Chapter 100: The Origin of the Purple-Haired Girl
“More or less, but the guy didn’t do anything too extreme—just gave him a little lesson,” Chu Feng briefly recounted the evening’s events to Old Chen. It wasn’t anything serious, just something to share and maybe lighten the mood.
“Society is like this nowadays. For an ordinary man to marry, it’s like carrying half a lifetime’s burden,” Old Chen sighed, a rare moment of reflection from him.
“I don’t care, as long as I have a wife. I’ve never been picky,” Chu Feng admitted honestly. He looked down on materialistic girls; given the choice, he’d rather pick someone from the countryside.
While Chu Feng and Old Chen chatted, Old Wang came in after handing out food to the soldiers outside.
“Chu Feng, where did you get all this delicious food? There’s even white sturgeon caviar here—that stuff costs over a hundred thousand,” Old Wang said, smacking his lips as he spoke, clearly having tasted the caviar.
“Bought it, of course. Nobody’s just going to gift me something like this,” Chu Feng replied, choosing not to tell Old Wang the whole story. That guy couldn’t keep a secret, and if he knew, the whole hospital would be buzzing by tomorrow.
“Old Wang, among the assassins you know, is there anyone with purple hair? A woman about my age?” Chu Feng’s unease grew. He had a feeling the purple-haired girl’s weapon was dangerous to him.
“Yes. Internationally, there’s a famous assassin called Purple Smoke. Her hair is purple, and she’s a stunning beauty,” Old Wang answered immediately, clearly well-versed in the assassin’s dossier.
“I met a girl today who had purple hair. I nearly got taken out by her,” Chu Feng said, recalling the terrifying moment when his life had nearly ended.
“You didn’t react because you fell under her charm technique. Besides being skilled in assassination, she’s adept at using her appearance to confuse her targets,” Old Wang explained in detail about Purple Smoke’s skills. Chu Feng found himself admiring Old Wang’s wealth of knowledge.
It was remarkable how effortlessly Old Wang recalled so much information, answering every question without hesitation.
“That must be her. But why would she target me? I haven’t wronged her,” Chu Feng wondered.
“That’s because of me. You’re my personal doctor, and many want you dead. If you die, I won’t survive either,” Old Chen, lying in bed, revealed the heart of the matter. Chu Feng was the only one capable of saving him, so his enemies sought to kill Chu Feng to ensure Chen’s demise.
“Here’s more bad news: the purple-haired girl’s organization is called the Scorching Sun, and she ranks even higher than Demon Dragon,” Old Wang added, startling Chu Feng. He hadn’t expected the Scorching Sun faction to retaliate so swiftly, nor to send a female assassin to eliminate him.
“What will you do? Besides you, you must warn Xiao Han to be cautious. They might use Han Xuefang as leverage,” Old Chen advised. Having weathered many storms, his experience was invaluable, and Chu Feng took the warning seriously.
In Kyoto, inside a luxurious hotel, a woman with the poise of an ethereal goddess was wrapping bandages around herself. A fresh bandage stained with a trace of blood covered her leg, indicating recent injury.
This woman was Purple Smoke—the assassin who had tried to kill Chu Feng earlier. She still couldn’t understand how he had escaped.
“Boss, the mission failed the first time. That guy was too cunning—I almost got him,” Purple Smoke said after finishing her bandaging, dialing Jack to report.
“Don’t act rashly these next couple of days. Demon Wolf is coming to assist you. This time, you must take that kid down,” Jack ordered before hanging up.
Upon hearing Demon Wolf would assist, a flicker of disdain crossed Purple Smoke’s face. In her eyes, Demon Wolf was merely a lecher trying to claim her. If they fought, she was confident she could defeat him within ten moves.
Chu Feng lay on the sofa, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. He kept thinking about that purple-haired girl who had put him into a trance-like state. Yet, just as he slipped into that dazed condition, his mind had snapped back instantly. He had instinctively pressed the accelerator, saving his own life.
He raised his left hand to look at the wristwatch. Ever since acquiring it, his life had taken a new course.
He had always thought the watch’s sole function was to store human lifespan and use it to save lives. But today, it seemed he had discovered another feature.
What exactly that feature was, Chu Feng had yet to uncover. Staring intently at the watch, his focus sharpened.
In this heightened state of concentration, he even heard the chirping of insects outside the hospital.
Could this be the watch’s new ability—to enhance hearing? If so, it seemed somewhat trivial.
After pondering without conclusion, Chu Feng finally drifted off to sleep on the sofa.
The next morning, Chu Feng rose early, freshened up, and then helped Old Chen dress.
Old Chen’s health had declined somewhat in recent days. The incident involving Old Jin had weighed heavily on his spirits.
Soon after, Han Xuefang entered, pushing her cart to measure Old Chen’s blood pressure. Afterward, she handed Chu Feng the breakfast she had brought.
She had grown accustomed to bringing him breakfast every morning, purchased from a small eatery not far from their home.
After eating, Chu Feng massaged Old Chen before heading to the hospital’s traditional medicine department to prepare herbal remedies. Only by consistently taking these could Old Chen’s condition gradually improve, allowing time to schedule surgery to remove the embedded shrapnel.
