Chapter 84: The Dark Plot, Exposed on the Spot
Wan Sifan breezed through the audition and got his green card without a hitch. Although there were jeers and shouts of “rigged” from the audience, none of it made the slightest difference to this privileged heir—who could do anything about it anyway?
As he stepped off the stage, Chen Yufeng went up. The moment they brushed past each other, Wan Sifan shot Chen Yufeng a disdainful glance, his face full of contempt:
“With that pitiful look, you think you can stand out in a talent show and change your fate?”
Chen Yufeng caught Wan Sifan’s mocking words, but paid him no mind for now and continued towards the center of the stage.
The crowd, still simmering from witnessing the arrogance of the rich kid, now seized the chance to vent their frustration on this hapless contestant who replaced him. Laughter erupted among the young men in the audience, who hurled mocking jibes:
“Hey clown, if you don’t have money, why pretend to be like those rich boys?”
“Right? Look at that ridiculous, washed-up hair, those torn jeans, that ragged backpack—trying to be trendy? More like homeless chic! The other guy has a Lamborghini, Versace clothes, Hermès belt, Cartier watch—now that’s real style.”
“Hey, don’t be so harsh. Even if he’s down and out, he was once part of the nobility.”
“So what do you think this guy’s talent will be?”
“Isn’t it obvious? Some cheap haircut act, right? Haha…”
After Chen Yufeng took the stage, the three judges followed their usual script: “Contestant, what is your name? What do you do? Are you a student or working?”
“Ahem…” Chen Yufeng cleared his throat twice, looked calmly at the judges, and replied, “I am a humble dancer—Jade Lingfeng.”
“Oh, alright then.”
The judges, uninterested in further questions, quickly moved on. Li Weidong spoke up directly: “Please begin your performance.”
“Heh.” Chen Yufeng let out a strange chuckle, shook his head, and looked at the judges with a sneer: “With your level of taste, do you really deserve to watch my performance?”
“Contestant, what do you mean by that? Mind your manners and your words.”
“What exactly is your purpose in coming here? Looking for fame, trying to stir up controversy? Sorry, you’ve come to the wrong place. Please leave the stage immediately. We do not welcome contestants with impure motives here.”
“We are professional actors and singers. If you think we’re not qualified to watch your performance, why did you come up on this stage?”
The three judges were infuriated by Chen Yufeng’s words and immediately ordered him off the stage.
But the audience’s interest was piqued. All eyes were fixed on Chen Yufeng, eager to see what he would do next.
Well, you had to admit, this guy had guts—talking to the judges like that. Let’s see how far he’ll push it. This should be good…
Chen Yufeng swept a serene gaze over the crowd, glanced at the judges, and then, brimming with confidence, declared:
“I am the unparalleled, peerless, legendary dancer Jade Lingfeng. I had planned to perform a dance so magnificent it would shake the heavens and move the spirits, to give you a visual experience like never before, to cleanse your souls with the grace of my movements, to show you what true dancing is.
I guarantee, after witnessing my dance, your standards will rise to a whole new level. From then on, you won’t be able to tolerate watching any other man dance, because you’ll realize—what those guys do, can you even call that dancing? More like prancing.
Unfortunately, thanks to the judges’ utter lack of taste, you won’t get to witness my divine skills. I truly pity you all.”
At these words, the three judges, already fuming, slammed the table in rage and scolded him harshly:
“This contestant just wants attention, trying to stir up trouble, isn’t that right?
Just look at young people these days, unwilling to work hard or improve themselves, not trying to win us over with real talent, but always seeking cheap fame.
Even if these disgraceful tactics get you noticed, it won’t last.
Without real ability, you won’t get anywhere in this business.
Did you forget to take your medication, or what?
Where does someone like you get such outrageous confidence? ‘Legendary dancer of all time’? Others don’t even count as dancers? ‘Peerless and eternal’? I think you’re the biggest clown we’ve ever seen! If you’re looking for fame, this isn’t the way. You’re just ridiculous, and you’ll get torn apart for it.
With intelligence like that, you dream of fame?”
…
“This guy is gutsy—daring to talk to the judges like that. You’ve got nerve, man—I respect that.”
“You just don’t get it. He’s desperate for fame, that’s all.”
“Idiots show up every year, but today there are more than usual.”
“He should take a good look in the mirror and see what a joke he is, pretending to be something he’s not.”
The audience had exploded—some were there for the spectacle, some admired Chen Yufeng’s audacity, but most just took the chance to roast him, seeing him as a clown without shame, seeking fame at all costs.
Chen Yufeng saw the crowd’s reaction but ignored it, turning instead to the judges with a single question:
“Let me ask you: is this talent show rigged?”
“What do you mean by that? Explain yourself. What do you mean, rigged? You can’t just say whatever you want—you know words have consequences? You want me to sue you for slander and have you arrested?”
The three judges leaped from their seats, pointing and shouting at Chen Yufeng, itching to drag him off the stage. Li Weidong, in particular, would have hurled a chair at him if not for the crowd watching.
“No rigging? Then your taste must be lacking,” Chen Yufeng replied with a smile, pointing at Wan Sifan, who was just about to get into his car. He continued to address the judges:
“If trash like that, prancing around like a circus monkey, can pass, then either the show is rigged, or your taste is abysmal. With such poor judgment, are you really qualified to witness my divine dancing?”
His words left the entire room stunned—then the place erupted again, especially among the onlookers who relished the drama.
Though they thought he was a clown, many were already disgruntled with how Wan Sifan breezed through with nothing but empty posturing. Now, with Chen Yufeng openly calling it out on stage, there was a wave of support:
“Well said, man! You’ve got guts—I respect that…”
“Exactly—there’s definitely rigging going on. I’m with you on this one…”
“He may be a clown, but he’s right. Unless the judges are blind, they must have taken gifts from that rich kid…”
