Chapter 78: A Lonely Soul Unable to Sleep
The two Ye brothers saw Liu Ruyan’s official announcement, and their first reaction was worry. Ye Qian knew he had acted wrongly this time; he shouldn’t have sought out Yao Yao after being injured. Ye Yao Yao understood their intentions and gave an innocent smile.
“Alright, then I’ll live safely under my brothers’ wings.”
Ye Qian nodded, affectionately rubbing her hair. “Don’t tell Mom about this.”
“Second Brother, telling Mom won’t help. She doesn’t really care whether you live or die.”
“Yao Yao!”
Ye Qian’s defenses broke. “Your second brother is lying here injured, and you still have the heart to mock me?”
Yao Yao continued to play the fool and smile.
After settling Ye Qian, Yao Yao sent a message and then headed down to the parking lot.
Feng Yuqi had been waiting for a while. When he saw Yao Yao, he couldn’t contain his excitement.
“Boss, I finally get to meet you!”
Yao Yao slid into the passenger seat. “You’re so busy, how do you have the time?”
“That’s just a side job. My real profession is following you, Boss,” Feng Yuqi said eagerly.
He missed the days abroad, when he and Yao Yao would venture out and right wrongs together!
Now, every day spent doing routine things with Brother Yan felt dull to Feng Yuqi.
“Drive. Let’s go!” Coldness flashed in Yao Yao’s eyes.
The two headed to a bar. After parking, Yao Yao went straight upstairs to the presidential suite.
She kicked the door open, revealing a room filled with spicy scenes.
Yao Yao’s expression didn’t change.
The man surrounded in the center of the room darkened his face, and soon his lackeys jumped up to show off.
“Who are you? Do you think you can just kick down our boss’s door?”
“Boss?” Yao Yao sneered at the title. “Him? He’s not worthy.”
“You little wench, do you even know how to talk?” Another lackey tried to step forward but was stopped by their boss.
The boss forced a smile. “Young lady, I’ll let you off this time since you’re still young.”
“But remember, you only get one chance.”
He was in a good mood today, having just dealt with Ye Qian, and didn’t want trouble.
“Get lost. Our boss is being generous with you.”
Yao Yao stood her ground, fixing a cold gaze on the boss.
Another lackey couldn’t hold back, stepping toward Yao Yao, reaching out to shove her shoulder—only to have his wrist seized and twisted.
A crack sounded, followed by a scream and the snap of bone. “Your hands are filthy—don’t touch me.”
With that, Yao Yao tossed him aside.
The lackey stared at Yao Yao in disbelief, clutching his hand. “You… you little brat, you dare twist my wrist? I…”
Despite the pain, without the boss’s order, the lackey dared not move further. He could only look at the boss, aggrieved. “Boss, she… she hurt me!”
“Coward, all you can do is whine for help,” Yao Yao scoffed.
“Even beating a dog, you need to mind its master.”
The boss’s voice dropped several degrees. “Young lady, I just gave you a chance. If you don’t appreciate it, don’t blame me for being tough on the weak.”
He crossed his legs and snapped his fingers: “Take her down!”
The next moment, a group rushed at Yao Yao, but she remained still.
Just then, Feng Yuqi arrived, joining the fray. Yao Yao walked unobstructed toward the boss.
The boss realized the seriousness of the situation, pulling a fruit knife from beneath the coffee table and slashing at Yao Yao.
She dodged easily, kicking the knife aside.
Her agile movements made the boss realize things were far from simple.
They grappled, but the boss, used to relying on numbers and brute force, quickly fell behind.
Yao Yao hoisted the battered boss like a dead pig, dumped him onto the coffee table, and pressed his shoulder with her foot.
She pulled a small knife from her boot.
The boss trembled in terror. “Spare me, heroine… have mercy…”
A life is a life. Years spent skirting the underworld, he’d always brushed past the King of Hell.
He’d thought his luck would hold.
But now, this girl before him was a living reaper.
She was here for his life.
Yao Yao’s face remained unchanged; the first stab sank into the boss’s abdomen. He grunted.
“Is that so? Was it like this when you stabbed him?”
Yao Yao grabbed the boss’s hair, forcing him to meet her gaze, then pulled out the knife and stabbed again. “What were you thinking when you stabbed him?”
When she saw Ye Qian covered in blood, Yao Yao had barely kept herself from going mad.
Her family was her life; anyone who touched her bottom line had only one fate: death.
“Who… who was he? Who?” the boss asked in terror.
“Too many crimes to recall?”
Yao Yao stabbed him several more times. “Let me help. Do you remember now?”
“I remember, I remember…” the boss pleaded repeatedly.
Satisfied, Yao Yao tossed him to the floor.
She dusted her hands and sat where the boss had sat.
Yao Yao raised her foot, kicking the coffee table over with a crash.
Feng Yuqi finished off the last opponent, glanced at Yao Yao, and saw again the heroic leader of old!
Yes!
Wonderful!
He finally felt that old sense of camaraderie.
“I need your help with something,” Yao Yao grinned, once again wearing her innocent mask.
The boss clutched his wound, forcing a smile through the pain. “I’ll help, of course…”
“Heroine, just say the word.”
How could he refuse?
“Don’t let anyone know what happened tonight,” Yao Yao said slowly. “Boss, you wouldn’t want word of your downfall getting out, would you?”
She stepped up, patting his clothes.
Her movements were gentle, but the threat was unmistakable.
The boss nodded, sweating nervously. “Yes, of course…”
The motion tugged at his abdominal wounds, but he dared not make a sound.
“Alright, I’ll keep it secret. Absolutely.”
“Then, a pleasant cooperation.”
“Yes, yes, all as you say.” The boss grinned obsequiously.
Yao Yao stood, hands in her pockets, sweeping a contemptuous glance over the boss, as if he didn’t even exist.
“Let’s go.” She led Feng Yuqi out.
Feng Yuqi followed, unable to suppress his smile.
This was the feeling.
Yao Yao opened the car door and got in, Feng Yuqi right behind.
“Boss, are you in a hurry to go home?”
“What is it?”
“It’s been so long since we met—how about we grab a late-night snack together?” Feng Yuqi was reluctant to part so soon.
Yao Yao had planned to head home, but at that moment, Yu Wanqing’s message arrived.
“Yao Yao, I’m all alone and can’t sleep. Treat me to a late-night snack.”
