Chapter Thirty-Six: He Doesn't Seem Like a Good Person
Chapter Thirty-Six: Doesn’t Look Like a Good Person
In Huaxia, on the outskirts of the North Star, five angels who had just repelled another wave of attacks from the gluttonous beasts were resting on the rooftop of a tall building. One angel, whose round face gave her a doll-like appearance, was sprawled on the ground in a most unladylike manner.
“Ah, Sister Leng, I have no energy left! Why hasn’t the idol arrived yet? How am I supposed to survive without him?” The angel on the ground spoke words rife with ambiguous meaning.
Angel Leng cast her a sideways glance and said, “Our little Breeze is thinking about her idol, and she’s not even three hundred years old yet. Tsk, tsk, tsk.”
Hearing this, Breeze sprang upright, shaking her small head frantically. “No, no, I’m only thinking about energy, not that!”
At this moment, Angel Qingxue approached her and spoke softly, “It’s been four days, and Yunyang hasn’t come. The gluttonous beasts have attacked so many times, and every time we use fiery bombardments to defend. The energy consumption is indeed high.”
“Yes, yes, he promised to come every night, but it’s been four days now. He’s not keeping his word,” Breeze seized the opportunity to complain about Yunyang.
Angel Yitian, standing to the side, sighed, “I wonder if something has happened to him. Queen Yan instructed us to hold the North Star at all costs, so we can’t go look for him.”
Leng listened to Yitian's words, lifted her chin disdainfully, “Queen Yan? Who’s Queen Yan? I haven’t acknowledged her yet.”
“Queen Yan was appointed by Queen Kaisha, so she’s our queen!” Yitian replied with reverence.
“Alright, alright, but the most important thing right now is energy. At this rate, Breeze won’t hold out much longer.” Seeing that Leng and Yitian were about to quarrel again, Angel Lingxi hurried over to smooth things out.
After a serious discussion among the angels, it was decided that Breeze, currently the weakest link due to her depleted energy, should go find Yunyang. So, early the next morning, Breeze set out, not forgetting to ask the human command center for directions, receiving a pile of grateful words that pleased her immensely.
On Yunyang’s side, he had lost his patience. After last time’s incident, Liang Bing was now almost always beside Qiangwei, even sleeping with her.
“Pfft,” Qiangwei couldn’t help but laugh aloud at Yunyang’s troubled expression.
Liang Bing, busy eating at another table, glanced at Yunyang but noticed nothing amiss, flashing him a broad smile.
Yunyang felt challenged by Liang Bing and, heated, stood up to confront her, “Qiangwei is my girlfriend. Why are you monopolizing her?”
Liang Bing replied languidly, “My little cabbage is about to be stolen by a pig. Shouldn’t I take care of the pig?”
“You’re a demon. What does Qiangwei have to do with you?” Yunyang felt Liang Bing was deliberately making things difficult for him, and though he wanted to act, he knew he couldn’t beat her.
“Who says there’s no connection? There’s a big one,” Liang Bing said mysteriously.
“What connection?” Yunyang and Qiangwei asked in unison.
“Of course… it’s a secret. I can’t tell you,” Liang Bing nearly blurted it out but turned sharply, wearing a smug expression as if daring them to do anything about it.
“Qiangwei, don’t hold me back. My temper’s about to explode.” Yunyang, all tough talk but still holding Qiangwei’s hand, walked away, while Liang Bing thought to herself that her little cabbage was really siding with outsiders.
Just then, a voice suddenly sounded in Liang Bing’s ear, full of tenderness.
“Liang Bing, the Lord of the Heavenly Palace, Hua Ye, has come to see me and wants me to install the Void Engine for him.”
“Karl, are you trying to get me caught by that disgusting fellow?” Liang Bing’s temper flared at Karl’s words, her tone a bit agitated.
“No, no, Liang Bing, I didn’t mean that,” Karl’s voice sounded flustered.
“Then don’t install that Void Engine for him.”
Karl on the other end was silent for a moment before replying, “Hua Ye is a perfect test subject. He has ambition, average ability, and his divine body is extremely tough, thanks to the resources during the Heavenly Palace era. It can withstand the Void Engine.”
“Bitch!” Liang Bing cursed fiercely, though it was unclear if the target was Karl or Hua Ye.
“Alright, Karl, you used your ultimate fear to threaten me before, and now you’re using Hua Ye. Fine, I’m done talking to you.” With that, Liang Bing cut off Karl’s covert communication.
Karl, though hung up on, didn’t get angry. He looked up at the endlessly chattering Hua Ye, listening to his disrespectful remarks about Liang Bing’s image, a ruthless gleam flashing in his eyes.
Time shifted back half an hour. Karl’s attendant, Snow, walked into the grand hall to inform him that the ancient evil god and King of the Heavenly Palace, Hua Ye, was coming to see him. Karl agreed to the meeting.
“Hua Ye, I am a scholar. I care nothing for the order of the universe. I desire only a stable environment to study the best wisdom.” He left the rest unsaid, but as a king, Hua Ye could discern his meaning.
“You and Liang Bing killed Kaisha, plunging the universe into chaos. Now you want me to restore order? What do you take me for?”
Hua Ye understood well. He wanted to be the architect of universal order, but he needed benefits and a raised status. To do as told, without question, would be no different from being a puppet propped up by others.
“Hua Ye, you misunderstand. As a scholar, I merely want a stable environment. Queen Kaisha’s justice is gone, but the known universe cannot be without order, or my research will become difficult.” Karl glanced at Hua Ye with a detached, emotionless gaze.
Hua Ye wasn’t angered. He knew he couldn’t win a fight. Though his divine body was formidable and not far behind the times, his technology was still ten millennia old, making it easy for others to exploit.
“Order isn’t really my concern. All I want is to control those beautiful angel women.”
He seemed to recall something and continued, “Especially Liang Bing. I want to tame that little bitch.”
“Then wait until I’ve researched a Void Engine suitable for you.”
On Earth, Breeze, having learned from the command center the general route of Qiangwei’s unit, had now arrived above their camp. Using her Insight Eye to scan, she gleaned Yunyang’s current location from the memories of ordinary soldiers. Ignoring their amazed and admiring gazes below, she spread her wings and flew toward Yunyang.
Hearing a faint landing sound, Yunyang and Qiangwei turned to see an excited angel running toward Yunyang, calling out loudly.
Breeze, a little overwhelmed to finally have energy, ignored Qiangwei beside Yunyang and shouted, “Idol, idol, I finally found you! You promised to come to us every night!”
Before Yunyang could respond, Qiangwei intercepted Breeze, smiling dangerously as she asked, “Who are you? What do you mean by coming to you every night?”
Breeze, not noticing Qiangwei’s smile, tried to reach for Yunyang but was blocked, and then answered innocently, “Of course it’s Yunyang. He promised us he’d come to the North Star every night, but he hasn’t for several days now.”
Listening to Breeze’s naive explanation, Yunyang was a bit flustered. Before Qiangwei could speak, he hurried to explain, “Let me clarify. Breeze and her friends are guarding the North Star, and their energy is running low. I promised to deliver energy to them every evening.”
Qiangwei cast Yunyang a suspicious glance, but finally suppressed her doubts.
“Yes, yes, idol, when will you come? The fiery bombardments have used up most of our energy these days,” Breeze added.
Yunyang considered it and decided to put personal matters aside and visit the North Star first, since the angels were guarding Earth.
He kissed Qiangwei’s cheek and said, “I’ll go now. The angels are guarding Earth, after all. I’ll come back to you tonight.”
Qiangwei understood the importance, nodded, and rubbed her cheeks, which had turned pink from embarrassment. “Take care on the road. I’ll wait for you.”
After replenishing Breeze’s energy, Yunyang, at her request, teleported to the North Star’s courtyard. Ignoring the surrounding soldiers, he ran straight to the designated meeting place.
Outside the Giant Bug Bridge on Pluto, Ruoning, who had been waiting for hours, was growing impatient. She recalled that there were several little angels on Earth, including her own apprentice, and decided to try recruiting her apprentice to help with her plans.
Unexpectedly, upon arrival, she was met with hostility from the angels, though she didn’t mind. She addressed Leng, “Angel Yan has become the new commander. Do you accept this?”
“Honestly? I don’t. She’s younger than me, and that girl doesn’t have the depth for it,” Leng replied helplessly to her master’s question.
“Who are you? It doesn’t matter who you are, you’re not qualified to oppose Queen Kaisha’s appointed successor,” Yitian retorted, dissatisfied with the elder angel’s words.
Just as Ruoning was about to respond, a black-armored figure landed on the rooftop, right in the midst of the angels.
“Well, so many people here. Quite lively. What are you discussing?” Yunyang asked, surveying the crowd.
“Who are you? A black-armored warrior from Earth?” Ruoning questioned, seeing the newcomer.
Yunyang didn’t rush to answer. He circled Ruoning, then addressed Angel Qingxue solemnly, “This woman, with her heavy makeup, doesn’t look like a good person. Stay away from her.”
