Chapter 119: I’m Sorry
Chapter 119: I Am Sorry
This slightly deadlocked situation was broken upon the return of the sniper teams. The angels flew toward the dispersed corridors, while Yun Yang and Ge Xiaolun headed toward the main passage leading to the command center, where the standoff was taking place.
Observing the soldiers waiting with their weapons drawn at the bend of the corridor, Ge Xiaolun waved his hand, conjuring a pile of translucent shields. The soldiers, recognizing these items, picked them up and advanced to the front line.
Leina and her two companions heard the footsteps behind them and turned to look. Their eyes lit up at the sight of the rows of soldiers holding shields—they recognized them. These were shields created by Ge Xiaolun using his anti-void abilities, capable of easily blocking the Taotie's attacks. With the final missing piece of their defense now in place, the Earth forces' offensive became instantly fierce.
Ge Xiaolun spent the time running across the flagship to deliver shields to the soldiers, while Yun Yang made his way to the front lines. Crouching behind Leina, he began to analyze the body data of the Taotie forces opposite them. He then signaled the soldiers to hold their ground and wait for his analysis to complete.
Two minutes later, Yun Yang signaled the soldiers to prepare for an assault. Though they did not fully understand his plan, they instinctively tensed their bodies, placing their trust in the judgment of this super-soldier.
"Charge!" Following Yun Yang’s roar, he swung his right arm down forcefully.
Simultaneously, the Taotie soldiers, who had been ready to launch a counter-charge, were struck by sudden, excruciating pain and slowly collapsed to the ground. The enhanced soldiers were stunned; upon reaching their designated positions, they looked at Yun Yang with shocked expressions. To eliminate over thirty Taotie silently with a mere wave of his hand—was this even human?
*Fortunately, he is on our side,* many soldiers thought. *If I were the target of such an attack, I might not run, but I would certainly be wiped out instantly.*
Next, the Taotie launched three more waves, all of which Yun Yang resolved in under three minutes, successfully breaking through to the entrance of the command center. Facing the massive alloy doors, Leina felt energy pulse in her palm, intending to use a miniature, non-radiative flare to blast them open. However, Liu Chuang stopped her, saying, "Sister Na, don't be so impulsive. Let me handle this; I’m an expert at opening doors."
As the soldiers cleared a path, Liu Chuang shouldered his God-Slaying Axe and stepped up to the alloy doors. He spat into his palms, raised the axe with both hands, and a faint red glow began to permeate the blade. With a thunderous boom, the heavy, powerful axe struck the alloy door, leaving a deep crack. Several more deafening strikes followed.
Under the gaze of hundreds of Taotie soldiers inside the command center, the two-meter-thick alloy door slowly toppled over, revealing a super-soldier clad in black armor, gripping an axe—it was Great Wall One, whom they all recognized.
"Open fire!" a Taotie commander shrieked at the top of his lungs.
The Taotie unleashed their weapons, a rain of bullet fire and energy blasts flying toward Liu Chuang, who was caught in the open. He used his axe to shield his face and dodged to the side. At that moment, the soldiers behind Liu Chuang stepped forward, blocking the incoming projectiles, and held their position at the doorway without advancing further.
Yun Yang began his analysis of their biological data. And so, the two sides stood in a bizarre stalemate, firing at one another from their positions, refraining from using area-of-effect explosives like grenades.
Ten minutes later, Yun Yang flew to the very front, braving the barrage, and spoke solemnly: "Surrender now and work for Earth, and you may live. You have one minute to decide."
As Yun Yang returned to the rear, Liu Chuang could not help but remark, "Yangzi, that’s not our policy. We can't keep the Taotie alive."
"I know that, of course. I just want to use them—researching on my own is never as fast as having engineers teach you. The combatants will all be killed, naturally," Yun Yang said with a cold shrug.
"Despicable," Liu Chuang and Zhao Xin said, giving him a thumbs-up in mock admiration.
"Keep it low, keep it low," Yun Yang said with an embarrassed smile, waving his hands.
The three of them shared a knowing, wicked laugh, while Qi Lin, Leina, and Wei Ying looked at the three acting like lunatics with expressions of utter disdain.
A minute passed quickly. Yun Yang stepped out again, but before he could speak, a miniature energy cannon of significant power appeared behind two Taotie soldiers and fired without hesitation.
Yun Yang’s pupils constricted. Without even having time to curse, he flew forward. He wanted to intercept the shell, preventing the explosion from harming the soldiers behind him—he could withstand a hit, but the soldiers would likely be severely wounded.
A massive explosion occurred, and the shockwave sent Yun Yang flying. Heat surged through the entire command center, engulfing more than half of it and turning a large portion of the Taotie into corpses. The shockwave, having nowhere else to vent in the confined space, followed the shattered door and blasted the enhanced soldiers at the entrance backward.
Inside the command center, Yun Yang, who had been slammed against the wall, took flight before he could even land. Glancing at the miserable state of the soldiers, he roared in fury, "You—you all deserve to die!"
The Taotie ignored him, struggling to climb up from the ground, shouting incoherently:
"Haha, die! For my God Karl!"
"Surrender? The glory of the Taotie King cannot be defiled! For my God Karl!"
"You are only worthy of smelling my God Karl's farts!"
"My God Karl, please witness our valor!"
As the Taotie continued to roar, Yun Yang saw the small energy cannon charging again. Without a second thought, he unleashed an ability he had been preparing for a long time.
As bodies within the room began to collapse and the smell of blood filled the air, Yun Yang said bitterly, "To hell with Karl."
He did not wait to admire his handiwork; he immediately linked to the injured soldiers. Finding that none had been killed, and most had only suffered fractures, he felt a slight sense of relief. He pushed his dark energy output to its maximum, dedicating it entirely to healing the soldiers.
Liu Chuang was the first to react. He bypassed Yun Yang and rushed into the command center with his God-Slaying Axe, only to witness a scene reminiscent of hell. His stomach turned; Liu Chuang felt that his own way of killing was already bloody enough—usually leaving his enemies in two pieces—but the heap of mangled flesh Yun Yang had created was nothing short of a psychological assault.
As Liu Chuang walked out with a grim expression, the remaining super-soldiers of the Black Troop thought there was still danger inside. Zhao Xin rushed in, shouting, "Brother Xin is afraid of nothing!"
Because Zhao Xin was too fast for Liu Chuang to stop, he could only block the women behind him, shaking his head to signal them not to go in, explaining, "It's a psychological hazard in there. Don't go."
Moments later, Zhao Xin, who had just entered, walked out looking pale. He looked even worse than Liu Chuang, clutching the doorframe as he vomited his lunch.
After a long while, Liu Chuang, having recovered, wanted to tease Yun Yang for being too bloody and disgusting. But seeing Yun Yang’s look of deep guilt as he treated the soldiers, he extinguished the thought, stood behind him, and patted his shoulder without a word.
Half an hour later, most of the injured soldiers had recovered—partly because they were not super-soldiers, which allowed for faster healing. Yun Yang stood up before the soldiers, his face serious, and said apologetically, "I am responsible for my reckless decision and for the injuries you sustained. I am sorry."
He bowed deeply to the soldiers, remaining in that position for a long time.
It was not until two soldiers walked up to him, one on each side, and pulled him up, thumping his chest, that he moved. "What is there to apologize for? Ask around—is there any brother here who blames you? Right, brothers?"
Yun Yang looked up at the thirty-plus soldiers who had just recovered and were resting on the ground, a glimmer of anticipation in his eyes. The soldiers looked at his expectant gaze, burst into hearty laughter, and said in unison, "No, none of the brothers blame you."
Then, they exchanged surprised glances before speaking again.
"We’ve been through life and death together now, haven't we?"
"Brother, your ability is amazing. Can you make certain things... bigger?"
"Let's go, the kills are all being snatched by those bastards who weren't hurt."
...
Amidst the chatter, Yun Yang keenly caught the question about making things bigger. It reminded him of a soldier who had nearly been castrated and the little nurse who had run away blushing. He could not help but laugh out loud.
"Pfft—who was it? Who wants to get bigger? Step out, I'll help you."
The room went silent. Then, one soldier was shoved out of the crowd by his neighbors. He scratched the back of his head in embarrassment and said, "Everyone, I was just talking, I..."
Before he could finish, Yun Yang interrupted him, saying something lewd with a completely straight face. "Brother, what model are you looking for? 18, a mace, a large mushroom head, or maybe a sausage? Have you considered it?"
Yun Yang spoke loudly enough for everyone to hear. More than half of them stood up excitedly, the lenses of their helmets staring fixedly at Yun Yang.
The soldier who had been pushed out asked cautiously, "Really? Is it that good?"
"Yes, it really is that good," Yun Yang said with absolute certainty.
"Give me a size 18, never mind the shape," the soldier said after some thought.
"Alright, pants off." As he spoke, Yun Yang pulled a dagger from his dark plane, showing a happy expression.
"Ah? Brother, why are you taking out a dagger?"
"If you want to get bigger, you have to cut it off first, obviously. I'll regrow it for you," Yun Yang said with an air of "it's only natural," saying something that filled everyone with dread.
As soon as he finished, he saw the soldiers backing away several steps, and the one next to him covered his crotch, shaking his head frantically.
"You don't want it anymore?" Yun Yang asked.
"No," the voice was filled with resolve.
"Are you sure?"
"I don't want it."
"Alright then. I really wanted to try, after all, there's a 50 percent success rate." Yun Yang made a look of regret, spouting nonsense with a straight face.
