Chapter 113: The Undead Legion
Shunsuke Otsuka and Tanaka were forcibly brought over.
As they walked along, the two witnessed with their own eyes the horrific deaths of their subordinates.
The deaths were bizarre and varied in their cruelty.
The air was thick with the heavy scent of rust.
It was the smell of fresh blood.
Gu Xiangnan strode forward and kicked Tanaka hard.
Fueled by hatred, Gu Xiangnan showed no mercy; with full force, he shattered Tanaka’s leg with a single blow.
“Ah~!” Tanaka howled in pain and fainted.
This was Shunsuke Otsuka’s first time seeing Gu Xiangnan, yet he was already very familiar with him.
He had issued countless orders to assassinate Gu Xiangnan.
Now, facing Gu Xiangnan’s nearly bloodthirsty gaze, his body trembled uncontrollably.
It was utterly humiliating.
He tried to suppress the shaking of his body but to no avail.
This was a fear that stemmed from deep within his soul.
Even his teeth rattled incessantly, clattering with a chattering sound.
Gu Xiangnan lowered his eyes and looked at him.
“Was it you who sent Akira Ashiya to steal the snuff bottle?” Gu Xiangnan asked.
Otsuka’s legs weakened instantly, and he fell to his knees.
He wanted to beg for mercy, but the fear made his teeth chatter so violently he couldn’t speak.
All he could do was kowtow desperately.
Soon, blood seeped from his forehead, but he dared not stop.
“If you hadn’t called Akira Ashiya here, Guan Hu wouldn’t have almost died.”
“By all rights, I should have crushed you with one palm.”
Hearing this, Otsuka’s heart turned cold; his hands went numb with fear.
“But... I’m willing to give you a chance.”
Otsuka suddenly lifted his head.
His bloodied face broke into a look of joy as he crawled to Gu Xiangnan’s feet.
Han Fei cast a puzzled glance at Gu Xiangnan.
Otsuka hastily nodded vigorously: “Mr. Gu, whatever you ask, just say it.”
“As long as it’s within my power, I’ll fulfill it.”
Gu Xiangnan thought for a moment and said:
“How much money is in the company’s accounts? Transfer all of it to my account, and sign a gift contract with me.”
Otsuka didn’t hesitate in the slightest.
“Alright, consider it done right away.”
Money can be earned again, but life is irreplaceable.
He understood well which was more important.
Otsuka immediately stood, pulled out his phone, and was about to make a call.
“Wait.”
Gu Xiangnan suddenly spoke. “That’s not enough! Is your life really worth only that much?”
Otsuka’s heart raced wildly with anxiety.
Afraid Gu Xiangnan would change his mind, he quickly declared:
“Your Fusang Herbal Association has acquired a lot of Chinese medicinal herbs from our country.”
“Some of these herbs are even impossible for us to buy ourselves. Then you mark up the price and sell them back to us.”
“I heard you’ve opened many chain pharmacies in our country. I want you to transfer all those pharmacies to my name.”
“Can you do that?”
Otsuka kowtowed as if pounding rice with a mortar:
“Yes!”
Only then was Gu Xiangnan satisfied and allowed him to make the call.
Otsuka directly contacted a lawyer to draft the contract.
Gu Xiangnan only needed to wait a little longer; all the formalities would be completed soon.
Han Fei was somewhat puzzled by Gu Xiangnan’s actions.
Otsuka was their enemy, yet Gu Xiangnan was willing to spare him for mere money?
What about their military code?
What about dignity?
Gu Xiangnan was unaware of Han Fei’s thoughts.
He was inwardly delighted, already calculating how much profit this would bring.
Five minutes later, the phone in the shabby hut rang.
A paper contract for the transfer was faxed over.
Otsuka immediately signed it and stamped it with his seal.
No matter where he went, he never forgot to carry his seal.
Then, with utmost respect, he handed the contract to Gu Xiangnan.
Gu Xiangnan quickly scanned it and then put it away.
Ten minutes later, the money had already been transferred.
Otsuka smiled and asked, “Mr. Gu, may I leave now?”
Gu Xiangnan slapped him hard.
A gaping hole appeared where his heart was.
Otsuka looked down in disbelief at his chest.
Then he collapsed backward.
Gu Xiangnan looked at him coldly, as if staring at an insignificant ant.
“Do Chinese people need a reason to kill Fusang people?”
Only then did Han Fei understand.
Gu Xiangnan was still the patriotic youth, not corrupted by money.
He felt ashamed for having misjudged Gu Xiangnan and grew to respect him even more.
Gu Xiangnan called Yang Dianfeng, telling him they could come over.
Han Fei ordered the heroic spirits to clear out all the corpses from the hut.
When Yang Dianfeng and Zhang Baolian arrived, they were utterly shocked by the heap of bodies piled like a mountain.
“All the men... dead?”
Gu Xiangnan nodded.
“All dead.”
“The Fusang Herbal Association’s provincial branch has been completely wiped out!”
Zhang Baolian clicked her tongue admiringly.
“That’s ruthless! But I like it!”
“Want me to draw a seal to forever trap them here?”
Gu Xiangnan affectionately tweaked her little nose.
“Do as you wish.”
Yang Dianfeng said,
“Brother, you’re amazing! But what do we do with the remains?”
“Just throw them into the underground tunnel.”
Han Fei immediately ordered the heroic spirits to help dispose of the bodies in the tunnel.
Finally, they covered the entrance with dirt and a stone slab.
After everything was done, Han Fei faced the countless heroic spirits and loudly proclaimed:
“Comrades, your great vengeance has been avenged. If you wish to reincarnate, you may leave immediately. We shall meet no more!”
He bowed deeply.
The heroic spirits present were filled with emotion.
They had been trapped here so long they had lost all sense of time.
“If you don’t wish to reincarnate, you may choose to stay with us,” Han Fei added.
The heroic spirits began to discuss amongst themselves.
After a moment, a burly heroic spirit with a long braid stepped forward.
Though his armor was worn and mottled, it still exuded majesty.
He knelt on one knee, bowed, and said solemnly:
“General Han, we have discussed. In life, our government was weak and incompetent. The people suffered under foreign oppression. As soldiers, our hearts were filled with resentment.”
“At that time, our only dream was to defend our homeland and live honorably just once.”
“After death, we remain imprisoned here by the Fusang people. In humiliation, we have only waited patiently for the right moment.”
“Now, by fate and with your help, our great vengeance is fulfilled. Yet, we still harbor unfinished wishes.”
“We do not wish to reincarnate; we only wish to live one more life through these heroic spirits! To see whether our country is truly strong, whether it can hold its head high without suffering others’ bullying!”
As he spoke, a group of braided warriors knelt behind him.
“We are willing to stay.”
A platoon leader in green uniform stepped forward, removed his cap, revealing a shining red star.
“Comrade General, by the Yalu River, we gave our lives for the nation. We will never allow anyone to destroy the happiness we bought with sacrifice!”
Nearby, an officer in blue uniform tugged proudly at the “New Fourth Army” badge on his sleeve.
“When it comes to fighting the invaders, we’re the experts!”
Both saluted in unison,
“I am willing to follow General Han and obey Mr. Gu’s command!”
Their comrades behind them echoed their sentiments.
Other heroic spirits voiced their agreement:
“I am willing too!”
“Count me in!”
“We all want to stay!”
Han Fei was deeply moved.
In his previous life, he was betrayed by traitors, his ambitions unfulfilled, leaving regrets behind.
Now, in another world, he had the chance to rise again.
To rebuild the army with like-minded souls and once more serve this land.
He was no longer a lone warrior.
With his thoughts racing, he declared resolutely:
“Thank you all for your trust. I, Han Fei, will not disappoint your expectations!”
“From today forward, the Undead Legion is established!”
Yang Dianfeng, moved deeply, applauded enthusiastically.
“Excellent!”
“I finally understand the meaning of that poem.”
“Born to be a hero among men, dead to be a ghostly champion.”
Han Fei approached Gu Xiangnan and saluted solemnly.
“Mr. Gu, the Undead Legion is always at your command!”
