Chapter 113: Feeling Frustrated Without Status

Ye Yaoyao frowned at Shen Tiantian, completely baffled by her behavior.

Wasn’t Shen Tiantian supposed to be Qin Miao’s good friend?

Then why was she being so enthusiastic toward her now?

“Have you eaten?”

Shen Tiantian awkwardly changed the subject. “I haven’t. Shall we have dinner together?”

Ye Yaoyao stood there, at a loss to understand what Shen Tiantian was trying to do.

Before she could react, Shen Tiantian grabbed her and pulled her toward the nearest restaurant.

Once they arrived, Shen Tiantian handed the menu to Ye Yaoyao, a lovestruck smile on her face.

“Yaoyao, what would you like to eat? Order whatever you want.”

Yaoyao...?

Ye Yaoyao was stunned once again. She snatched the menu away and set it aside, staring straight at Shen Tiantian.

“Just tell me what you want. There’s no need to beat around the bush.”

Shen Tiantian was utterly dazzled by Ye Yaoyao’s cool demeanor. She loved this kind of strong, leading-lady personality.

As Shen Tiantian stared at her in fascination, Ye Yaoyao frowned. It wasn’t that she was being rude; she simply felt that Shen Tiantian’s current reaction looked remarkably idiotic...

When Shen Tiantian realized that she still had not answered the question, she hurriedly said, “I’m not beating around the bush. I just want to be friends with you.”

“Aren’t you friends with Qin Miao?”

Ye Yaoyao’s frown deepened. “I don’t think I need to share friends with Qin Miao.”

“But I am Qin Miao’s friend.”

At the mention of this, Shen Tiantian’s voice weakened, and she looked somewhat embarrassed. “It wasn’t my choice, though.”

Saying that, Shen Tiantian finally understood why Ye Yaoyao resented her so much.

“Did you hear something about me from someone else? Qin Miao and I did grow up together, but I don’t like her.”

Shen Tiantian spoke frankly. “I think she’s fake and affected. I don’t like her.”

With that, Shen Tiantian picked up the menu and pushed it toward Ye Yaoyao again.

“So... can you relax and have a meal with me now?”

Listening to her, Ye Yaoyao studied Shen Tiantian, as though trying to determine whether she was telling the truth.

At that moment, Ye Yaoyao’s stomach betrayed her with a rumble.

She had been busy all day and was genuinely hungry.

After ordering their food, they waited for it to arrive while Shen Tiantian gazed at Ye Yaoyao with shining, starry eyes.

Previously, she had only heard about Ye Yaoyao’s exploits and thought she sounded bold and impressive.

Now that she was seeing her in person, Shen Tiantian was even more thoroughly captivated.

She could not help questioning Shen Yan’s taste.

What on earth had Shen Yan been thinking before?

He had such an astonishingly beautiful woman right in front of him, yet he had chosen to maintain an ambiguous relationship with someone like Qin Miao. Was there really nothing wrong with his brain?

During the meal, Ye Yaoyao felt as though Shen Tiantian’s eyes were two enormous searchlights. Being watched so intently made it nearly impossible for her to eat.

Afterward, Ye Yaoyao was about to pay the bill, but Shen Tiantian stopped her.

“I’ll pay. Dinner’s on me.”

Ye Yaoyao did not insist and walked ahead to the entrance.

After paying, Shen Tiantian hurried to catch up, her eyes still fixed on Ye Yaoyao.

“Do you walk to work? Where do you live, then?”

Shen Tiantian fired off one question after another. “Can I stay at your apartment tonight?”

At that, Ye Yaoyao came to an abrupt halt. She turned around and looked at Shen Tiantian in confusion.

What was wrong with the Shen family?

Why did they all keep wanting to stay at other people’s homes? Did they not have a home of their own?

Shen Tiantian quickly stopped as well, narrowly avoiding walking into her.

Just as Ye Yaoyao was about to refuse, a man’s voice suddenly rang out.

“Yaoyao? You haven’t gone home yet, even at this hour?”

The two women turned toward the voice in unison and saw Ye Shen.

Working overtime was an everyday occurrence for Ye Shen.

As someone in a high-ranking position, he had countless matters to deal with each day. Even on the rare occasions when he could leave work early, he would deliberately continue working until late.

“Yes, I’m heading home now. I—”

Ye Yaoyao had not finished speaking when Shen Tiantian directly pushed her aside.

Shen Tiantian stared at Ye Shen with undisguised admiration in her eyes.

“Oh my goodness, is this Ye Shen? He’s even more handsome in person!”

“Yaoyao, is this why you dumped my brother?”

The two of them stared at Shen Tiantian with identical expressions of bewilderment.

Shen Tiantian, however, saw nothing wrong with what she had said. She continued gazing dreamily at Ye Shen.

“Brother, you can go first. I’ll handle things here.”

Ye Yaoyao gave Ye Shen a push. He looked at her worriedly before turning and leaving.

Then she stepped in front of Shen Tiantian, blocking her view.

She had finally severed ties with the Shen family. There was no way she would allow Shen Tiantian to restore that relationship.

“What exactly are you trying to do?” Ye Yaoyao demanded, faintly irritated.

Shen Tiantian’s smile faded. She looked at Ye Yaoyao with a slightly wounded expression.

“Yaoyao, I know the Shen family treated you badly before, but I’m innocent.”

Like an injured puppy, Shen Tiantian tugged lightly at Ye Yaoyao’s clothes.

“I simply want to be your friend. That’s all.”

Hearing this, Ye Yaoyao felt that Shen Tiantian’s words were reasonable.

Indeed, ever since she had come into contact with the Shen family, Shen Tiantian had never done anything to hurt her.

Ye Yaoyao stood there and thought for a moment before turning and walking toward the apartment.

Shen Tiantian followed behind her.

Sure enough, the moment Ye Yaoyao opened the door, she saw Shen Yan waiting with a meal he had prepared.

Once Shen Yan decided to do something, no one could stop him.

Shen Tiantian, however, stood frozen at the doorway in utter shock.

There was nothing wrong with her eyes, was there?

Was the man coming out of the kitchen in an apron and carrying dishes really Shen Yan?

Her second brother, who was always so meticulous and stern at the company?

Shen Yan was also startled to see Shen Tiantian.

He knew that she had returned to the country, but he had no idea what she had been doing.

He had never expected her to come back with Ye Yaoyao.

After a brief silence, Shen Tiantian immediately changed her expression and hurried over to Shen Yan.

With Shen Yan here, she had even more reason to stay.

“Second Brother, I can’t believe you know how to cook. That’s truly astonishing.”

Shen Tiantian glanced toward the kitchen.

“Then I’ll set the table.”

Neither of the Shen siblings showed the slightest intention of treating themselves as outsiders.

One cooked, while the other arranged the dishes and chopsticks.

Ye Yaoyao was more than a little helpless.

She went into the kitchen to wash her hands, then sat down at the dining table.

During the meal, Ye Yaoyao calmly issued her order for them to leave.

“Shen Yan, take your sister home after dinner.”

At that, Shen Yan’s cold gaze fell on Shen Tiantian.

“After dinner, go home by yourself.”

Shen Tiantian: ?

Fine. He was as gentle as flowing water with Yaoyao, yet kept telling her to get lost at the slightest opportunity.

Shen Tiantian was perceptive enough to know when she was unwanted. She set down her bowl and chopsticks and took Ye Yaoyao’s hand.

“Yaoyao, you saw it yourself. I have no standing in the Shen family, and it’s suffocating. I don’t want to go back.”
