Chapter 134: Save Him or Not?
Yang Dianfeng was puzzled. “Oh, then I’ll give him a call.”
He muttered inwardly, This is a matter of life and death. What is he still dawdling for?
He dialed Gu Xiangnan’s number and urged him anxiously, “Little brother, hurry up! Little Huang won’t hold on much longer!”
But Gu Xiangnan’s voice was cold. “Brother, I just found out that Huang Ying is a Japanese spy. I don’t want to save her anymore.”
“What did you say?” Yang Dianfeng stared wide-eyed. “You’re saying Little Huang is a spy?”
“Yes.”
“Has she ever harmed you?”
“This… I suspect now that her kidnapping was staged by herself.”
As Gu Xiangnan recalled what had happened, he noticed several suspicious details.
“Little brother, whether you save her or not is up to you. I respect your choice.”
As the Emperor of the Underworld, he knew all too well that one could not afford to be overly softhearted.
If Gu Xiangnan had decided not to save her, he must have had his reasons. Yang Dianfeng would not force him.
After hanging up, Yang Dianfeng felt rather heavy-hearted.
That honest-looking young girl who was usually so guileless was actually a lackey of the Japanese.
Yang Dianfeng’s sigh caught the attention of Su Hanyan and Zi Xiaoyin.
They assumed that Gu Xiangnan had encountered another assassination attempt and hurriedly questioned Yang Dianfeng.
Yang Dianfeng led them into the living room, where Wang Mei and Zhang Baolian joined them, and told them about his conversation with Gu Xiangnan.
Zi Xiaoyin’s mind went blank with a thunderclap.
How could this be?
Her best friend was a spy?
Could it be that all the time they had spent together had been false?
Su Hanyan struggled to remain calm. She said to Zi Xiaoyin, “Xiaoyin, calm down first. We are facing a difficult choice now. Should we save Huang Ying or not?”
Zi Xiaoyin’s thoughts were in utter turmoil. She had completely lost her sense of direction.
Wang Mei had spent many years in the military and had never shown an enemy the slightest mercy. She said decisively, “If you ask me, don’t save her! One fewer enemy means fewer problems.”
Zhang Baolian, however, shook her head repeatedly. “She and we were able to meet one another in this vast sea of humanity. That means fate brought us together! We have to save her!”
Wang Mei mocked her. “Stop with all that mystical nonsense! I believe in only one thing: showing mercy to an enemy is cruelty to yourself!”
Su Hanyan stepped in to take charge. “Stop arguing. We should ask Xiaoyin what she thinks.”
Zi Xiaoyin bit her lip.
At last, she calmed down. “Huang Ying could have ignored my mother and left. She could have walked away. She was injured this badly entirely because she was trying to save my mother.”
“We cannot deny everything she did for my mother simply because she is a spy. I cannot refuse to save her.”
Her gaze grew resolute. “We should save her. Otherwise, I’ll feel guilty for the rest of my life!”
For once, the senior sisters were in complete agreement. They all approved of her decision.
Zi Xiaoyin continued, “Please, sisters, persuade my brother. Saving her is what matters most!”
Su Hanyan immediately pulled out her phone and was about to make a call when an incoming call suddenly appeared on the screen.
It was Gu Xiangnan!
Su Hanyan answered at once. “Xiaonan, you…”
“Senior Sister, find a wooden tub and fill it with water. I’ll be there in ten minutes!”
“All right. I’ll prepare it immediately!”
Delighted smiles appeared on the faces of the sisters.
The great weight pressing on everyone’s hearts had finally been lifted.
Everyone sprang into action.
Ten minutes earlier.
Gu Xiangnan had been torn with indecision.
During his call with Yang Dianfeng, he had firmly declared that he did not want to save Huang Ying.
But after hanging up, his heart had grown even heavier.
He picked up a cigar, lit it, and took a deep drag.
Then he called out casually, “General Han.”
Han Fei appeared before him in an instant.
“Xiaonan, why did you summon me?”
Gu Xiangnan sat on the sofa without answering. He lowered his head and smoked in silence.
“Hm? What is troubling you?”
Han Fei had never seen him so full of worry before and found the sight rather novel.
Gu Xiangnan told him what had happened to Huang Ying.
At first, Han Fei frowned as well, but his expression soon relaxed.
He said heartily, “Xiaonan, in my opinion, Huang Ying must be saved!”
“She could have chosen to leave, but she chose to stay. Of course, we do not yet know her true reason for staying. But what matters is that she stayed.”
“When the mercenaries attacked, she could have chosen to help, or she could have chosen not to. But she chose to help!”
“Let’s go upstairs and take a look.”
Han Fei headed upstairs.
As if possessed, Gu Xiangnan followed behind him.
He truly had not had time to examine the scene carefully earlier.
A very distinct drag mark ran across the floor, extending from Zhang Hongmei’s room all the way into the corridor.
“Judging from these marks, your godmother’s legs must have been badly impaired, making it difficult for her to walk. Huang Ying dragged her outside to escape during the crisis,” Han Fei analyzed.
The drag marks abruptly ended at the place where the body had been found.
The wallpaper and decorative paintings there bore traces of scorching, while the ceiling had been blackened by smoke.
A large hole had been blasted through the nearby window.
“The enemy may have thrown a fireball through the window. The two of them were probably set ablaze as a result,” Han Fei continued.
He muttered to himself, “What puzzles me is why Huang Ying did not flee immediately to find water and put out the flames.”
His pupils suddenly contracted, as though an answer had just emerged.
“General Han, you mean… even after catching fire, she still refused to abandon my godmother?”
“Exactly!” Han Fei nodded.
The knot in Gu Xiangnan’s heart came undone in an instant.
“Thank you, General Han. I understand now. I’m going to save Huang Ying. We’ll talk again next time.”
Gu Xiangnan clasped his hands in farewell and hurried toward the bedroom.
He needed to bring the Divine Farmer Cauldron and all the medicinal herbs with him.
“He uses me and then runs off,” Han Fei grumbled unhappily before vanishing.
Gu Xiangnan soon arrived at Su Hanyan’s villa.
He went to the kitchen first, boiled several large packets of medicinal herbs, and poured the thick medicinal liquid into the large wooden tub Su Hanyan had prepared.
Everyone carefully lowered Huang Ying into the tub and began the medicinal bath.
Gu Xiangnan personally supervised the entire process.
Holding his phone, he said to Huang Ying, “Stay strong. You must hold on. Your mother is still waiting for you. She needs your care.”
Tears welled up in Huang Ying’s eyes.
Half an hour later, Gu Xiangnan noticed that her breathing had gradually steadied.
Zi Xiaoyin, who had been keeping watch beside her, said excitedly, “Brother, she’s getting better! That’s wonderful!”
Gu Xiangnan nodded. “Little sister, stay here and keep watch. I need to prepare more medicine. Although her condition has improved somewhat, the fire poison in her body has not been fully removed.”
“The heat has scorched her throat. She must take medicine to reduce the swelling immediately, or she may suffocate.”
Zi Xiaoyin nodded obediently. “All right. I’ll stay here and watch over her. Don’t worry, Brother.”
When Gu Xiangnan came out, everyone waiting outside gathered around him.
Gu Xiangnan told them that Huang Ying’s condition had improved.
Only then did everyone finally relax.
Gu Xiangnan found a room and took out the Divine Farmer Cauldron.
He began refining pills.
Two hours later, a batch of pills was successfully refined.
After giving Huang Ying two pills, Gu Xiangnan changed the medicinal water in the tub.
Then he went back into the small room to boil more medicine.
Gu Xiangnan stayed awake throughout the night.
“Brother, come quickly! Huang Ying, she…”
Zi Xiaoyin came rushing in, panic-stricken.
