A few of his men opened the gates of the villa.

Only Peak Yang and Southward Gu went in; that had been their plan from the start.

In battle, quality mattered more than numbers.

Gu alone would be enough.

If the underlings came along, they would only cause unnecessary casualties.

As soon as they stepped inside, someone came forward to search them.

When those men drew near, Southward Gu keenly sensed the inner force radiating from their bodies.

So they were trained fighters after all.

No wonder Peak Yang’s men had been beaten back again and again. How could ordinary people stand a chance?

When had Peak Yang ever been searched before?

"Damn it..."

He was about to erupt when Southward Gu held him back.

Peak Yang was only an ordinary man; if he forced a fight with martial artists, he would surely suffer.

"Let him search you," Southward Gu said.

The man took Peak Yang’s pistol.

Then he found Southward Gu’s sword hilt.

He carried it to the one-eyed man.

The one-eyed man lounged on the sofa, swirling red wine in hand, looking utterly at ease.

On his own turf, with all weapons already confiscated, he let his guard slip.

He picked up the sword hilt, waved it around carelessly a couple of times, then tossed it onto the table with a sneer.

"Hahaha. Peak, have you gone so broke you can’t even afford a real weapon? You had to bring some lackey carrying this busted sword hilt to make up the numbers?"

He had mistaken Southward Gu for one of Peak Yang’s underlings.

His words drew a burst of laughter all around.

Peak Yang gave a cold smile. "Broke? Even if I were, I wouldn’t be so broke that I’d have to steal someone else’s territory."

"Haha. You came here alone just to trade insults with me?" The one-eyed man was certain he had already won.

Peak Yang showed no fear. He pointed at him and barked, "You son of a bitch, you hurt so many of my brothers. I’m here today to settle accounts with you."

"Settle accounts? Fine. I’d like to see how you do it."

Leaning back on the sofa, he lifted a hand.

One of his men came over.

"Go bring me a girl."

Peak Yang’s eyes turned dark with killing intent. "You’re here to take territory. There’s no need to lay hands on my people."

"Peak, you can’t even keep your underground throne. If I touch one of your employees, what can you do about it?"

His voice dripped with mockery.

The men around him joined in jeering.

A girl was dragged over by force and thrown onto the sofa.

She looked at Peak Yang in terror and cried for help. "Save me! Boss, please save me!"

Seeing this, the one-eyed man grew even more smug.

He reached out and groped the girl’s chest. The full, firm feel of it drew an obscene laugh from him.

"Well now, damn, she’s pretty young and tender. I’m taking you right now."

He made no attempt to hide his intentions.

Right there in front of everyone, he began ripping at the girl’s clothes.

Peak Yang could hold himself back no longer. He lunged forward several steps, trying to rush in and save her.

The one-eyed man reacted swiftly.

With a flick of his hand, the wineglass in his grasp shot straight toward Peak Yang.

He was a martial artist too!

It looked as though Peak Yang would be too slow to evade it and would be smashed open-head.

Southward Gu flipped his palm and shoved hard at the incoming glass.

A fierce current of air, like an invisible wall, blocked its path.

The glass collided with the force of the air.

It shattered in midair with a sharp crack, scattering into countless fragments across the floor.

The one remaining eye in the one-eyed man’s face fixed sharply on Southward Gu.

"So you’re a martial artist too. Forgive my rudeness."

He had thought Southward Gu was merely Peak Yang’s underling.

He let go of the girl and waved his hand. His men closed in at once, surrounding Southward Gu and Peak Yang layer after layer.

There were at least a dozen martial artists in the room.

Their fighting strength was equal to that of a hundred ordinary thugs.

"Attack one by one and wear them down," the one-eyed man ordered in a cold voice, planning to use sheer numbers to drag Southward Gu into a war of attrition.

Southward Gu did not give them that chance.

One of the men rushed up and threw a punch at him.

Southward Gu used the Giant Origin Palm and wrapped his hand around the man’s fist.

Then he twisted.

"Aaaah!"

The man cried out miserably as he staggered backward. His fist had been torn off at the wrist. Blood gushed from the severed joint, a horrifying sight.

"Holy hell!"

The one-eyed man could not help exclaiming when he saw it.

He had never imagined Southward Gu’s strength was so terrifying, crippling a martial artist in one move.

Excited, he sprang to his feet and shouted in a rough, cracked voice, "All of you, kill them together!"

Suddenly, a figure appeared in the air.

Golden light blazed all over that man, as if a deity had descended into the mortal realm.

Everyone stopped and raised a hand to shield their eyes.

Soon, the golden radiance faded into a thin, pale mist.

Only then could they make out the man’s true form.

He wore ancient armor, his features stern, his eyes blazing like torches. In his hand was a longsword, its blade flashing with cold light.

Aside from Southward Gu, everyone else stared in stunned disbelief.

"General Han, attack!" Southward Gu ordered.

General Han moved in an instant. His swordplay was vicious beyond measure, swift as lightning.

Within seconds, he had already flashed past the men.

Streams of blood burst into the air, splattering the entire hall.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.

The men stared down in disbelief at their wounded bodies.

At first, the wounds only felt numb.

Then the pain hit hard. In mere seconds, they were writhing on the floor, howling in agony.

They knew they would not survive.

"Brother, you’re incredible! General, you’re incredible!" Peak Yang had originally thought General Han was on the other side, but he had never expected him to be Southward Gu’s ally.

He gave a thumbs-up and praised him loudly. "A true divine soldier descended from the heavens!"

Only the one-eyed man remained.

General Han raised his sword and stabbed viciously at him.

"General Han, spare his life!" Southward Gu shouted urgently.

They still needed to interrogate him; he could not be allowed to die so easily.

General Han gave a slight flick of the wrist, and the sword wind shifted instantly. Then he withdrew the longsword.

And slowly, he vanished.

Terrified, the one-eyed man rolled off the sofa and hit the floor.

Peak Yang strode forward, planted a foot on his chest, and pressed the pistol against his forehead.

"You bastard, weren’t you acting all high and mighty just now?"

The one-eyed man gritted his teeth. "Peak, I’m warning you, don’t lay a hand on me. My backer is someone from the legitimate world you can’t afford to offend."

The threat was clear enough.

No matter how powerful the king of the underworld might be, he was still from the gray side of the law. Unless absolutely necessary, there was no need to throw down with people from the official world.

Peak Yang froze for a second.

The one-eyed man felt he had hit the mark.

"Do you know what will happen if you kill me? The people behind me will make your whole family disappear! Hahaha!"

He laughed smugly, certain that Peak Yang did not dare fire.

Bang!

Peak Yang fired without hesitation.

The one-eyed man’s head exploded, and he died on the spot.

"You damn fool, too much useless talking!" Peak Yang cursed.

Of the men lying on the ground, some were still alive, and in their eyes burned only the will to survive.

"Peak... please, don’t kill me!"

One of them begged, "We’re from the Jia clan in the provincial capital. If you kill us, the Jia family will definitely come for revenge."

"The Jia family?"

"The family from the provincial capital?"

Peak Yang frowned.

Seeing his hesitation, the man hurried on.

"Yes! The one-eyed man was sent here by the Jia family. You’re the underground king of Jiangning City. If he wanted to establish himself here, the first person he had to take down was you."

"The Jia family is that powerful in the provincial capital, so why target a tiny place like Jiangning City?"

The Jia family was first among the four great houses of the provincial capital.

The head of the Jia family was the kind of figure who could cover the sky with one hand.

He acted arrogantly, and everyone privately called him the old ancestor, the ancestral lord of the provincial capital.

Desperate to live, the man confessed everything.

"Peak, maybe you haven’t heard, but Jiangning City is slated to become an economic development zone in the near future."

"There will be a flood of investment here, and plenty of major projects. As long as they monopolize even one of them, the profits will be enormous."

"The Jia family got wind of it early, so they moved in first to seize territory."
