Chapter 95: Shen Yan’s Humorous Side
Thinking about how Ye Yaoyao must have endured such hardships within the Ye family over the years, and how every time she met with the two Ye brothers she was forced into such close intimacy with them, Shen Yan felt as if he wanted to kill someone.
But he couldn’t.
For Ye Yaoyao’s sake, he had no choice but to endure.
“So now you care about her? Where were you before?” Ye Qian said with a mocking smile.
“When she loved you before, what did you do?” Shen Yan snapped.
“Shen Yan, you’re the last person on earth qualified to lecture me!” The tension between them thickened instantly.
Bang!
Shen Yan slammed the object onto the floor. “Eat it if you want.” With that, he turned and left.
Ye Qian was right. The person who hurt Ye Yaoyao the most in the past was none other than him.
When she threw herself at him with all her passion, he failed to cherish the opportunity.
He had no right to blame Ye Qian.
Shen Yan was furious!
So furious that he pounded the wall several times, ending up injuring his hand, which he roughly bandaged.
…
Time flew by, and a week passed in the blink of an eye.
With Ye Yaoyao covertly sabotaging him, there was no way Shen Sheng could survive this crisis.
His downfall was inevitable.
Without a steady leader, Shen Corporation was leaderless, and naturally, Shen Yan would be pushed back to the forefront.
But Shen Yan was a man with pride; he wouldn’t be at others’ beck and call.
Convincing Shen Yan to return was a major headache for the shareholders.
Every day Shen Yan delayed his return, Shen Corporation suffered losses.
He could afford to wait.
They could not.
In these days, Ye Yaoyao’s apartment was unusually lively.
Every time she returned, she would see someone chatting with Shen Yan.
Shen Yan sat on the sofa with a cold expression. A middle-aged man with graying hair smiled obsequiously, “Ah Yan, it’s under your leadership that Shen Corporation has reached this height step by step. Can you bear to watch it be destroyed?”
Good grief, a classic case of moral coercion, which made Ye Yaoyao roll her eyes.
She tried to keep a low profile, but Shen Yan would immediately come over whenever he saw her.
Ye Yaoyao really didn’t want to be used as a distraction, but there was no escape.
Shen Yan’s voice was gentle, his eyes full of an undefinable depth of feeling.
“You’re back? Dinner’s all warmed up. Just eat.”
Ye Yaoyao nodded, glanced at the middle-aged man, and noticing the hostility in his eyes, shot back with sharp retaliation.
“You help me get it, please,” she said, steering Shen Yan aside.
“Alright.”
As expected, the man’s gaze grew even harsher.
Ye Yaoyao knew the shareholders didn’t think highly of her.
When she was Shen Yan’s secretary, she had fought tooth and nail to bring projects to the company, but they never saw a trace of her efforts. Instead, they thought she was blocking Shen Corporation’s progress.
Everyone believed that if Shen Yan was with Qin Miao, with the Qin family’s support, the company would soar to new heights.
Ha! How laughable.
A bunch of shallow fools who only saw the surface, blind to the true struggles beneath.
Shen Yan went to the kitchen to prepare the meal, leaving only the two of them in the living room.
“Ye Yaoyao? I never thought you were so capable. With all that noise online, you still manage to stay by Shen Yan’s side!” Wu Pidong sneered, looking down on her with supreme arrogance. “What, your only skill in life is using your body?”
“It’s your eyes that see nothing else,” Ye Yaoyao sighed, speaking with bitter disappointment. “What else do you see besides money?”
“Before, we thought Shen Sheng was capable, so we climbed aboard eagerly. Now that we see Shen Yan’s stronger, we crawl back to lick his boots. Who can stand your scheming?” she cut them down without mercy.
Wu Pidong was so angry he stood up, raising his hand to slap her.
Ye Yaoyao remained standing calmly. “If you hit me, you won’t be able to afford the medical bills.”
His henchmen were caught in a dilemma.
Ye Yaoyao crossed her arms, leaning lazily against the wall, waiting for Wu Pidong’s next move.
At that moment, Shen Yan walked out of the kitchen with the meal.
Seeing the scene before him, he glared at Wu Pidong coldly.
“Is this how a major shareholder begs for favors? Coming into someone’s home and attacking their family?”
“Looks like I’ll only return under certain conditions.”
Wu Pidong’s face twisted awkwardly. He shot a furious glance at Ye Yaoyao, but considering Shen Yan’s importance to Shen Corporation, he forced a smile.
“Ah Yan, women are like clothes; if you want to change, there are plenty of options. No need to ruin harmony over one woman.”
“Women are like clothes? Then you must have been naked for a long time,” Shen Yan snapped icily. “Go back and tell everyone, if you want me to return, Wu Pidong, you have to get kicked out of the shareholders’ meeting.”
Hearing this, warmth surged in Ye Yaoyao’s heart.
Shen Yan was finally not the ungrateful wretch he once was.
Her care for him hadn’t been in vain!
“What?” Wu Pidong narrowed his eyes in disbelief, unable to keep up the pretense. “You’d kick me out of the shareholders’ meeting for her? Are you insane?”
“I may not have earned great merits at Shen Corporation these years, but I’ve paid my dues! What has Ye Yaoyao done?”
He laughed bitterly, then stared coldly at Ye Yaoyao.
“I don’t know what kind of curse that shameless woman put on you to make you care for her so blindly!”
Smack!
Before Wu Pidong could finish, Shen Yan’s slap landed.
The sudden strike stunned everyone, including Ye Yaoyao.
She had expected Shen Yan to defend her, but not to lay a hand on someone.
Wu Pidong opened his mouth but no sound came out.
He couldn’t believe what had just happened.
Shen Yan had actually hit him for that woman?
“Shen Yan, you—”
Shen Yan’s face was as dark as coal, teetering on the edge of eruption.
“Get out. Right now. Or it won’t be just about kicking you out of the shareholders’ meeting!”
Wu Pidong glared furiously, but in the end, he vented all his anger in a hateful glance at Ye Yaoyao.
Well, Ye Yaoyao understood—she was once again the scapegoat.
Forget it. The world is vast, but eating comes first.
She was truly hungry, so she walked to the table and sat down, Shen Yan following closely.
He served her soup and quietly watched her eat.
Feeling his gaze, Ye Yaoyao grew uncomfortable and awkwardly asked, “Have you eaten?”
“Yes.”
“Oh… then you should get back to your work.”
“My daily job now is dealing with shareholder harassment. That’s all,” Shen Yan replied honestly.
Hearing this, Ye Yaoyao couldn’t help but laugh.
She hadn’t expected Shen Yan to have such a humorous side.
Shen Yan looked at her puzzled. “What’s funny?”
“Nothing.”
