Chapter One Hundred and Twelve
Liu Haishan gave a silly, sheepish grin.
Zhou Yu said nothing more, taking Nian Yu by his left hand and Xiao Jie by his right, and walked outside.
Once outdoors, he saw everyone still busy with their tasks. He called out, "Everyone, stop for a moment."
Zhou Yu waited a few seconds until everyone had ceased their work and turned their attention to him.
"I’m sure you’re all wondering why I called you here," Zhou Yu continued. "Let me be clear: today I am getting engaged, and I’m in a good mood, so I’ve summoned you all for a meal. While I’m at it, I wanted you to see my women, and to make it clear that while you are free to pursue anyone else in this base, they are off-limits. Furthermore, don't even think about causing them trouble while I’m away, or trying to capture them to use as leverage against me. If you do, I promise you will suffer a miserable end."
"Alright, enough talk. The one in the pink dress is Nian Yu; she will be in charge of the base's internal affairs. The one in the cheongsam is Xiao Jie; she will handle logistics. The one in the black dress is Pan Yuxin, who will be responsible for communications and reconnaissance. You’ve all met them now, so get back to work. Once the food is ready, make sure to bring some to the villa. Don’t let us go hungry while you’re eating."
In truth, Zhou Yu didn't really need to say it; no one would dare provoke his women, at least not now. The new instructors he had brought in were not just for show; they all respected his authority. They had witnessed Zhou Yu’s capabilities firsthand, and they weren't fools—they understood exactly what he was capable of.
After finishing his speech, Zhou Yu led the three women back into the villa. Inside, the group was laughing and joking, paying no mind to the pouting Xiao Beibei.
Except for one person: Liu Haishan.
Ever since Zhou Yu had stepped outside, Xiao Beibei had remained seated, pouting in silence. It was unclear whether she was sulking because everyone had blamed her for speaking out of turn, or if she was still unhappy about Liu Haishan’s confession earlier. Regardless, she sat there with her lips pursed, while Liu Haishan watched her nervously from the side.
After a while of merrymaking, the staff outside began delivering the food to the villa. Xiao Jie stepped up, acting like the lady of the house, and began welcoming everyone.
Zhou Yu turned to the three women and said, "That’s enough, stop working. Go upstairs and put on some warmer clothes. If you want to wear those, save them for tonight when it’s just us. The doors are all open right now; it’s freezing."
The three women understood the situation and, without a word, headed upstairs to change.
Xiao Beibei walked up to Zhou Yu and asked, "Why are you allowed to have three women?"
"And why shouldn't I?" Zhou Yu retorted.
He had never particularly cared for this outspoken and willful girl.
"The national law states that marriage is monogamous," Xiao Beibei insisted.
Zhou Yu gave a disdainful laugh. "Heh, national law? Monogamy? Let me ask you this: what about the people with money and power who keep mistresses? Why don't you go report them? Why doesn't the state investigate them?"
"Also, let me say this one last time: things are different now. Don't try to use the old laws to restrain me—it’s useless." He gestured toward the room. "Oh, and by the way, there’s a man over there who is steadfast and loyal. You should pay attention to him."
"Hmph, him?" Xiao Beibei scoffed. "He’s nothing but a block of wood, and a coward to boot."
Despite her sharp words, she began walking toward Liu Haishan.
Liu Haishan, watching as Xiao Beibei approached him immediately after her conversation with Zhou Yu, felt a surge of anxiety. He had no idea what she wanted with him.
Zhou Yu, for his part, was just as uncertain.
