The shameless man had actually come out without a stitch on?

Had he forgotten that this was her home, and that she was standing right here, very much alive?

Faced with her accusation, Shen Yan looked utterly unconcerned. He walked to the bedside and even lifted a hand to rake his wet hair back. A few droplets splashed onto Ye Yaoyao, and she grabbed a pillow and hurled it at him without hesitation. It struck him squarely where it counted.

Shen Yan glanced at her. “What is it? You’ve got a problem with it?”

Ye Yaoyao’s face flushed at once. “Shen Yan, do you have any shame at all? Even if you’re no longer the chairman of the Shen Group, don’t you still need something called dignity?”

Her reaction was very much to Shen Yan’s liking.

Only then did he slowly pick up the bathrobe and put it on, after which he dried his hair with a hair dryer.

As he was drying it, something suddenly felt off. He caught Ye Yaoyao’s hand and shoved the dryer into it. “Dry my hair.”

“I won’t. My hand hurts.”

“How can it hurt if you haven’t even started?” Shen Yan said, not even blinking.

Ye Yaoyao pushed the dryer back at him. “Dry it yourself. I’m tired. I want to sleep.”

“No. Get up and dry my hair.” Shen Yan insisted.

After a long standoff, Ye Yaoyao finally ended up drying his hair for him.

Fine. Considering the man had been stripped of his position, she would let it go for now and not bother arguing.

By the time she finally finished, Ye Yaoyao could at last lie down with her eyes closed.

Drowsy and half-asleep, she drifted off. Then a gust of cold air rushed in, and she was gathered into a warm embrace. Instinctively, she leaned in a little closer.

When she woke again, the room held only Ye Yaoyao.

Where was Shen Yan?

She got up, only to discover that Shen Yan had already finished exercising and was in the kitchen making breakfast.

She could not help laughing as she walked over to watch him. “So you’re planning to change careers?”

Shen Yan did not answer.

At the sight of the crooked, haphazard mess he had made, Ye Yaoyao could not stop herself. “This is less a career change and more instant unemployment.”

Shen Yan looked at her. “Then you’re stuck as my guinea pig.”

Ye Yaoyao wanted to refuse. Yet Shen Yan was head down, handling the ingredients with such seriousness that, for a moment, she could not bear to.

She quickly washed up, did her skincare, applied a light makeup look, and went downstairs.

Shen Yan was fast; breakfast was already ready.

Looking at the food laid out before her, Ye Yaoyao swallowed and hesitated to take a bite.

“Eat,” Shen Yan said in an unmistakably firm tone.

“Do I have to?”

Ye Yaoyao tested the waters. “Or, to put it another way, do I have to eat it?”

“Yes.”

Once she understood the necessity of the matter, Ye Yaoyao closed her eyes as if facing death and stuffed the breakfast Shen Yan had made into her mouth. The next second, she spat it all out.

“Pff—”

Ye Yaoyao swore she had tried very hard to hold it in, but she still could not.

It was simply... too disgusting.

Shen Yan’s expression changed. “Is it really that bad?”

As soon as he finished speaking, he picked up some of the food and was about to taste it himself. Ye Yaoyao considered stopping him, then decided against it.

Let Shen Yan try it for himself. That would save him from lacking self-awareness in the future.

Out of consideration for his own labor, Shen Yan forced himself to swallow it.

“It’s... acceptable.”

Ye Yaoyao only smiled at his strained expression and said nothing more.

“I’ll go make some noodles,” Ye Yaoyao said, heading into the kitchen.

She worked quickly, and a simple bowl of egg noodles was ready in no time.

Shen Yan, for his part, cooperated extremely well by clearing away his own disastrous creation from the table.

Just as the two of them were about to pick up their chopsticks, the doorbell rang.

Ye Yaoyao opened the door and saw Shen Cheng standing outside with a bouquet of flowers in hand.

Her brows drew together at once, and her dislike for Shen Cheng showed without the slightest concealment. “Shen Cheng? What are you doing here?”

“Coming to see you.”

Shen Cheng’s gaze stayed properly fixed on Ye Yaoyao alone. He lifted the flowers slightly. “What do you think? Do you like them?”

“You’ve come to the wrong place.”

Ye Yaoyao was about to close the door when Shen Cheng immediately raised a hand to stop it.

Feeling her hostility, he remained undaunted.

He knew exactly where he stood, so he kept his posture low.

“Yaoyao, give me a chance. I’m pursuing you.”

“Then I’m afraid you’ve come at the wrong time. I’ve hated anyone with the surname Shen all my life, and I don’t want any entanglement with a single person who bears that name.” Ye Yaoyao rejected him without the slightest hesitation.

Seeing that Ye Yaoyao was utterly impervious to persuasion, Shen Cheng could only change the subject.

His gaze drifted toward Shen Yan inside the room. A glint moved through his eyes, and then he waved. “What a coincidence, little brother. You’re here too.”

That was the part Ye Yaoyao hated most.

Clearly, Shen Cheng knew perfectly well that his appearance here had all been arranged by her own design.

Yet he still insisted on pretending it was all a “coincidence.”

A coincidence?

What coincidence was there?

Shen Cheng stepped forward as if he intended to go inside. Ye Yaoyao wanted nothing more than to block him at the door, but out of politeness she still let him enter.

Shen Yan nodded, which counted as a greeting.

Shen Cheng walked to the dining table. “Egg noodles? Perfect. I haven’t had breakfast either.”

Then he turned and called out in an affectedly familiar tone, “Yaoyao, would it be convenient to make me a bowl too?”

“It wouldn’t.”

Ye Yaoyao refused without hesitation. “I still have to go to the company later. I don’t have time.”

With that, she sat down at the table, picked up her chopsticks, and began to eat the noodles.

Shen Yan glanced at Shen Cheng, then also picked up his chopsticks and started eating.

He felt a good deal more balanced now. At least this woman, Ye Yaoyao, still sided with him.

Shen Cheng did not feel awkward at all. He pulled over a stool and sat beside them, watching the two of them eat.

Fortunately, both Ye Yaoyao and Shen Yan were thick-skinned enough not to care.

After they finished, Ye Yaoyao tidied up and prepared to leave, looking straight at Shen Cheng.

“I’m leaving now. You should go.”

“That is indeed something I failed to consider.”

Shen Cheng reached out as if to put an arm around Shen Yan, but Shen Yan sidestepped him. Shen Cheng’s expression stiffened for a moment, though he quickly recovered.

“Little brother, since Yaoyao is about to head out, it really isn’t appropriate for us to stay here any longer. Let’s go. Shall we leave together?”

“The one who isn’t appropriate here is you, not him.”

Ye Yaoyao stepped in front of Shen Yan. “He paid rent to live here, so he has the right to stay. You should leave.”

Paid rent?

Shen Yan caught the point and knew he would need to make it up to Ye Yaoyao later.

Once it had been said this far, any further conversation would only embarrass Shen Cheng.

Unfortunately, Shen Cheng had the skin of a fortress wall and feared nothing.

With a faint, unreadable smile, Shen Cheng looked at Shen Yan. “Little brother, surely not? Your apartment is still available. If that doesn’t work, you can always stay with one of your buddies. Hanging around in a young woman’s home isn’t exactly good for her reputation.”

That was right—he was here to expose Shen Yan.

He probably thought Shen Yan had been relying on pity to stay here, and Shen Cheng had come to tear that facade apart.

He had expected Ye Yaoyao to change color after hearing that, but instead she was still defending Shen Yan.

Ye Yaoyao frowned, annoyance clearly written across her face. “Have you said enough? Whether he stays or goes is his choice.”

“Now get out of my house.”

Without the slightest courtesy, Ye Yaoyao issued the order to leave, and in the end Shen Cheng was driven out.
