condition improved could the shrapnel in his body be safely extracted.

“Chu Feng, let me offer you some advice as someone who’s been through it all: settle down before you set out to build your career. That little nurse seems decent. I even heard Old Jin say you gave her a ring worth more than three hundred thousand.”

“I won’t comment on how much you spent, but at the very least, you should give her some recognition. Randomly gifting a ring like that—it’s not right.”

After finishing the massage, Elder Chen spoke earnestly to Chu Feng, urging him to try connecting with the nurse. Who knows, it might just work out. Elder Chen treated Chu Feng like family, and Han Xuefang was a respectable young woman.

“Elder Chen, please don’t mention it again. If I ever truly feel something for her, I won’t wait for her to say it—I’ll pursue her myself,” Chu Feng replied. He knew Han Xuefang was a good person, but he also understood his own circumstances. He couldn’t act rashly and ruin her life.

Elder Chen said no more, and Chu Feng took out a chess set, passing the idle time with a game.

After lunch, Chu Feng had Elder Chen lie down for a nap and went out. As soon as he left, he bumped into Han Xuefang.

“Come here, I have something to tell you.” Han Xuefang pulled Chu Feng to the stairwell of the safety exit.

“What’s up? What do you need?” Chu Feng looked at Han Xuefang, her cheeks flushed, bewildered by her behavior these past few days. Every time she saw him, her face turned red.

Was something showing? Chu Feng checked himself—his clothes were neat, the zipper properly closed—so why was the nurse blushing so fiercely?

Hearing Chu Feng’s words, Han Xuefang cursed him inwardly for being an idiot. A girl calls you over, takes your hand, and you ask what’s going on?

“I have something to say to you. I like you. I want to be your girlfriend.” With that, Han Xuefang embraced him.

Chu Feng was stunned by the sudden hug. He hadn’t expected this little nurse to confess her feelings.

He was at a loss—if he accepted her, his secretive identity could bring trouble if enemies sought revenge. If he refused, it might break her heart, and she was sincere.

“Well, let’s try dating for now. We don’t know each other well yet, and I’m not sure if we’re compatible,” Chu Feng stammered, berating himself afterward for being such a fool—chased by a girl, no less.

“I knew you’d agree. Looks like my mother was right,” Han Xuefang said, skipping away like a beautiful sprite, leaving Chu Feng watching her, enchanted.
