Chapter Forty-Three
Zhou Yu looked at Xiao Jie in surprise and asked, “How do you know about Asura? That doesn’t make sense. When Asura disbanded, you were still in school.”
Xiao Jie replied, “Because my instructor at the police academy told us about it. He had met Asura before.”
Zhou Yu nodded in sudden realization. “Ah, that explains it.”
Xiao Jie pressed on, excitement in her voice, “Zhou Yu, you still haven’t told me—who are you, really?”
A little embarrassed, Zhou Yu scratched his head and said, “Ahem, well, back then my codename was Scholar.”
Xiao Jie cried out in shock, “What? You’re the Demon King Scholar?”
Zhou Yu looked a bit awkward. “I suppose that’s me, but I never really felt I was all that demonic. Heh.”
At that moment, Zhao Yan and Wang Kui rushed in, eyes wide as they stared at Zhou Yu. Evidently, they had overheard Xiao Jie’s exclamation and, filled with excitement, had hurried inside.
Nian Yu, seeing everyone’s astonished expressions, nudged Xiao Jie and asked, “What are you all talking about? Was my husband really that impressive in the past?”
Xiao Jie said, “Zhou Yu, why don’t you get up first? With so many people watching, it’s not appropriate.”
As it turned out, Zhou Yu had been kneeling on one knee the whole time. At Xiao Jie’s words, he didn’t hesitate and stood up.
Zhao Yan spoke up, “Nian Yu, sister-in-law, let me explain.”
After glancing at Zhou Yu and seeing no objection, Zhao Yan continued, “Asura was a rather unique organization in the underworld. It existed for just over two years before suddenly vanishing without a trace.”
“What made it so unique was that they took on any job—protection, assassination, direct assaults, intelligence gathering—there was nothing they wouldn’t do.”
“As for the members, I only know their codenames.”
He paused, then went on, “They were: Warlord, Demon King, Enchantress, God of Cars, Sniper King, and Titan. Just a small group of six.”
“But it’s said that each one of them was at the level of a king of soldiers.”
“Each of them became famous for their own special skills.”
“Warlord’s martial arts were almost unmatched; he rarely used weapons.”
“Enchantress was a genius with computers, though her other abilities and weapons remained a mystery.”
“God of Cars was a world-class driver, but again, details about his skills and weapons were unclear.”
“Sniper King’s marksmanship was peerless, never missing a shot.”
“Titan was immensely strong—supposedly able to fight Warlord to a standstill.”
Zhao Yan glanced at Zhou Yu, then continued, “Demon King wielded two blades—one a broadsword, wielded with overwhelming power; the other, a gunblade, appearing as if from nowhere. No one had ever seen both weapons used at the same time.”
He looked at Zhou Yu and asked, “So, are the things I know accurate?”
Zhou Yu smiled. “Not all of it, but you must have participated in one of our protection assignments.”
Zhao Yan replied, “That’s right. There was a mission protecting a wealthy businessman where we worked with your group. But you were all wearing sunglasses, and you, Enchantress, and Sniper King didn’t show up. Still, I knew all of you took action in that mission.”
Zhou Yu said, “Ah, so that’s how it was.”
Zhao Yan asked, “I’ve always wondered—why did you disband?”
Zhou Yu responded, “Why do you want to know?”
Zhao Yan said, “No particular reason. It’s just that you were on the verge of ruling the entire underworld, yet you disappeared so suddenly. It doesn’t make sense. And none of you seemed the type to retreat while at your peak.”
A trace of sorrow flickered in Zhou Yu’s eyes.
