Chapter 79: Yu Wanquing's Pursuit Succeeds
Thinking that Ye Qian had only just fallen asleep, Ye Yao felt there was no harm in going out for a late-night snack, so she nodded in agreement. “Alright, let’s go.” Ye Yao sent the address to Yu Wanqing, who would arrive with Feng Yuqi ahead of her.
The two arrived first and started ordering food.
Yu Wanqing arrived later, and upon spotting Ye Yao, hurried over. For days now, unable to find her beloved, she’d been tossing and turning, sleepless.
“Yao Yao, I—”
Before she could finish, her words were swallowed by the sight of Feng Yuqi’s face.
Yu Wanqing’s hand trembled as she pointed at Feng Yuqi. “Yao Yao, why… why is he here?”
Ye Yao was puzzled. “He’s my friend. Do you two know each other?”
“Boss, you and her…” Feng Yuqi wore the same shocked expression.
Ye Yao glanced at Yu Wanqing, then at Feng Yuqi, feeling she understood something, but not entirely.
In the next moment, Yu Wanqing changed direction, hugging Feng Yuqi’s arm as if afraid he might escape.
“You’re not allowed to leave!”
Feng Yuqi sighed helplessly. “I wasn’t planning to leave. My boss is here, after all.”
“Boss?”
Yu Wanqing frowned. “Yao Yao is your boss?”
“It’s nothing, just a nickname.” Feng Yuqi scratched his head sheepishly. “I didn’t expect you’d know my boss.”
“She’s my best friend!” Despite this, Yu Wanqing’s grip on Feng Yuqi didn’t loosen in the slightest. “Yao Yao, you have to help me. Don’t let him get away.”
“I’ve chased him for so long. No point letting the opportunity slip away—help me, please.”
Yu Wanqing was always straightforward, and though Ye Yao had known her for years, she still found herself amused by her words now and then.
Ye Yao spread her hands. “Matters of the heart, I can’t help.”
“Yao Yao!”
“I’m hungry. I’ll eat first. You two talk,” Ye Yao shifted the topic.
Indeed, love couldn’t be forced.
She’d suffered too much before and didn’t wish for anyone else to repeat her mistakes.
Feng Yuqi suddenly recalled the video where Yu Wanqing had pulled him aside, waiting for her best friend—so it was the boss they’d been waiting for?
If only he’d waited a bit longer!
How lucky to meet the boss! Feng Yuqi’s feelings for Ye Yao were pure admiration, nothing romantic.
He owed all his achievements today to Ye Yao.
“You can let go now—I won’t run,” Feng Yuqi said helplessly.
“Really?” Yu Wanqing, wary from past deceptions, asked.
“Of course.” Only then did Yu Wanqing release his arm.
The midnight snack arrived, and Yu Wanqing kept piling food onto Feng Yuqi’s plate.
Ye Yao shook her head in resignation—such a friend, favoring romance over friendship.
“Oh, right, what did you two do together?” Yu Wanqing suddenly asked.
“Just caught up on old times,” Ye Yao replied without batting an eye.
“Reminiscing?”
Yu Wanqing didn’t doubt her. “Next time, invite me.”
“Alright.”
Ye Yao observed Yu Wanqing and Feng Yuqi; by temperament, the two seemed quite suitable.
In love, Feng Yuqi was reserved; Yu Wanqing was direct.
In relationships, complementing each other was often better than being too alike.
“I have something to do, so I’ll leave you two to it,” Ye Yao said, giving Yu Wanqing a meaningful look.
Yu Wanqing immediately understood, blinking playfully. “Alright.”
Her best friend always came through!
“Boss, you barely ate…” Feng Yuqi was reluctant to let her leave.
“There’ll be plenty of chances to meet in the future—no need to rush,” Ye Yao reassured him.
Only then did Feng Yuqi smile at ease.
After Ye Yao left, the two remained.
Yu Wanqing, feeling conflicted, asked, “Feng Yuqi, you don’t like Yao Yao, do you?”
Yao Yao was indeed exceptional.
But Yu Wanqing hoped that wasn’t the case.
“Don’t talk nonsense. My relationship with the boss is pure,” Feng Yuqi replied nervously.
If word got out, Yan would kill him.
“Good.”
Yu Wanqing smiled with relief and hugged his arm again, blinking like a kitten. “What about me, then? How do you feel about me?”
“Feng Yuqi, I’ve chased you for so long. Shouldn’t you at least look back at me?”
Five years!
She’d liked Feng Yuqi from the moment she first saw him.
Unfortunately, he was oblivious—her hints were completely lost on him.
Later, Yu Wanqing pursued him openly, but he kept his distance.
She knew her pursuit might trouble him.
But she truly liked Feng Yuqi.
He was stunned, scratched his head, cheeks flushed—a classic innocent young man.
“I…”
He still felt their family backgrounds were worlds apart.
Feng Yuqi was afraid he couldn’t give Yu Wanqing happiness.
In a family, a man was expected to shoulder responsibility, and he wasn’t sure he was up to it.
Afraid he might reject her, Yu Wanqing kissed him.
Feng Yuqi’s mind went blank—he had no idea how to react.
Over the years, he'd witnessed plenty of bloody scenes, but none struck him as forcefully as Yu Wanqing’s sudden kiss.
Reluctantly, Yu Wanqing let him go. “Feng Yuqi, at least you don’t dislike me, right? If you don’t, then shouldn’t you give me a chance?”
Love makes people humble.
Because of this, when Ye Yao threw herself toward Shen Yan, Yu Wanqing hadn’t objected.
She used to be a butterfly among flowers, untouched by any leaf.
Many sought her affection, but she refused them all.
Perhaps now, the tables had turned.
Feng Yuqi held her shoulders. “You’re wonderful. I’m just not good enough. I may not have what it takes to make you happy.”
“Not good enough? What does that even mean?”
Yu Wanqing retorted, “Feng Yuqi, I love you—not anything else. If you won’t try with me, it’s clearly because you think I’m not good enough. You say I’m wonderful, but you’re lying to me. You—”
The next second, Feng Yuqi kissed her.
Yu Wanqing was stunned at first, then responded, but Feng Yuqi quickly pulled away, his face flushed.
In matters of the heart, he was a blank page—just kissing made him blush.
“Feng Yuqi, you just kissed me. You have to take responsibility now,” Yu Wanqing pressed her advantage.
Feng Yuqi hid his embarrassment by focusing on his food.
He didn’t know what had possessed him to kiss her just then.
Since he’d touched a girl, he must take responsibility.
Still waiting for Feng Yuqi’s answer, Yu Wanqing nestled into his arms.
“I don’t care. You must take responsibility. From now on, you’re my boyfriend!”
Persistence really does pay off.
After all this time, she’d finally gotten him.
“Alright.”
Feng Yuqi nodded, helping her up. “You just ate; don’t lie down—it’s bad for your stomach.”
“Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
Yu Wanqing behaved sweetly, interlacing her fingers with his. “So, when’s our next date?”
“It might not be so easy. I’m working as an assistant for Yan—he’s President Shen. My time isn’t very free,” Feng Yuqi said apologetically.
That was also why he hadn’t agreed to her before.
“Shen Yan? You work for Shen Yan as his assistant?”
