Ye Yao-yao also recalled how, during their previous interactions, Gu Yancheng would instinctively protect her. It turned out that everything had traces, nothing was without cause.

For a moment, Ye Yao-yao was at a loss as to how she should conduct herself when meeting Gu Yancheng in the future. Thanks to Shen Yan’s devilish tactics, Ye Yao-yao had given up on receiving his messages. When he got no reply online, Shen Yan simply blocked her offline. Each time Shen Yan came to pick her up, he would cast a smug look at Ye Shen. Ye Shen was displeased, but the matter was tricky—regardless of Shen Yan’s intentions, he had indeed protected Yao-yao. To save face, it was unwise to confront him now; deep-rooted good manners compelled Ye Shen to handle the matter objectively.

Ye Yao-yao glared at Shen Yan, cheeks puffed in anger, and her expression made his eyes soften despite himself. This lively Ye Yao-yao was far more interesting than before—at least, at least she still had feelings toward him.

Ye Yao-yao had resisted, even hiring an auntie to come cook for Shen Yan, but he wouldn’t let her in the door. Shen Yan’s shamelessness was truly outrageous!

But soon, the hundred days of bone healing would pass, and Shen Yan’s wound would heal. After work, Ye Yao-yao was picked up again; she hadn’t eaten, so she sat across from Shen Yan, head lowered, quietly eating her meal.

No matter how much time passed, her culinary skills remained exceptional. Though Ye Yao-yao was showered with affection, she had not neglected proper etiquette training. Her eating posture was graceful, she chewed slowly and quietly.

At this moment, Shen Yan’s eyes contained only her. When she had been his secretary, her attire was almost the same, but he could hardly see her then. She always kept her head down, as though hiding many things, and looked at him only from the corner of her eye.

While picking up a dish, Ye Yao-yao frowned under Shen Yan’s gaze. Following his line of sight, she realized he was looking at her chest?

What?

“Shen Yan, what are you staring at?”

At her words, Shen Yan calmly withdrew his gaze. “Why are you so agitated?”

“Yes, why am I so agitated? What’s there to be surprised about?”

Ye Yao-yao put down her chopsticks, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “The man sitting across from me is shameless and despicable—there’s nothing he wouldn’t do.”

With that, she rose and went upstairs, unwilling to stay on the same floor as Shen Yan.

Shen Yan ate leisurely, finished his meal, handled the remaining work on his laptop, and then went upstairs, ready to have Ye Yao-yao bathe him.

Ye Yao-yao drew water in the bathtub and, expression unchanged, helped him wash. To her, it was merely a task—she just wanted it done and to leave.

“Grandmother is coming back tomorrow. She said she wants to see you.”

“To see me?” Ye Yao-yao frowned. No one in the Shen family knew about the three-year agreement except Shen Yan.

“She said she wants to see my wife,” Shen Yan replied calmly.

Though the three-year agreement had expired, in Shen Yan’s mind, Ye Yao-yao still held that identity. Three years had passed smoothly; he was accustomed and had no intention of changing.

Ye Yao-yao felt Shen Yan was truly absurd, her hands paused. “Wife? Shen Yan, even now, you’re still humiliating me?”

Shen Yan frowned. “Humiliating? Haven’t you always wanted me to acknowledge you publicly?”

“That was before.”

Ye Yao-yao was weary. “Shen Yan, how many times must I tell you—we are over.”

“Affection that comes too late is worth less than grass. Our bond was severed the day you went public with Qin Miao, when the child left!”

She stood, unable to continue.

“The project will end soon. I’ll oversee everything. You’re injured, so just rest.”

Her words left Shen Yan stunned for a long time.

Child?

Ye Yao-yao had a miscarriage?

How did he not know?

No wonder… her expression was so weak that day.

Shen Yan felt as though his chest had been hollowed out. He lay in the bathtub, lost in thought, until the water grew cold.

As expected, Shen Yan caught a cold.

The matter of the child left him utterly ashamed. He cared too little—such important news, and he knew nothing!

Ye Yao-yao finally enjoyed some peace. With a day free, she went shopping with Yu Wanqing, only to unexpectedly encounter Shen Yan and the Shen family matriarch.

Seeing them, she grabbed Yu Wanqing to leave but was stopped by Shen Yan.

“Yao-yao.”

Shen Yan’s gaze was gentle, and his hand had healed. “You must have come especially to accompany Grandmother shopping?”

Ye Yao-yao looked at him speechlessly. Was he still trying to force her?

“No, sir, you’re mistaken.”

Yu Wanqing pulled Ye Yao-yao closer. “Yao-yao is here just to go shopping with me today.”

She cast an annoyed glance at the Shen family matriarch, who was scrutinizing Ye Yao-yao with sharp eyes. “Shen Yan, are you done yet? You’re really annoying.”

Ye Yao-yao’s eyes were full of obvious disgust. “I’ve told you many times—we’re finished! If you want to play the loving couple, go find Qin Miao.”

“She’s an actress, her acting is better.”

Shen Yan looked at Ye Yao-yao with complicated emotions, momentarily speechless.

He would not let go.

No matter how much Ye Yao-yao resisted, he would never give up.

The Shen matriarch watched from the side and immediately understood. She knew something of the situation between Ye Yao-yao and Shen Yan. She’d heard Ye Yao-yao was from an orphanage and looked down on her.

“A Yan, come here.”

The matriarch swept her gaze over them with contempt. “In public, you’re tangled up with two coarse girls—if word gets out, it’ll be the Shen family’s joke.”

“Where’s Miao-miao? Is her film crew still busy? Ask her, how much longer before she comes shopping with me?”

Her meaning was clear—she had already made Shen Yan’s choice for him.

Though Qin Miao’s background wasn’t as good as the Shen family’s, it was better than an orphanage. Her profession was inappropriate for a lady, but that didn’t matter.

“Qin Miao won’t come.”

Shen Yan’s expression was calm. “The one I want you to meet is Yao-yao.”

All three were strikingly attractive, and as prominent figures in the business world, they drew attention wherever they went. Now, with this public conflict, the crowd grew ever larger.

But Shen Yan felt it wasn’t enough.

Ye Yao-yao glanced at the people around, wishing she could disappear into the ground. Shen Yan really knew how to cause trouble!

She tugged at Yu Wanqing’s sleeve. “Let’s go.”

Shen Yan grabbed her. “Yao-yao, I did many things wrong before.”

Ye Yao-yao only wanted to escape, but hearing Shen Yan apologize, she was shocked and looked up.

What was going on?

Had her ears failed her?

Shen Yan was actually apologizing to her?

“A Yan, what are you doing?”

The matriarch was frantic. Shen Yan apologizing in front of so many people—wasn’t that rubbing the Shen family’s dignity in the dirt?

“If you know you’re wrong, get out of my world.”

Ye Yao-yao shot him a fierce glare, then pulled Yu Wanqing through the crowd and left.

It was just as Shen Yan expected.

The wounds he caused would take time to heal; he couldn’t rush it.
