A group of people charged recklessly all the way to the door. Zhou Yu was at the forefront; after opening the door, he didn’t leave immediately but turned back to keep hacking away. Only after everyone had made it out did he step outside himself, shut the door, wedged it with his dagger to keep it closed, and then ran back to join the others.

“Let’s hurry and load up the vehicles,” Zhou Yu said. “We still have places to go. We need to reach our destination before nightfall.” After speaking, he called Nian Yu over. “Honey, you’ll drive in a bit. I’m going to find another vehicle.”

Nian Yu looked puzzled. “Another car? What for?”

“I can’t always sleep in the car, can I? And we need to change clothes and everything. You can’t go without a change, especially during your period.”

Nian Yu said nothing, but her eyes reddened. Zhou Yu was always so careless about himself yet unfailingly attentive when it came to her. She understood in her heart that even if what he gave her wasn’t always what she wanted, it was always what he considered the best.

Seeing her reddened eyes, Zhou Yu grew anxious. “What’s wrong, honey? Why are your eyes red? Are you feeling unwell?”

She rubbed her eyes. “It’s nothing. Go find the car.”

Though Zhou Yu harbored some doubts, he didn’t press further and began searching the bodies of the zombies.

Most people in the mall’s underground parking garage were car owners. Sure enough, it didn’t take long for Zhou Yu to find five or six sets of car keys. He tried them one by one. Though one belonged to a Mercedes sports car he’d once loved, it was utterly impractical now. Two others caught his eye: a stretch Hummer and a Windjun RV. Zhou Yu hesitated for a long time before settling on the RV. It wasn’t that he didn’t want the Hummer, but he simply couldn’t drive such a long vehicle.

By the time he’d made his choice, everyone else had finished loading up. “Zhao Yan, you drive my old car. Nian Yu and Xiao Jie, you two take Zhao Yan’s vehicle.” He added, “This time Zhao Yan leads, I’ll follow behind, and you just keep up with me.”

They set out in search of a supermarket. After clearing out two supermarkets, Zhou Yu reckoned it was enough. “Let’s look for some brand stores and grab some clothes. We haven’t changed in ages.” Thus began their hunt for clothing.

Once they’d finished, Zhou Yu said, “Wang Kui, come with me. No need to drive. The rest of you wait here for us and stay safe.”

Nian Yu and Xiao Jie said in unison, “You be careful too.”

“Relax,” Zhou Yu replied with a laugh. “Your husbands are seasoned veterans. Nothing will happen. Besides, I’ve got Wang Kui with me.”

Once Zhou Yu and Wang Kui got in the car, Zhou Yu asked, “Ever been to the black market?”

Wang Kui replied, “I have, but we’ve already got plenty of guns and such.”

“We’re not taking firearms this time, just cold weapons,” Zhou Yu said.

Wang Kui simply grunted in acknowledgment.

In no time, they arrived at the black market. There were hardly any zombies there. Zhou Yu guessed the outbreak must have hit around midnight; otherwise, there’d be more than just a couple of zombies in the black market.

After dispatching the zombies, Zhou Yu entered a store. Inside, cold weapons of every kind lined the shelves—blades, spears, staves, axes, halberds, hooks, tridents, and more. Zhou Yu selected a large machete and tucked a Tang sword into his belt. He told Wang Kui to pick out whatever caught his eye, then left him to it.
