Chapter Twenty-Four: The Method of Using the Dragon Gall Spear

Just yesterday, accompanying the troops, Ge Xiaolun encountered Zhao Xin and an angel. Zhao Xin claimed that was his wife, which left Ge Xiaolun feeling a bit choked by the public display of affection. Perhaps it was destiny; almost simultaneously, the group active near Luoyang led by Ge Xiaolun, and the group making waves in the Qilu region led by Yun Yang, both came under attack from the Gluttonous.

Let’s set aside Ge Xiaolun’s situation for now. On Yun Yang’s front, this time the Gluttonous legion deployed battleships and attack aircraft—gone were the single-pilot flying machines. The Gluttonous had clearly plotted this for some time; upon contact, they unleashed a wave of carpet bombing. Although Yun Yang had connected all the warriors in time, the losses were still severe.

Commander Li issued his orders with great urgency. Thanks to Yun Yang’s enhancements to their weapons, neither side had a range advantage.

Because of the low-altitude flight, the tanks on the Huaxia side could also target the aerial Gluttonous attack aircraft. The tank formation spread out, infantry following behind in a loose array. After three minutes of fierce bombardment, the Huaxia side suffered heavy losses: seventeen tanks destroyed. In contrast, the Gluttonous lost four attack aircraft.

Although the tanks’ firepower and range had improved, their fire control systems remained unchanged. Hitting the Gluttonous attack aircraft required manual aim; the fire control system was only auxiliary. Meanwhile, the Gluttonous attack aircraft were far more advanced technologically, with far superior fire control.

That was why the Huaxia military suffered such heavy losses.

Apart from protecting his comrades in the first wave, Yun Yang paid little attention to the ground battle. Instead, he led the angel Qingxue in an assault on the Gluttonous battleship.

They traversed the dense web of fire, and the two of them, after some close calls, landed on the battleship’s armor. Yun Yang was now faced with a dilemma: his teleportation could only take himself into the battleship, leaving the angel Qingxue exposed outside, which he felt uneasy about.

Perhaps noticing Yun Yang’s concern, the angel Qingxue said, “Don’t worry about me, just go in. I’m a high-ranking angel. These interstellar ships are nothing to me.”

With her reassurance, Yun Yang hesitated no longer. With a single teleport, he entered the battleship’s command center. He had just stabbed a Gluttonous operator to death when a massive blue-and-white mech rose to its feet.

This mech was a Void Warrior, blessed by Death God Karl. Seeing a superhuman from Earth invade his battleship and kill an operator before he could react was deeply humiliating. Ever since receiving Karl’s boon, he’d looked down on superhumans, believing their strength insignificant before his Void Engine, convinced he could rewrite their genes and render them powerless.

He saw himself as capable of toying with these superhumans or even gods, picking them off one by one like chicks, so long as he could analyze their genetic code—then he would be invincible.

Without a word, the Void Warrior drew a futuristic Void Greatsword and swung at Yun Yang. Yun Yang, already alert to the mech’s movement, easily parried the attack. Sensing the force behind the blow, he found it wasn’t even stronger than his own, and so he relaxed.

With a leap, he disengaged, continuing to cut down the remaining operators. Seeing Yun Yang ignore his attacks only incensed the Void Warrior further, already contemptuous of these superhumans. Realizing his own strength might not match this opponent’s, he abandoned close combat and activated his Void Engine.

In just these few exchanges, Yun Yang had already finished off the operators. Seeing all his subordinates lifeless, the Void Warrior let loose, altering the gravity of the entire command room.

Just as Yun Yang had finished off the last operator, he felt an inexplicable force envelop his body, as if he were stuck in a mire. Noting the light flickering in the mech’s eyes, he realized this was the culprit’s doing.

Considering the mech’s strange abilities, Yun Yang decided close combat wasn’t wise. He raised his Dragon Gall Spear, gave a slight flick of his arm, and hurled it.

Thanks to the spear’s unique ability, once it marked a target, the tip burst with crackling electricity. In a flash, a streak of light ripped through the air, striking the massive mech. The tip, wreathed in blue light, erupted. The godslaying power within surged into the Void Engine. Three seconds later, a muffled boom sounded from within the mech, followed by the clatter of parts spilling across the floor.

Ordinary godslaying power could hardly cause such devastation—piercing a hole wouldn’t shatter a finely built mech. But Yun Yang had enhanced the Dragon Gall Spear’s godslaying power: it now targeted gene engines, devastating any body equipped with one.

Originally, this attack method would only strike a living body, inflicting severe internal injuries—damage that could only be repaired by restoring the gene engine itself. Without outside intervention, death was inevitable.

But these mechs, as sentient machines, had no organs; their limbs and heads were simply attached to the core engine. With the Void Engine destroyed and energy lost, it was only natural for the mech to fall apart.

The Gluttonous differed from the giant wolves. After searching for nearly five minutes, Yun Yang couldn’t find a self-destruct switch—troublesome indeed. One man couldn’t destroy a battleship of this size. If left alone, the Gluttonous might simply reclaim and refit it; even if Yun Yang thoroughly wrecked the command center, a spacefaring civilization like theirs could repair it in no time.

After demolishing the command center, Yun Yang stepped outside and immediately spotted the angel Qingxue beset by attack aircraft. He couldn’t fly, and so could only gesture for Qingxue to join him, signaling to fight together.

Angel Qingxue understood, her wings flaring as she landed atop the battleship armor. The Gluttonous, realizing something was afoot on their ship, ignored the battleship’s fate and opened fire on the two atop it.

To them, trading a battleship for an angel and a superhuman was more than worth it. As for the soldiers inside, failing to protect their commander, surviving would be more shameful than dying.

So, under the concentrated fire of the Gluttonous attack craft for a full minute, the greatest enemy ship became engulfed in flames and slowly plummeted from the sky.

Witnessing the enemy’s largest vessel destroyed by their own hands, the Huaxia warriors immediately deduced that their superhuman and angel had accomplished something extraordinary.

Their morale soared, charging with renewed vigor. Old Li, issuing orders from the command center, clapped his hands in excitement upon hearing the report, declaring both should be commended for distinguished service.

Though the battleship was destroyed, the Gluttonous showed no sign of retreat. Determined to wipe out the Huaxia troops, their attacks grew even more frenzied, resulting in even greater casualties for Huaxia.

Old Li, upon hearing the updates, cursed in frustration and then decided, “If these alien bastards want us dead, we won’t let them have it easy. Forget logistics—shoot them all down!”

With both sides bent on annihilation, the sky became a hellscape of even denser artillery fire. Sometimes, two shells even collided midair, detonating spectacularly.

Although the battleship had been destroyed, Yun Yang and Angel Qingxue escaped with only minor injuries.

As a high-ranking angel, Qingxue’s combat instincts were razor-sharp. The moment the Gluttonous attack craft turned their guns, she grabbed Yun Yang and, under the cover of smoke and fire, swiftly retreated to a distant hill, avoiding direct confrontation—after all, even an elephant can be felled by enough ants.

While Yun Yang was still dazed, Qingxue deposited him atop a remote hillside, away from the battlefield.

Coming to his senses, Yun Yang saw Qingxue’s face, smudged like a little cat’s, and burst out laughing. But as a true warrior, Qingxue remained serious, ignoring his laughter.

After a few chuckles, noticing Qingxue’s solemn expression, Yun Yang felt somewhat embarrassed. To cover it, he said, “We’re still in battle—we need to get back and help!” and leapt down the mountainside.

He rushed back to the front, raised the Dragon Gall Spear, and marked a circling Gluttonous attack craft—astonished to find it could indeed be marked. With another gentle toss, the spear became a streak of light, hurtling out.

He’d always thought he could only mark living beings, but thanks to the earlier mech incident, Yun Yang realized mechanical constructs could be marked as well. This was delightful: a melee weapon that doubled as a ranged, inescapable skill. From now on, he could proudly declare, “Let me handle that ship!”

Thirty seconds later, the Dragon Gall Spear returned to his hand. The marked Gluttonous attack craft had already blossomed into a brilliant firework in the sky—apparently the engine had been struck.

Although the spear’s homing ability required little energy, the godslaying engine consumed power with each use, and the stronger the target’s gene engine, the more energy was required. For mechanical constructs without a gene engine, only a minimum charge was needed. Sensing the power expended to destroy that attack craft, Yun Yang felt an urge to shout, “I could take on thirty more!”
