When Old Chen woke and asked whether he felt any discomfort, the young officer was overjoyed.

"I’m fine. Has Old Jin’s wife and child been brought back?" Old Chen did not ask anything else; what he cared about first was whether Old Jin’s family had been reunited.

"I sent people to fetch them. His wife and child are both all right, so you can rest easy."

Chu Feng did not tell Old Chen that the two of them had been injected with drugs. That was not something that could be said now; it would have to wait until some time had passed.

Chu Feng and the young officer remained in the room for a while. Not long after, Old Chen drifted back into a drowsy sleep.

"Chu Feng, I’ve brought the people back, but that kid called Jess is really slippery. He nearly fooled me." As soon as Chu Feng and the young officer came out of Old Chen’s ward, Ma Han was waiting outside.

"Officer, I’ll excuse myself for a moment. I’m going to find out what happened." Chu Feng said to the young officer, then left with Ma Han.

"Old Jin’s family has been reunited. Don’t let them meet yet. I’ll take them over personally in a little while."

Chu Feng still had to give Old Jin some instructions. These were all things Old Chen had specifically told him. Though Old Jin had done wrong, his sins did not warrant death.

Chu Feng and Ma Han arrived at the warehouse where Cang Lang and the others had been held. Now there was no Cang Lang here anymore, only Jess.

"Hello, Mr. Jess. We meet again." After entering, Chu Feng greeted Jess with a smile.

"I never thought you people would turn out to be from the military. That was my miscalculation. If you want information from me, I advise you not to waste your effort. I know nothing."

When Jess had been taken back, he had been stunned to discover that the people who had captured him were actually under the Chinese military. It had completely caught him off guard.

"That’s all right. One of the men in your organization, someone called Mad Dog, said the same thing. But he didn’t last two minutes under me before telling me everything about your organization’s roots. Let’s see whether you can hold out longer than he did."

Chu Feng feared no one more than a hard nut like this. As long as they were stubborn, he had a way to make them talk. What he hated were the spineless ones who would ramble on and on, saying nothing of any use.

"Then I’m quite curious. China calls itself a land of courtesy and propriety. Surely you wouldn’t use torture on a mere scholar like me."

As expected of Magic Dragon’s assistant, Jess had quite a tongue. He was trying to seize the moral high ground and force Chu Feng to refrain from torturing him.

"You don’t need to press me with that sort of moral posturing. Yes, we are a nation of propriety, but your people were already trying to kill me. Why should I bother with courtesy toward you? Not having you executed by slow slicing is already showing you immense favor."

Chu Feng would not fall for that trick. In his eyes, anyone who dared lay hands on him had only one road left: death.

"Speaking of slow slicing, you may not know this, but I can do it too. First, strip you naked. Then take a fishing net and suspend you in the middle of it. You know fishing nets have those small diamond-shaped holes. Someone keeps pulling on the net while the skin and flesh on your body surface bulge outward and inward."

"At that point, I’d take a scalpel and slice the meat off you piece by piece. If my hand were steady enough, you might live for three days. You might even be able to see your bones, your heart, and your intestines."

Chu Feng was only trying to frighten Jess. Even if he truly knew the technique of slow slicing, he would never use it on a human being; it was far too inhumane.

"Don’t say any more. I believe you know that method." Hearing Chu Feng’s words, a nameless terror welled up in Jess’s heart. He knew very little about Chinese culture.

But when Chu Feng spoke, there was a strange force in his tone, a force that made him feel more and more afraid.

"Then answer my questions now. Where is Magic Dragon? And how did you get into the country from overseas? Did someone give you a special route?"

For mercenary groups like theirs, there were many ways to cross into the country from abroad. Aside from sneaking across the border, they could also have Chinese officials arrange temporary identities for them so they could enter.

"Someone arranged a temporary travel document for us, but it was issued to me by Lord Magic Dragon. I don’t know who handled it. As for Lord Magic Dragon’s whereabouts, I don’t know that either. We only communicate by phone."

Jess was terrified Chu Feng would truly have him slowly sliced to death, so he hurriedly spilled everything he knew.

"I’ll give you a chance. If you can lure Magic Dragon into China, I’ll let you live. Otherwise, I’ll use you like a lab rat for experiments."

Chu Feng still held a thread of hope that this assistant might lure the rest of the organization into the country. As long as Magic Dragon dared set foot in China, Chu Feng would have a way to capture him.

"Then it’ll have to wait until night. Lord Dragon calls me every night at ten."

Hearing Chu Feng say he would use him for experiments like a lab rat, Jess was instantly so frightened he wet himself.

"You’re supposed to be Magic Dragon’s assistant, and yet look at you. I’m really starting to wonder if Magic Dragon is blind. How could he favor a useless assistant like you?"

Seeing Jess wet his pants, Chu Feng covered his nose and went straight back outside.

Once outside, Chu Feng took a few breaths of fresh air, then smoked a cigarette by the stairwell before taking Old Jin’s wife and child to see him.

"Old Jin, I’ve brought back your wife and child. Go on and be reunited as a family."

Chu Feng said a few words to Old Jin and also conveyed Old Chen’s special instructions. Old Jin became so emotional that he was about to kneel again to thank Chu Feng. Chu Feng pulled him up and let the family be together.

Chu Feng had originally meant to return to Old Chen’s ward and sleep, but after walking only a few steps he heard his stomach rumble.

He had no choice but to take the keys and go out to find something to eat. He simply could not get used to the food in the hospital.

In the end, Chu Feng went back to the place where he had eaten with Han Xuefang last time. The snacks there were quite tasty, and also fairly inexpensive.

He ordered a few simple dishes. He had wanted to drink chilled wine, but then he remembered he still had to drive, so he put the bottle back.

Not long after, the owner brought the food over and even added some extra meat for him.

After the owner left, Chu Feng picked up his chopsticks and began to eat heartily. Since returning from Shang Hai, he had been busy with one matter after another and had not even thought about food. Only after everything had finally settled down did he realize he was hungry.
