Chapter 60: You're the One Full of Schemes
Just as the wealthy young men and nouveau riche uncles at the scene were cursing under their breath but dared not step forward, a clear, spirited voice suddenly rang out. Everyone turned in the direction of the sound and saw an exceptionally beautiful, long-legged young woman. Realizing what was happening, someone immediately exclaimed, “Wow, a beauty! A heroine among women—we support you!”
“A true daughter of our nation, matching the men—well done, we’re behind you!”
“Don’t get me wrong, it’s not me.” He Meixuan flashed a dazzling, captivating smile at the crowd, then pointed at Chen Yufeng and introduced him, “It’s this handsome guy, known as the Little Prince of Billiards. He’s here to challenge Osney. Let’s give him a round of applause!”
“Oh, it’s this bumpkin.”
When they saw it was a young man dressed in cheap clothes, the rich young men and uncles lost much of their enthusiasm, though some of the women in the crowd still applauded Chen Yufeng.
Under everyone’s gaze, Chen Yufeng strode confidently up to Osney, pointed at his nose, and shouted, “Tsk tsk, you blond brat, who gave you the courage to come to China and play with such pathetic billiards skills?”
“Who are you calling pathetic?”
Osney and Tock obviously understood him and stared at him as if he were a fool.
The onlookers exploded with laughter. Now they understood—this guy wasn’t here to challenge Osney, but to make a scene.
What Little Prince of Billiards? More like Little Trash of Billiards.
Many people in the crowd had watched Chen Yufeng play against Liu Teling and He Meixuan earlier. His performance had been abysmal, like a total novice who’d only just picked up a cue.
And yet this guy had the nerve to call Osney’s skills trash?
If that wasn’t a joke, what was?
Though Osney and Tock’s behavior had been obnoxious and angered everyone, no one present doubted Osney’s legendary skills. In fact, most people there idolized him as a billiards genius.
But He Meixuan looked at Chen Yufeng with a gaze full of admiration.
Good job—keep acting arrogant, then make your escape. Ha!
Chen Yufeng paid no attention to the reactions around him. With an air of supreme arrogance, he continued to address Osney:
“Master, I say you’re trash and you won’t admit it? In that case, I’ll be magnanimous and give you a chance to challenge me. Do you dare?”
“What did you say? Give Osney a chance to challenge you?”
Hearing such audacious words, both Osney and Tock flushed with anger, itching to throw a punch.
“What a joke—an ignorant, arrogant fool,” Tock sneered, then fixed Chen Yufeng with a contemptuous glare. “Stupid Chinese, it’s Osney, the god of billiards, giving you a chance to challenge him. Understand? All you Chinese are good for is talk. You’re nothing but cowards, turtles in their shells, kings of empty boasts.”
“No, no, no. I’m the one giving Osney this chance. You should be thanking me,” Chen Yufeng replied, not even deigning to look at Tock, casting him a disdainful glance before turning his contemptuous gaze on Osney. “Normally, I wouldn’t even bother glancing at trash like you. Playing against you would be an insult to my skills. But seeing you’ve come such a long way, I feel a little sorry for you, so I’ll graciously give you a chance to challenge me. No—actually, it’s not a challenge, it’s an opportunity for you to learn from me. Do you understand?”
“You... what did you say?”
Osney got the gist—this guy was calling him trash and claiming Osney was nowhere near his level. He was so angry he was about to explode, nearly ready to swing his cue at someone.
The crowd was thoroughly amused by Chen Yufeng’s words. To them, he was obviously just provoking Osney for the fun of it.
If they really started playing, could this novice possibly beat Osney?
He’d be lucky to escape total humiliation.
As Osney’s manager, Tock felt every bit of the insult and was seething inside, but he could also see that this Chinese guy was deliberately trying to rile Osney.
Did he really have the guts to play Osney?
Tock was an old hand at this sort of thing and knew exactly how to turn the tables and embarrass the other party. He first calmed Osney down, urging him to keep his cool, then turned to Chen Yufeng with a cold, challenging smile.
“So, Chinese boy, you say your skills are amazing? Fine—come play Osney right now. Do you dare?”
Some of the bystanders, always eager for excitement, immediately joined in the clamor.
“How about this: Master Osney not only plays with his left hand, but also gives this guy a points advantage. And you two put something exciting on the line to make it fun for everyone. Don’t you all agree?”
“Yes, yes, yes! If we’re going to play, let’s make it thrilling—something worth watching!”
These two rich kids’ suggestions were immediately echoed by the crowd, with others egging them on.
Someone even shouted out a new idea: “Bet your girlfriends! If this challenger wins, each of you gives him a million. If he loses, your girlfriends have to kiss each of us!”
“Damn, that’s exciting! Let’s do it—come on, guys!”
The proposal was met with overwhelming approval. The crowd, made up of wealthy heirs and nouveau riche, had come to this upscale club precisely for excitement and amusement.
Of course they’d encourage such a ruckus.
He Meixuan and Liu Teling understood Chen Yufeng’s intentions—he was just showing off and putting Tock and the others in their place. He’d never actually play for real.
Now that he’d achieved his goal, it was time to make a graceful exit. So He Meixuan quickly leaned in and whispered in Chen Yufeng’s ear, “Hey, little apprentice, you certainly showed off enough! You’ve vented your anger, had your fun—now let’s get out of here. Quick, let’s go!”
“Hey, what’s the rush?”
But Chen Yufeng showed no intention of leaving. He smiled at He Meixuan and said, “Why don’t we play a little longer? What’s the hurry?”
“Play what? They think I’m your girlfriend, and you want to agree to such a crazy bet? With your skills, Osney will annihilate you!”
He Meixuan was clearly unwilling—she didn’t want to be forced into kissing anyone.
“What’s there to be afraid of? With all my abilities, you think I’d let anyone take advantage of you?”
“There are a lot of people—you think you can handle them all?”
He Meixuan was skeptical. No matter how good his fighting skills were, he couldn’t take on so many people at once.
“Numbers mean nothing—all these spoiled rich kids, I could kick down a bunch of them at once. Besides, isn’t there a policewoman here? What’s there to be afraid of?”
“Uh...” He Meixuan still wasn’t convinced.
Chen Yufeng looked at her and at Liu Teling, then chuckled, “Or how about this: we play Osney, and even if we can’t win, we’ll smash a few balls at those two blond idiots, then make our escape. With my skills, do you really think I can’t get you out of here safely?”
“You and your crazy schemes.” Liu Teling rolled her eyes at him, utterly exasperated.
