Chapter 94: Don't Go to Yaoyao for Everything
Shen Yan's sudden show of concern made Ye Yaoyao's scalp crawl.
When an abnormal person returns to normal, that in itself is abnormal.
Ye Yaoyao headed to the hospital. At the door of the ward, she overheard Ye Qian on the phone with someone.
"You can't even find this out? What are you people good for? Weren't the Ye family at the top of this field before? Where's your competence!"
Ye Qian growled, his voice dripping with cold fury. "I'll give you one more day. If you still can't find it, don't bother coming back."
Ye Yaoyao stood at the door for a while, then pushed it open once the timing felt right.
Seeing who it was, Ye Qian dropped the icy expression and walked toward her. "Yaoyao came to see me."
"If I don't look after you, who will?"
Ye Yaoyao opened the insulated lunchbox, and the scent of fresh food spread through the ward.
Shen Yan had a gift like that—anything he set his mind to, he could accomplish.
"It's still my little sister who cares about me, worries for me." Ye Qian gazed at her tenderly, his eyes full of gratification.
But the very next second, Ye Yaoyao's words wiped that gratification clean off his face.
"It's not worry. It's that I think you're truly pitiful, Second Brother. If I didn't look after you, nobody would."
With that, Ye Yaoyao flashed a harmless, innocent smile. "Second Brother, you're injured—stop worrying about so much. Eat up."
"You've made me angry, so your punishment is to feed me." Ye Qian shot her a glare.
"Fine by me." Ye Yaoyao didn't mind at all.
Just as she was about to lift the spoon, a large hand snatched it away.
The next second, Ye Yaoyao was lifted from her seat. She turned her head and saw Shen Yan's face.
When had this man followed her?
Shen Yan sat down in her spot and began feeding Ye Qian.
The scene was bizarre no matter how you looked at it.
"Shen Yan, why are you here?" Ye Yaoyao asked.
"You're already exhausted from work. Leave the caregiving to me—I happen to be free at home lately." Shen Yan said it as casually as a passing breeze.
After Ye Yaoyao left, Shen Yan couldn't stop himself from following.
Every time he thought about how he had delivered this woman into the tiger's mouth, he trembled with rage.
But the debt of upbringing outweighed everything. It was because of the Ye family that Ye Yaoyao had been able to study abroad. Her ties to the Ye family could never be severed.
After much deliberation, Shen Yan had settled on this solution:
He would take her place and care for Ye Qian.
It was treating the symptom, not the cause, but it was better than nothing.
When Shen Yan said this, Ye Yaoyao and Ye Qian instinctively glanced at each other.
What had gotten into him?
Shen Yan certainly wouldn't seek the Ye family's support through such means.
He had his own plans for everything.
Besides, the Shen Corporation's situation was in his favor, so there was no need for such redundancy.
Unbidden, Ye Yaoyao thought of Feng Yuqi's words.
What exactly was this man scheming?
Neither of the Ye brothers liked Shen Yan, so they naturally wouldn't accept his care.
Ye Yaoyao shook her head and was about to refuse. "No need, I'll do it myself. You—"
But before she could finish, Ye Qian cut her off.
"Fine. I also think Yaoyao's been working too hard lately. It's a good idea to have someone else look after me."
A smile curled at the corner of Ye Qian's lips, a flicker of calculation passing through his eyes.
If Shen Yan was walking right into their hands, why would they let the chance slip by?
Ye Yaoyao looked at him, confused, but Ye Qian only gave her a reassuring glance.
Well then—if Second Brother had his own plans, Ye Yaoyao wouldn't interfere.
Ye Qian was a man who knew his limits. Ye Yaoyao nodded in acceptance.
"Alright then. I'll leave it to you from here, Mr. Shen."
Ye Yaoyao picked up her bag. "I'll go home and rest now."
She hadn't even left yet when she already sensed the strangeness thickening in the air of the ward.
...
"Are you even qualified to take care of me?" Ye Qian mocked.
"Anything Ye Yaoyao can do, I can do."
"Is that so?"
Ye Qian swept a glance over him and gave a contemptuous smile. "I think you're not as good as Yaoyao."
Ye Yaoyao's abilities were far more impressive than anyone imagined.
Though information was scarce, Ye Qian had still managed to dig up a few things.
This little sister of theirs was no simple character.
However, those words took on a different meaning in Shen Yan's ears.
He felt that Ye Qian was hinting at *that* kind of thing.
Bastard!
The veins on Shen Yan's hand holding the bowl bulged as he nearly smashed it over Ye Qian's head.
"Eat." Shen Yan tried to shut Ye Qian up with food.
Ye Qian took a bite and generously praised Ye Yaoyao: "Yaoyao's cooking really is something. Delicious."
Shen Yan couldn't be bothered to call him out on it.
After the meal, Shen Yan packed up the lunchbox. Ye Qian watched him.
"You've got nothing to do now. Go wash the lunchbox. There's dish soap in the bathroom."
Shen Yan said nothing, picked up the lunchbox, and trudged toward the bathroom in silence.
When he came out, he had barely sat down before Ye Qian ordered him to do something else.
"Peel me an apple."
Shen Yan did it without a word.
It really was his first time peeling an apple. The peel broke again and again, and by the time he finished, only a sliver of flesh remained.
Seeing that, Ye Qian laughed outright. "President Shen, is this the extent of your skill? That's not how you take care of someone. Yaoyao peels apples like a pro!"
If he couldn't even peel an apple, Ye Qian had no idea how Shen Yan managed to win Ye Yaoyao's favor.
All looks, no substance!
Shen Yan's competitive streak was ignited. He shoved the apple into Ye Qian's mouth and picked up another one to peel.
You want me to peel apples?
Fine!
Shen Yan kept practicing, determined to produce a perfect apple.
Ye Qian, meanwhile, kept eating. Eventually he was stuffed, but Shen Yan kept peeling.
The two of them were locked in a battle of stubbornness. If the apples hadn't run out, Ye Qian would have burst from overeating.
"Average technique. Needs more practice."
Ye Qian barely managed to choke down the last apple and struggled to lie back on the bed. "Don't forget to bring me breakfast tomorrow morning! Made by you!"
No matter how bad it tasted, Ye Qian would accept it.
The point was to torment Shen Yan.
Shen Yan didn't even acknowledge him. He just turned and left.
When he got home, Ye Yaoyao was already fast asleep in bed, snoring softly.
Shen Yan walked to the bedside and watched her for a long while. Only then did he shower, wash up, and climb into bed, holding her as he fell into a deep, restful sleep.
After Ye Yaoyao left for work, Shen Yan was woken by Ye Qian's phone call.
"Shen Yan, where's my breakfast?"
With Ye Yaoyao absent, Shen Yan didn't mince words with Ye Qian. "What's this? Have the Ye family stripped you of all power because you're a complete failure at everything? Can't even manage to get yourself breakfast?"
"Shen Yan, is this how you keep your promise? Don't forget—last night you agreed in front of Yaoyao to take care of me."
Ye Qian's tone shifted. "In that case, I'll just have to tell Yaoyao exactly how things went."
With that, he made to hang up.
Shen Yan's strained voice came through the receiver. "Don't be so hasty. I'll be there soon."
He certainly wasn't going to cook himself.
Ye Qian didn't deserve food made by his hands.
Shen Yan casually bought some soy milk and fried dough sticks on the street and tossed them in front of Ye Qian. "Eat."
"This is the breakfast you prepared?"
Ye Qian pulled out his phone. "I'll take a picture and show Yaoyao."
Shen Yan snatched the phone from his hand. "Ye Qian, don't go running to Yaoyao with every little thing. She's exhausted."
