Chapter 3: Catching Bullets Barehanded
“Dad, it’s him! This little bastard almost destroyed your son’s future—you have to stand up for me!” Wang Ke, supported by his lackeys, wailed as he pointed a trembling finger at Gu Xiangnan, tears streaming down his face.
When Wang Jinquan saw his son bleeding from a gunshot wound near his thigh, blood soaking his pants, his expression turned dark and menacing. If that shot had ruined his son’s manhood, wouldn’t the Wang family line end with him?
Tilting his head slightly, Wang Jinquan coldly ordered one of his men, “Get my son to the hospital—now! And tell those doctors, if they can’t fix up a member of the Wang family, they’d better get ready for their hospital to be torn down!”
Once Wang Ke was taken away, Wang Jinquan’s face was black as thunder. He spoke in a chilling tone, “President Su, that kid is one of yours, isn’t he?”
At this moment, Su Hanyan had regained her usual composure. “President Wang, it was Wang Ke who tried to take advantage of me just now. That’s what started all of this. Since it began because of me, I’ll take responsibility.”
“You? Take responsibility?” Wang Jinquan snorted. “You think you can bear the consequences?” He pointed at Gu Xiangnan. “President Su, here’s your chance. Make that boy kneel before me right now!”
Clearly, he didn’t take this woman seriously—let alone the unremarkable brat standing beside her.
“Then have him break both his hands himself, and I might consider letting him off easily,” Wang Jinquan said, his eyes glinting coldly.
Su Hanyan’s heart clenched. She stepped protectively in front of Gu Xiangnan. “President Wang, why not leave room for mercy?”
“Negotiating, are we?” Wang Jinquan sneered. “Fine, since you’re so eager to protect him, I’ll grant your wish. If you’re willing to keep my son company for a month, I’ll let the boy go.”
Outrageous!
Of course Su Hanyan was unwilling, but if she refused, her junior might be doomed. She bit her lip, hesitating.
Suddenly, Gu Xiangnan strode out from behind her, gritting his teeth. “No wonder your son is such a scumbag—his father isn’t any better.”
“You little bastard, what did you say?” Wang Jinquan’s eyes bulged in rage.
“I said, your whole family is rotten to the core!” Gu Xiangnan repeated, enunciating every word so there would be no misunderstanding.
Wang Jinquan was furious. “You wretch! You’re asking to die!” He waved his hand, and a lackey drew a pistol, aiming straight at Gu Xiangnan’s head and pulling the trigger.
The bullet flew toward Gu Xiangnan’s forehead.
With a casual lift of his hand, Gu Xiangnan caught the bullet between his index and middle fingers.
Su Hanyan: ???
Wang Jinquan: ???
Everyone present: ???
“How… how is this possible?” Wang Jinquan was nearly petrified with fear. The rest of the crowd was even less able to believe what they’d just witnessed.
“My god…”
“Is this something that can happen in real life? Someone actually caught a bullet with his bare hands?” Scenes like this existed only in movies—and those were just special effects! Could anyone really do this in reality?
With a nonchalant flick, Gu Xiangnan tossed the bullet aside and walked toward Wang Jinquan.
Panic and dread rose in Wang Jinquan’s heart. He lost his composure, screaming, “All of you! Kill him—now!”
The rest of his men snapped out of their shock and drew their pistols. The other bystanders ducked for cover, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.
The first shot rang out. Gu Xiangnan tilted his head and the bullet whizzed past.
A blur flashed by—Gu Xiangnan appeared behind one of the gunmen. With a flick of his fingers, the weapon was sent flying, shattering a window before sailing outside.
In a flash, Gu Xiangnan appeared by another enemy, repeating the trick.
Disarmed, Wang Jinquan’s men were at a loss.
“Get him together! He’s not a monster!” Wang Jinquan shouted in desperation.
At once, the thugs surrounded Gu Xiangnan, more than ten of them attacking at once.
Gu Xiangnan stood at the center, spinning as he struck out in every direction. His hands moved so fast they left only afterimages.
In just a few breaths, he unleashed dozens of blows.
One after another, the men were sent flying, crashing to the ground. The pain in their shattered limbs was unbearable, and combined with the injuries from falling, they lay groaning on the floor, unable to get back up.
In the blink of an eye, only Wang Jinquan remained standing.
Gu Xiangnan walked forward, coming within two meters of him.
A wave of pure terror crashed over Wang Jinquan. His ears rang, his temples throbbed. In a panic, he pulled a pistol from his coat, his movements awkward from lack of practice.
“You forced me—now die!” he cried, pulling the trigger.
But Gu Xiangnan was faster. With a mighty clap of his hands, the gun was flattened into a sheet of metal.
Wang Jinquan collapsed onto the floor, staring up at him in terror.
Everyone around sucked in a sharp breath.
How could this be possible?
“Who… who are you?” Wang Jinquan stammered.
“Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Gu Xiangnan.” Gu Xiangnan squatted before Wang Jinquan, making him shrink back in fright.
With a mocking smile, Gu Xiangnan said, “Now, it’s my turn to give you a chance: kneel down and beg for mercy, and I’ll let you live.”
“That’s enough, Xiao Nan.”
Hearing Su Hanyan’s voice, Gu Xiangnan glanced at her, puzzled to see her brows still furrowed.
Su Hanyan had her reasons for concern. Her junior had only just come down from the mountain; he was alone in the world and didn’t need to make such powerful enemies.
Enough was enough.
Su Hanyan gently tugged Gu Xiangnan’s sleeve. “Leave the rest to me.”
Wang Jinquan struggled to his feet, threatening, “President Su, once Lord Feng hears about this, he won’t let it go.”
Only by subjecting Gu Xiangnan to the most excruciating torture would his fury be appeased.
Hearing that Lord Feng would be involved, Su Hanyan’s brow tightened.
“President Wang, I injured your men, so I’ll compensate you. But we all know the real reason behind what happened today,” she said coldly. “Even if Lord Feng hears about it, I, Su Hanyan, am in the right.”
“Fine. We’ll see about that,” Wang Jinquan retorted, though he had no other options.
With so many of his men injured, he could only call for help and have them all taken to the hospital.
Once the place was cleared, Su Hanyan could no longer restrain herself. She threw her arms around Gu Xiangnan and planted a kiss on his forehead.
Taking his hand, she looked him up and down. “Let me have a look at you—you’ve grown into a fine young man, even more handsome than before! I’ve missed you so much.”
Gu Xiangnan grinned back at her. “Senior Sister, it took me ages to find you without a proper address.”
“You must’ve had a hard time finding me, didn’t you?” Su Hanyan’s heart ached as she squeezed his hand. “From now on, we’ll be together, and I’ll look after you.”
Though they hadn’t seen each other in years, Su Hanyan’s words were sincere, and the joy in her eyes was real.
Gu Xiangnan felt a warmth in his heart and gently replied, “I’m grown up now, Senior Sister. It’s my turn to take care of you.”
Su Hanyan pinched his nose playfully, just as she had when they were children.
Soon, the three of them returned to Su Hanyan’s company.
Staring up at the towering building, Gu Xiangnan’s jaw dropped. “Wow, Senior Sister, you’re incredible! This whole building is yours?”
Seeing her junior’s stunned expression, Su Hanyan smiled radiantly. “If you like, I’ll give you one just like it.”
“No need, no need!” Gu Xiangnan waved his hands. “As long as I can live with you, Senior Sister, that’s enough.”
Hearing this, Su Hanyan froze, then suddenly blushed as if she’d just thought of something.
Yisheng Corporation’s president’s office was at the top floor, surrounded by glass walls with a panoramic view of the city.
Once inside, Su Hanyan sipped her tea and looked at Gu Xiangnan. “Xiao Nan, your fifth senior sister is already investigating your background.”
