Chapter Twenty-Three: Wang Kui Awakens
Nianyu looked at the astonished Zhao Yan and said, “Yes, it’s exactly as you guessed—premonition.”
Zhao Yan was truly surprised to hear that her evolved ability was premonition. Even as a special forces soldier, he only had a sense of danger, yet here was an ordinary person able to foresee enemy attacks or evade them. How could he not be amazed?
Steadying himself, Zhao Yan spoke solemnly, “Sister-in-law Nianyu, I need to try again. But this time, I’ll use seventy percent of my strength.”
Nianyu showed no fear and replied calmly, “Go ahead. I want to see just how strong I’ve become.”
“Sister-in-law Nianyu, be careful now,” Zhao Yan warned, then sprang into action.
He lunged forward, leapt into the air, and aimed a flying kick straight at her. The moment Zhao Yan jumped, Nianyu’s mind foresaw his next move. She quickly dodged to the side, though a bit clumsily.
After landing, Zhao Yan didn’t pause. He spun around and delivered a straight punch toward her. Seeing him coming, Nianyu rolled on the ground just in time to narrowly avoid his punch.
Realizing she’d dodged, Zhao Yan stabilized himself, crouched, and swept his leg low in a sweeping attack. As soon as he halted, Nianyu’s mind anticipated the sweeping kick, so she rolled backward several more times, muttering to herself under her breath.
Seeing her evade yet again, Zhao Yan stopped his attacks.
Although Nianyu’s dodges were awkward each time, she managed to evade every single attack. Watching her, Zhao Yan remarked, “Sister-in-law Nianyu, your premonition is impressive. The only flaw is that you can only instinctively dodge, but you can’t counterattack.”
After getting up, Nianyu shouted at him, “Little Yan, you rascal! Who fights like you? Attacking high, middle, and low all at once!”
Zhao Yan replied, “Sister-in-law, I can’t help it; it’s just my habit now.”
Nianyu glared at him. “So, you’re used to it, huh?”
Zhao Yan looked a bit aggrieved. “Really, it’s become second nature. But sister-in-law, you still have a lot of weaknesses.”
Hearing that she had many shortcomings, Nianyu fell silent and lowered her head in thought.
Zhao Yan continued, “How about this, sister-in-law Nianyu—I’ll teach you a set of military combat techniques. Sister-in-law Xiao Jie, you should learn too.”
Nianyu looked at him with disdain. “Military combat? That’s just what they teach in basic training.”
Zhao Yan explained awkwardly, “Not that kind. This is much more advanced. The stuff from basic training does improve combat ability, but it’s only the basics of military combat.”
Nianyu’s curiosity was piqued. “So, if I learn this, will I be able to beat you?”
Zhao Yan scratched his head. “Not necessarily, but at least you won’t be as helpless and clumsy as before.”
Nianyu glanced out the window. The rain was still falling; who knew when it would stop?
She said, “Let’s practice, then. When that villain wakes up, I’ll interrogate him and make him teach me everything he knows.”
Zhao Yan grinned. “Alright, sister-in-law Nianyu, sister-in-law Xiao Jie, you both need to pay close attention.”
With that, Zhao Yan demonstrated a set of military combat moves. His punches and kicks were powerful and crisp, making Nianyu’s eyes shine with admiration.
When he finished, sweat beaded on Zhao Yan’s forehead. He then patiently taught Nianyu and Xiao Jie each move, one by one.
Two days passed. By then, Nianyu and Xiao Jie could perform the entire combat routine smoothly.
As evening approached, a voice suddenly called out.
“Is there any food? I’m hungry.”
Hearing the voice, Zhao Yan turned to see Wang Kui awake and cried out in excitement, “Wang Kui, you’re awake!”
