Chapter 154: Belief on Earth
Although he said he felt embarrassed, Yun Yang sensibly chose not to take any action.
After the three of them waited for more than an hour, Morgana sent a video over to Yun Yang.
Yun Yang eagerly watched it and was left somewhat dumbfounded.
Upon arriving at Demon One, Willis had been scared to the point of collapsing limply onto the ground, though this might have partly been due to the demons intentionally terrifying him.
In itself, this was nothing unusual; an ordinary person's performance in such a situation is rarely impressive.
However, once Morgana remarked that he was exceptionally well-suited to become a demon—a powerful, radical demon—Willis's attitude shifted.
The initial cowardice vanished entirely, replaced by obsequious flattery as he knelt on the ground, shouting praises to Queen Morgana.
He begged Morgana to grant him power and bestow upon him eternal life.
His transformation amused Morgana greatly, making her look as though she had found a new toy. The surrounding demons began to rejoice simply because their queen was in a good mood.
With no other choice, Willis forced himself to smile along.
Although he had no idea what these demons were finding funny, he could only comfort himself by thinking that it was because they were welcoming a new member, and that they must be happy.
Gradually, the laughter subsided. With a wave of Morgana's hand, Atai casually tossed a blue vial onto the floor.
"This is the demon gene serum. All you have to do is inject it, and you'll become a demon. Your lifespan will extend to a thousand years, you can drop... well, drop turds, and you can fly."
After listening to Atai's explanation, Willis picked up the vial from the floor and plunged it viciously into his chest.
Before long, a blue-skinned Willis appeared before everyone. Unlike typical demon conversions, he did not turn into a monster.
After sensing the state of his body, Willis looked at Atai.
"Why don't I have wings?"
"Apologies, my mistake. This particular one doesn't come with wings."
Though Atai's apology lacked any sincerity, Willis dared not talk back and simply lowered his head.
"My thanks to Queen Morgana. It is already my honor to become a demon; I dare not ask for more."
After that, there was nothing more to ask for, but this was already enough. Willis had surrendered to the demons in exchange for power, and for the sake of that power, he had truly become a demon.
Having finished the video, Yun Yang slowly broke into a smile. He truly had not expected that this man, who constantly shouted about severely punishing traitors and declaring war on demons, would abandon all resistance and guilt without a trace. He had joined the ranks of his enemies without the slightest psychological burden, so naturally that it was almost comical.
Ge Xiaolun and Su Xiaoli looked at Yun Yang's inexplicable smile, completely baffled.
The two exchanged glances and each reached out to slap Yun Yang on the shoulder.
Startled back to reality by the two hands hitting his shoulders, Yun Yang saw their puzzled expressions and simply forwarded the video to them.
After a short while, Ge Xiaolun spoke first.
"I never would have imagined. You truly can never judge a book by its cover. This Willis, who was always screaming for the blood of demons, actually..."
Ge Xiaolun left the sentence unfinished. Yun Yang said nothing, and Su Xiaoli, having already foreseen the outcome, made no comment either.
"Alright, it's time for us to spread this around."
Yun Yang stood up, speaking as if he were about to upload the video to the internet.
At that moment, Ge Xiaolun chimed in.
"I've already uploaded it. It's pinned at the top of all major websites. It'll start spreading rapidly in no time."
Yun Yang shrugged, then pulled the two of them back to Beizhiqiu.
By this time, it was prime time for night owls to roam the internet. Unless there was an absolute emergency, most people would take a look at a pinned video.
After all, have you ever seen a video featured on every single website simultaneously?
Meanwhile, in Beizhiqiu, morning had just broken. The three of them shared a simple meal, feeling that a proper day simply had to begin with breakfast.
As they ate, Ge Xiaolun repeatedly refreshed the page to check the video's view counts, comments, and danmu barrage.
The majority of the danmu expressed anger toward Willis's actions.
They felt terror at the methods of the demons—how a single vial could casually turn a living human into a demon was a deeply frightening prospect.
Another portion of the comments was spamming "Queen Morgana," attempting to express their faith in her in hopes that she would grant them infinite life.
With the appearance of comments expressing devotion to the demons, the conversation quickly veered off course.
The tone shifted entirely, with users spamming various mythical deities to declare their allegiance, though references to demons, angels, and the God of Death Karl remained the most prominent.
Angels claimed well over half of the mentions, followed by demons in second place, and the God of Death Karl trailing in last.
Watching the steady stream of Chinese danmu scrolling past, Yun Yang asked, "Why are they all in Chinese? And besides, the topic has completely derailed."
Ge Xiaolun was still deeply engrossed in reading the comments. Hearing Yun Yang's question, he also realized something felt a bit off.
With a grand wave of his hand, more than half of the danmu vanished, leaving only those expressing indignation over Willis's actions.
"Since we're the ones watching it, it naturally has to be in Chinese. If foreigners are watching, it appears in their own language through real-time translation," Ge Xiaolun explained after finishing his adjustments.
Yun Yang and Su Xiaoli exchanged glances, both seeing astonishment in each other's eyes.
To think something like that was even possible! While they didn't know how he pulled it off, it was surprisingly practical, wasn't it?
In this way, the spectacle of people all over the globe jointly condemning Willis came to life.
It wasn't just ordinary netizens who saw the event; Willis's own subordinates watched the video as well.
After finishing the video, the group fell silent for a moment before beginning to discuss.
"Willis actually became a demon? Then what does that make us? A joke?"
"This is a stain on our reputation. We need to sever all ties with him."
"Don't you guys think becoming a demon sounds pretty good, though?"
"Yeah, plus you get a thousand-year lifespan."
"What are the two of you trying to imply? Have you forgotten the deep-seated hatred we have for the demons?"
"Demons... honestly, becoming one doesn't seem that bad."
As soon as those words were spoken, the atmosphere in the room suddenly grew tense.
Those who had intended to voice their support saw the expressions on the other three members' faces, their lips trembled slightly, and in the end, they said nothing.
This heavy atmosphere persisted until the person who had expressed affinity for the demons raised his hands in surrender.
"I was just joking! The demons are still the things I hate most in this world."
At that moment, one of the others withdrew his hand from behind his back; his earlier surrender gesture had been prompted by the fact that he had reached behind himself just in case.
Following that, a few of them shifted their seats—the two individuals sympathetic to the demons sat on one side, while the remaining three sat on the other.
After that, the room fell into a heavy silence, with no one speaking a word.
Before long, the two individuals leaning toward the demons quietly left.
Meanwhile, back on Demon One, Willis was led by Atai back to his hotel room.
"Didn't you look down on the Genesis Squad? Now that you have power, go crush them."
Leaving Willis in a daze, Atai finished speaking nonchalantly and opened a wormhole to return.
The moment the wormhole closed, a pair of mechanical wings was tossed out from within it.
Willis stared at the mechanical wings for a moment before suddenly letting out a cold chuckle and muttering to himself.
"Look down on the Genesis Squad? How could I possibly look down on them? They're terrifyingly powerful—why on earth would I want to provoke them?"
Willis could clearly tell that the demons despised him, which was entirely understandable given how long he had spent cursing them.
The moment he appeared on Demon One, Willis had thought he was going to die, but a single sentence from Morgana had reignited his hope for survival.
Sure enough, he was still breathing fresh air, still lying on a soft bed, and had even acquired power beyond human reach—along with gear that allowed him to conquer the skies.
He still had vast stretches of life left to enjoy; why would he go out of his way to provoke the Genesis Squad? Wasn't doing whatever you pleased the true philosophy of a demon? He had no intention of crossing paths with them; he was going to go out and enjoy his life.
However, a question remained: why was he dropped off here instead of being with his friends?
He pondered it for a moment, but failing to find a clear answer, he simply decided not to think about it anymore. Today's experiences had been far too fantastical and terrifying; he needed a good night's sleep to calm his nerves.
Down at the hotel front desk, the receptionist had been zoning out in the middle of the night, sneaking glances at her phone to catch up on her favorite shows.
The video had popped up on her feed first, but she hadn't bothered to watch it, assuming it was just another ad that couldn't possibly be as entertaining as her drama.
Just as she was about to click out of it, she caught sight of a striking headline: *Willis, the Ultimate Human Traitor?*
The receptionist clicked on the video and simultaneously pulled up her computer records. Sure enough, within a few clicks, she found Willis's check-in log.
The receptionist nodded in satisfaction. *My memory really isn't bad after all; Willis is actually staying right here in our hotel.*
After finishing the video, she grew thoroughly terrified. Willis was staying in this very hotel, and she had actually processed a room for a demon—a demon who had even brought a young woman into his room!
Regardless of whether he had truly turned into a demon or not, she had a duty to ensure the young woman's safety.
She picked up the front desk phone and dialed the emergency police hotline without hesitation.
Before long, a squad of heavily armed armed police officers appeared at the hotel entrance, accompanied by three snipers equipped with God-Killing Rifles.
The officers quietly crept up to the door of Willis's room. There was no polite knocking or shouting about checking the water meter.
Instead, using the hotel's master key card, they opened the door directly. The moment they heard the electronic beep, three muffled gunshots rang out simultaneously from the night sky outside—the sound of the snipers stationed on perimeter watch.
Realizing something was wrong, the officers at the door immediately raised their weapons and rushed inside.
However, only the curtains were swaying gently in the breeze; the bed was completely empty.
Through their earpieces, the snipers reported that the target had already fled the room.
As a newly minted demon, even though the police officers' footsteps had been extremely light, Willis had heard them coming.
Initially, he hadn't paid much attention, but when the footsteps stopped right outside his door, he realized the situation had turned sour and immediately threw open the window, flying straight up into the sky.
At the exact same time, the snipers opened fire. However, the movement had happened too suddenly, and failing to anticipate that Willis could fly, their shots missed him entirely.
Even so, the attack thoroughly frightened him and simultaneously ignited the violent rage dormant within the heart of a radical demon.
