Chapter Fifty-Three
Zhou Yu pressed a hand to his forehead and said, “My dear lady, what exactly is it that you want to learn?”
Nian Yu clung to the sleeve of his shirt, gazing up at him with pitiful eyes. “I want to learn this one. It looks so cool! And it’s got a long range—it’s safer, right? Please, would you teach me, darling? Pleeease—husband—”
As she drew out the last word, she deliberately made her voice linger. Nian Yu knew that back when she and Zhou Yu were together, he had always been especially susceptible to such coquettishness; it worked better than any sulking ever could.
Sure enough, Zhou Yu relented. “All right, all right, my little ancestor. But there are so many people here…”
With a leap, Nian Yu wrapped her arms around his neck and planted a kiss on his cheek before bouncing away, exclaiming, “Yay! This is great! Soon I’ll be really, really amazing!”
At that moment, Xiao Jie approached and said, “Just like when you were little—you still act like a child who never grows up.”
Zhou Yu replied, “Honestly, I’d rather she stayed like this forever. But she’s only like this when I’m around.”
Xiao Jie added, “That’s wonderful, though. I wish I could be like that, too.”
Zhou Yu slung his arm around Xiao Jie’s shoulders, pulling him close with a laugh. “Oh? Why so sentimental all of a sudden?”
Xiao Jie struggled a bit, but seeing Zhou Yu had no intention of letting go, he gave up, his cheeks flushing. “Don’t do that, there are so many people… Besides, besides—”
Zhou Yu grinned mischievously. “Besides what?”
Xiao Jie said, “Besides, Nian Yu is still here.”
Zhou Yu laughed, “What’s there to be afraid of? It’s not as if we’re sneaking around.”
Nian Yu laughed too, “Exactly, what’s there to worry about? But I want a hug as well.”
Zhou Yu opened his other arm and drew Nian Yu into his embrace as well.
Looking down at the two beauties in his arms, Zhou Yu smiled and said, “To win the hearts of both of you in this life, I have no regrets.”
Nian Yu replied, “Don’t be so sure. Who knows if there’ll be a third or even a fourth?”
Zhou Yu frowned. “You don’t trust me?”
Nian Yu answered, “It’s not that I don’t trust you—it’s just that I know you too well. If that alluring demon girl who saved your life asked you to marry her, what would you do?”
Zhou Yu said, “Impossible. I already have you two.”
Nian Yu pressed, “And what if she doesn’t care about that?”
Zhou Yu replied, “That’s out of the question. I only see her as a sister.”
Nian Yu pressed further, “But can you say for certain that she sees you as a brother?”
Zhou Yu was about to say yes, but recalling the past, he hesitated. “Well…”
Nian Yu continued, “And if she threatened her life, insisting you marry her too, what then?”
This time, Zhou Yu fell completely silent—he no longer knew what to say.
If things truly unfolded as Nian Yu described, perhaps he really would end up marrying her as well.
Nian Yu wrapped her arms around Zhou Yu’s waist and said, “Zhou Yu, I want you to understand: Xiao Jie and I don’t care how many women you have—but that woman must be wholeheartedly devoted to your well-being. Otherwise, I’ll kill her. And you must never neglect Xiao Jie or me.”
Zhou Yu replied, “I understand, my love. I’ll treat you both equally and fairly.”
Nian Yu’s small hand pinched Zhou Yu’s waist hard, while Xiao Jie glared at him angrily at the same time.
Zhou Yu yelped in confusion. “What did I do? Why are you pinching me?”
Nian Yu retorted, “You’re asking me? Now you’re already dreaming of expanding your harem, aren’t you!”
Zhou Yu replied awkwardly, “Weren’t you the one who brought it up?”
Nian Yu put her hands on her hips and shouted, “How dare you talk back to me!”
