Chapter Sixty-Nine: All Captured
The assassin behind Chu Feng, armed with a crossbow, never expected Chu Feng to react so quickly, dodging his arrow in an instant. But when he saw the three black men facing Chu Feng, he was momentarily stunned as well. He had come alone for this mission, without any backup, and the employer hadn’t mentioned anyone assisting him.
The remaining two men in black, after witnessing their companion fall dead, immediately pointed their long knives at the assassin from the Sunfire. They hadn't anticipated Chu Feng’s sudden arrival, nor the presence of another companion behind him.
Intense beams of light illuminated the ground; neither Chu Feng nor the Sunfire assassin moved, both waiting for the vehicle casting the bright light to approach. Soon, the car stopped, and three men stepped out, each holding a military dagger—specifically, the trident-shaped kind. Hiding behind the car, Chu Feng recognized the daggers immediately, knowing these must be Ma Han and his team. Only the military from Huaxia used such weapons, once employed in counterattacks, later banned internationally for their brutality.
“You three handle the remaining two in black—I’ll capture this one!” Chu Feng suddenly darted out from behind the car, shouting to Ma Han and his men. As he finished, Ma Han sprang toward the assassin with the crossbow.
The Sunfire assassin, seeing Chu Feng rushing at him, raised his crossbow, attempting to fire the last arrow. Just as his hand came up, a sharp pain shot through his arm—a slender knife had pierced it, burying itself completely except for the tip.
The assassin dropped the crossbow, drew a Nepalese military knife from his back, while Chu Feng simultaneously flung two scalpels—these were aimed at the two men in black, not the Sunfire assassin. Both scalpels struck the men in black in the back, and Ma Han and his team instantly subdued them. Now, only the Sunfire assassin remained.
Seeing this, the Sunfire assassin gripped his Nepalese knife and charged at Chu Feng. Chu Feng dodged back, then picked up the crossbow from the ground, retreating several paces.
When the assassin realized Chu Feng had taken his crossbow, he turned and ran. Earlier, he’d glimpsed Chu Feng’s companions subduing the two men in black; against four opponents, he’d stand no chance.
Chu Feng saw the assassin trying to escape, fired an arrow into his thigh, and rushed forward, knocking him out with a knife-hand strike. Afterward, Chu Feng searched the assassin, finding two more small, easily concealed crossbow arrows hidden on his back.
“Chu Feng, those three men in black are from the Sakura Path—they all have plum blossom tattoos on their arms,” Ma Han said, approaching and revealing their identities.
Ma Han’s words surprised Chu Feng; he hadn’t expected people from the Sakura Path to target him. After he exposed their conspiracy last time, they hadn’t appeared again.
“This guy has a sun tattoo on his neck—isn’t he a Sunfire assassin?” Chu Feng stripped the assassin’s clothes, revealing the tattoo.
“Exactly. All Sunfire assassins bear a sun tattoo on their necks—it’s their mark of identity,” Ma Han confirmed after examining it closely.
“Let’s take them back. Put the three Sakura Path men with the Wolfpack, let them exchange a few words,” Chu Feng said, loading the Sunfire assassin into his own car, while Ma Han placed the Sakura Path men in his vehicle, watched over by Wang Chen and Xiao Hei.
“Sir, the mission failed. The Sakura Path and Sunfire men have all been captured. Should we proceed with the next step?” As Chu Feng and his team departed, another figure emerged from the other side of the wasteland, making a phone call.
“Return for now. I have other plans for this matter,” came the reply—a calm, unruffled voice. The gentleman seemed unsurprised by the mission’s failure, as if he’d expected it all along.
In a villa in the capital, the lights were off and moonlight streamed in. A young man sat on the sofa, tossed his phone aside, and picked up a glass of red wine, swirling it gently.
“I hope you don’t disappoint me. It’s been a while since I’ve had a worthy opponent. Try to hold out a few more days—let me savor the thrill,” he murmured, swirling his glass and speaking to himself. This young man was the gentleman.
Chu Feng and Ma Han drove directly to the hospital, isolating the Sunfire assassin in a separate room—Chu Feng intended to interrogate him in secret. He poured a bottle of alcohol over the assassin’s face, the sharp scent rousing him gradually.
“Hello. Let’s have a proper conversation today. Start by telling me your name,” Chu Feng said, sitting in a chair, holding a glass, eyes fixed on the Sunfire assassin.
The assassin glanced at Chu Feng coldly, then closed his eyes. He knew he would not survive—failure in Sunfire meant only death, and now he’d been captured.
“I admire your resolve. When you finally open up to me, I’ll feel a sense of accomplishment,” Chu Feng said, sounding almost perverse. It was an act; Chu Feng deliberately played the role of a tormentor to unsettle the assassin psychologically.
Chu Feng was a skilled physician, and he’d also studied psychotherapy, originally for his sister’s sake. He took out a set of silver needles and swiftly inserted one into a specific acupoint on the assassin’s body.
Quickly, Chu Feng added several more needles, each causing the assassin to tremble. “I’ll ask you one last time—tell me your name, your origins, and who ordered you to assassinate me,” Chu Feng spoke now with utter coldness, devoid of emotion.
The assassin remained silent. Chu Feng pushed the needle deeper, and the assassin suddenly felt a surge of heat coursing through his body.
