No matter how skilled a person is, even they fear a madman.

It had been a long time since she’d raced a car; thanks to Qin Miao, Ye Yaoyao finally got to let loose this time. All along the way, horns blared incessantly, and behind her came the crashing sounds of collisions. To avoid disturbing the traffic order, Ye Yaoyao headed toward the deserted outskirts.

Then misfortune struck: her car ran out of fuel.

Abandoning the vehicle, Ye Yaoyao sprinted toward the woods. Qin Miao’s face was smeared with blood; she wore a feral grin as she crashed her car into tree after tree. Ye Yaoyao not only had to dodge Qin Miao’s vehicle, but also the falling trees.

Now it was a contest between Ye Yaoyao’s stamina and Qin Miao’s willpower.

Eventually, Qin Miao’s car also ran out of fuel. Ye Yaoyao was gasping for breath.

The two found themselves atop a small slope.

Ye Yaoyao collapsed onto the ground, panting heavily, while Qin Miao stepped out with a knife in hand, advancing toward her.

“Ye Yaoyao, you ruined me! It’s all because of you that my life has become so miserable!”

Qin Miao shrieked, swinging the knife at Ye Yaoyao. “If it weren’t for you, Ah Yan wouldn’t have rejected me, I wouldn’t have been humiliated and lost my reputation!”

“After Ah Yan left me, I lost my job too—you’re forcing me to die!”

Ye Yaoyao dodged effortlessly; Qin Miao, wounded, moved heavily.

“Qin Miao, you brought this upon yourself. You tried to harm me, but were bitten back instead.”

Ye Yaoyao had no time to console Qin Miao’s emotions—she herself was furious.

“It’s you!”

Qin Miao’s body hunched; she had lost too much blood, her consciousness began to blur. “If it weren’t for you, none of this would have happened. Once you’re dead, everything will return to how it was.”

Ye Yaoyao looked at the hopeless Qin Miao and shook her head helplessly.

She decided she would have Qin Miao sent to prison.

“I’ll kill you!”

Qin Miao screamed, hacking at Ye Yaoyao several more times. When she found she couldn’t hurt her, panic set in—she reached to push Ye Yaoyao off the slope.

Ye Yaoyao dodged, and Qin Miao, propelled by momentum, tumbled down the hill.

In a split second, she grabbed Ye Yaoyao’s clothes.

Both rolled down the slope together.

With Qin Miao serving as a cushion, Ye Yaoyao wasn’t badly injured, but she still ended up with a bleeding scrape.

Ye Yaoyao fumbled for her phone to call an ambulance but realized it was nowhere to be found.

She struggled up, only then noticing her ankle was twisted.

Limping, Ye Yaoyao made her way outside, just as she heard ambulances and police cars approaching.

“Someone’s here, there are injured people!”

Ye Yaoyao was lifted onto the stretcher. She blinked, wanting to check if she had a concussion.

Soon, Qin Miao was found and placed on another ambulance.

After a round of examinations, Ye Yaoyao was in fairly good condition, while Qin Miao was admitted to the ICU.

Upon hearing what had happened, Ye Shen was the first to arrive at the hospital. Seeing Ye Yaoyao’s head wrapped in bandages, his heart ached and he cursed loudly, “Yaoyao, Qin Miao deserves to die for what she did!”

“If anything happened to you, even ten lives wouldn’t be enough for her to pay!”

“Brother, I’m fine, don’t get so worked up.”

Ye Yaoyao hurried to calm Ye Shen, accidentally tugging her wound and wincing in pain.

“Just lie down and don’t move. Fine, I won’t scold her anymore.”

Ye Shen sat down on a stool. “It takes a hundred days to recover from injuries to the muscles and bones. You’ll need to rest for a while.”

“Don’t worry about company matters for now.”

“All right, I’ll listen to you.” Ye Yaoyao replied obediently.

Ye Shen ordered a pile of supplements for her.

Shen Yan, upon hearing the news, rushed over. He arrived to see Ye Shen sitting at the bedside, feeding Ye Yaoyao porridge.

Ye Yaoyao was relaxed, lying in bed and enjoying Ye Shen’s care.

She opened her mouth, and Ye Shen naturally spooned the porridge to her lips. She drank it without thinking. Their gestures were intimate and seamless, as if they had years of affection between them.

This scene stabbed sharply at Shen Yan’s heart.

He slammed the door open, the door banging against the wall with a loud crash.

Hearing the commotion, both looked up and frowned in unison, full of disdain.

Ye Yaoyao glanced at him, then reached for Ye Shen for a hug.

Ye Shen saw through her little scheme, and pulled her into his arms, continuing to feed her porridge.

Shen Yan kicked the door again.

“You’re in the wrong place—the psychiatric ward isn’t here,” Ye Shen said, not even lifting his head.

Ye Yaoyao laughed, then kissed Ye Shen on the cheek. “Exactly!”

“I have something to say to you,” Shen Yan’s face was dark.

“Are we close?”

“Ye Yaoyao!”

At that, Ye Yaoyao feigned a headache, leaning deeper into Ye Shen’s embrace. “No, I can’t stand the sound of a dog barking—it gives me a migraine.”

“Get out,” Ye Shen ordered.

Shen Yan trembled with rage. Yet recalling what happened that night, he smiled meaningfully. “I’m here to take responsibility—for what happened at the birthday banquet.”

Mention of that night changed Ye Yaoyao’s expression. Ye Shen’s grip tightened.

Birthday banquet?

Yu Wanqing’s birthday?

That day, with Yu Wanqing present, Ye Shen hadn’t expected such an accident.

Sensing the shift in atmosphere, Shen Yan felt his provocation had worked.

Between men, there are some things no one can accept.

“We were mutually attracted that night. Naturally…”

“Enough!”

Ye Yaoyao glared fiercely at Shen Yan. This man was shameless, speaking of such things in front of her brother!

Seeing her reaction, Shen Yan smiled in satisfaction—that was precisely the effect he wanted.

“What’s wrong? Don’t you remember what happened that night? I can tell you in detail if you’d like,” Shen Yan continued to provoke.

“Enough, I’ll make you shut up!”

Ye Yaoyao shouted until her head hurt, then gently nudged Ye Shen. “Please step out for a moment.”

Ye Shen nodded, set down the supplements, gave Shen Yan a deep look, and left, closing the door behind him.

“You’d better have something important to say.”

“How do you plan to deal with Qin Miao?” Shen Yan got straight to the point.

“So you’re here to plead for her.”

Ye Yaoyao laughed mockingly. “So President Shen is still a sentimental man.”

Shen Yan said nothing.

“This isn’t negotiable. I have to send Qin Miao to prison. If you want to oppose me, then let Ye family and Shen family go head-to-head.”

Ye Yaoyao spoke calmly.

“Ye family against Shen family? You’re so confident Ye Shen would mobilize the family’s power for you?” Shen Yan was irritated.

Why did she have such faith in Ye Shen?

“You can try.”

Ye Yaoyao closed her eyes, unwilling to look at Shen Yan any longer.

Shen Yan took a deep breath; considering their current relationship, he could only retreat for now.

He hadn’t come to plead for Qin Miao.

Qin Miao had harmed Ye Yaoyao behind his back—he couldn’t let that slide.

He had let Qin Miao off before out of old affection, but she had only escalated her behavior.

“How are you feeling? Is there anywhere else you’re uncomfortable?” Shen Yan asked awkwardly.

Ye Yaoyao found it odd, opened her eyes, and looked at him in confusion.

“What are you talking about?”
