Chu Feng’s question left Wang Feng momentarily stunned.

With a cold snort, Wang Feng retorted disdainfully, “Mr. Chu, are you out of your mind? All the scalpels that killed those officers bear your fingerprints. As a doctor, you should at least understand something so simple. Now you’re trying to weasel your way out? Do you really think we’re fools?”

The father and daughter standing nearby were equally perplexed.

It was a fact beyond dispute: in order to protect Li Yuewu, Chu Feng had killed four of the men who opened fire first. How could that be changed?

“I think this young man is quite something. Let’s wait and see what he intends to do,” the father said, then added, “Yuewu, I know Dr. Chu Feng saved your life. Rest assured, I’ll do everything I can to keep him safe.”

After hearing Wang Feng’s righteous response, Chu Feng replied indifferently, “Murder? If these men were still alive, would it still constitute murder?”

“There is no ‘if.’ You’ve already committed the crime, and they’re all dead,” Wang Feng thought to himself, Is this guy crazy, talking about such an outlandish hypothetical at a time like this?

Wang Feng continued, “Mr. Chu, don’t bother struggling in vain. No one can protect you now!”

Chu Feng raised an eyebrow and countered, “No one can protect me? I don’t need any protection at all.”

With that, he strode over to the corpses of the four gunmen.

Wang Feng had no idea what tricks Chu Feng was up to. Several officers watched him cautiously.

Li Yuewu was tense and curious as well.

Under everyone’s gaze, Chu Feng moved among the bodies, pausing here and there, pulling out the scalpels embedded in them. At the same time, he transferred a year of his own lifespan into each corpse.

“Stop tampering with the crime scene! You can’t erase those fingerprints no matter what you do! Come with us to the station and cooperate with the investigation,” Wang Feng signaled to his subordinates to prepare to act.

But just then, the four gunmen who had died so suddenly began to cough violently.

Everyone present was utterly shocked!

“Is this… resurrection?” Li Yuewu could hardly believe her eyes and instinctively took a step back.

The father had seen many things in his life, but never anything like this—bringing the dead back from the brink. He felt his scalp tingling. He already knew Chu Feng’s reputation and admired his medical skills, but what Chu Feng had just done went far beyond medicine—this was the stuff of miracles!

Of all those present, Wang Feng was the most astonished.

He was in charge of the case, and just moments before, several officers had confirmed that all four men were dead, showing no signs of life.

Yet now, without doing anything but pulling out the blades, Chu Feng had brought them back to life!

This was simply absurd. Wang Feng felt reality slipping through his fingers.

Chu Feng brushed his sleeve and said, “A charge of murder requires a murder. Now that these men are alive, is there any need for me to continue cooperating with your investigation?”

Wang Feng was left speechless. As long as these men lived, and with the father’s backing, Chu Feng could indeed protect himself.

What more could he possibly say now?

“Chu Feng, what kind of sorcery did you just use on those dead men?” Wang Feng demanded through gritted teeth.

The father focused all his attention, eager for Chu Feng to reveal his methods.

Chu Feng shook his head. “Sorcery? This is just the art of healing, saving lives with medicine. People like you would never understand, so there’s no point in explaining.”

This operation had been nearly a success, but Chu Feng’s intervention had ruined everything at the last moment. Wang Feng was deeply frustrated, wondering how he would report back.

The father’s concerns were now put to rest. As long as no one had died, the situation was entirely different.

“Officer Wang, since no one is dead, the murder charge is now baseless. However, I have a question for you,” the father said. “Since Dr. Chu Feng hasn’t killed anyone, then why did these four so-called plainclothes officers open fire on my daughter without cause? May I take them with me to clarify the matter?”

Wang Feng’s mind went blank at those words.

If those four “plainclothes” men were taken away and interrogated, he was doomed.

Hearing that he might be taken away, the gunmen glanced at Wang Feng, pleading for help.

Wang Feng composed himself and said, “Director Li, I’m afraid I can’t comply with your request. These officers were dispatched directly by the province; they cannot cooperate with you.”

“What if I insist on taking them?” the father said, suddenly turning forceful.

Wang Feng and his men tensed, knowing full well they were in Shanghai City.

After a moment’s silence, Wang Feng made up his mind. “Director Li, if you make things difficult for me, don’t blame us for disregarding ranks and protocol!”

The officers behind Wang Feng stepped forward, making the father realize the situation.

There were over a dozen officers on Wang Feng’s side; the father was alone. If conflict broke out, they had the provincial authorities to back them.

After weighing his options, the father stated solemnly, “Young man, go tell your boss behind the scenes that the Li family will get to the bottom of this. He had best be careful.”

Seeing the father back down, Wang Feng wasted no time, leaving immediately with his men.

After all, the job wasn’t done, and further trouble would only make things worse.

...

“We’re just going to let them leave like that? This is infuriating!” Li Yuewu stomped her foot in anger.

Her father comforted her, “I know you’ve suffered in this matter, but trust me—I promise you, I’ll see this through and uncover the truth.”

Li Yuewu knew her father was sometimes powerless, so she didn’t press the issue.

“By the way, Dr. Chu, how did you bring them back to life just now? That was amazing!” Li Yuewu asked as she grabbed Chu Feng’s arm.

Her father was also very curious, wanting to know whether Chu Feng truly possessed such miraculous ability or was just putting on a show.

If Chu Feng really could bring the dead back to life, and would help the Li family with just one matter, the benefits for both parties would be immeasurable!

The secret behind Li Yuewu’s question was known only to Chu Feng himself. Not even his closest confidants knew the answer, let alone the Li family.

Naturally, the father understood that Chu Feng had his reasons, so he didn’t press too hard.

He smiled and said, “Dr. Chu, you’ve spent so many days caring for my father. Now you’ve saved my daughter as well—our family truly doesn’t know how to thank you!”

“Old Mr. Li was assigned to me by the hospital; treating him is my duty. As for Li Yuewu, I simply couldn’t stand by and do nothing. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave,” Chu Feng replied calmly.

The father declared at once, “This whole matter was aimed at the Li family. Rest assured, Dr. Chu, you’ll get a satisfactory explanation.”

Chu Feng answered, “I’m honestly not that concerned. Just let me know if there’s any news. Farewell.”

Watching Chu Feng’s departing figure, Li Yuewu stomped her foot in frustration.

“I’ve never met anyone so arrogant! He’s insufferable—always acting cool, never paying me any mind,” she said angrily.

But her father said earnestly, “Yuewu, you’re still young and inexperienced. The more eccentric a person is, the greater his abilities! Dr. Chu is an outstanding young man. You’re not so young yourself anymore—have you considered...”

“Dad, you’re starting again! Are you that worried your daughter won’t get married? Let’s go home—I’m tired!” Li Yuewu huffed as she climbed into the car.

...

It took Chu Feng about ten minutes to return home.

He lived in a luxurious villa.

“You’re back, sir?” A middle-aged woman came out of the kitchen and greeted him.

“Where is Miss now?” Chu Feng asked.

Housekeeper Zhang replied, “Miss is practicing the piano.”

Chu Feng went upstairs and pushed open the music room door.

Only a faint light filled the room; all the windows were covered.

“Brother, you’re back!” Chu Yan’er beamed at him when she heard the door.

Chu Feng’s tone was full of gentle affection. “You’ve improved again. Play another piece for your brother.”

Chu Yan’er smiled sweetly. “If you like it, I’ll play just for you from now on.”

The beautiful notes of the piano floated through the air. Lost in the music, Chu Feng nevertheless felt a lingering melancholy.

His sister had suffered from a strange illness since childhood: when it flared up, she couldn’t be exposed to light at all, and her body grew weaker each time.

Because of this, Chu Yan’er could never live like other children, basking in the sun. Chu Feng had to rely on his unique abilities to prolong his sister’s life—ten years of his own lifespan bought her only one more month. To cure her completely would require more years than he dared imagine.

He had scoured the rare family tomes handed down through generations and found that his sister’s illness was connected to his powers. The exact cause remained a mystery. Years of research had only taught him that upgrading his wristwatch might unlock new functions.

“No matter the cost, I will cure Yan’er so she can live in the sunlight. Only then can our deceased parents rest in peace. I would rather betray the world than let the world betray me!”

At that moment, a knock sounded at the door. With permission, Housekeeper Zhang entered the music room.

“Sir, a gentleman named Li has come to see you,” she said respectfully.
