093. The Holy Champion of Salvation, the Nemesis of Evil, the Warrior of Light
As for the Destroyer, Su Ye did not really know how strong its shell truly was. He had never tried to meet it head-on; he had simply tossed in a reactor bomb and called it a day.
If he were to face it in direct combat, Su Ye felt that with his current abilities, tearing the Destroyer apart barehanded was virtually impossible.
Likewise, defeating the Abomination with his fists did not seem easy either.
Just as he had expected, from within the ruins the Abomination had crashed through, there came a rattling clatter in short order. Then a concrete pillar segment more than a meter long flew out like a shell, hurtling straight toward Su Ye.
The massive green figure followed close behind. The Abomination had not only escaped unscathed; it seemed even more ferocious as it charged out, like a speeding train barreling straight at Su Ye.
With spider sense lending him aid, avoiding the flying concrete and the Abomination was no difficult matter for Su Ye.
Yet he merely gave a soft snort. With a quick sidestep he dodged the incoming pillar, then met the charging Abomination without yielding an inch.
"Roar!"
The Abomination bellowed and, folding in his arms, drove his shoulder hard at Su Ye. He intended for Su Ye to taste the same sensation of being hurled away.
But at the instant the two collided, Su Ye slid half a step aside, coming to the Abomination's flank. At the same time, he hooked an arm over the other's shoulder, twisted his body, flung out his hand, and shouted:
"Be gone!"
Then everyone saw the Abomination soar through the air at a speed even greater than before, flung dozens of meters away before slamming with a thunderous crash into the building opposite.
Rumble. Half the wall caved in.
Amid the ruins, the Abomination shook his head and raised it from a pile of shattered debris, staring at Su Ye in bewilderment. The speed had been too fast; he seemed not to understand what had just happened.
How had he flown away?
His eyes burned red. Unlike Bruce Banner, who could switch between ordinary human and Hulk, with consciousness divided like a split mind, the Abomination's body was fixed. It remained forever in its present form, unable to revert, while preserving all of Emil Blonsky's original personality.
That included the pride of a soldier born and bred for war.
"Roar!"
With another furious howl, the Abomination charged Su Ye again. He swore he would not fall in the same place twice!
"Be gone!"
Boom!
Another building's wall was smashed clean through. The survivors inside trembled in fear, while the bystanders outside watched with relish, their gazes already casting Su Ye as a hero who had come to save the world.
"Roar!"
"Be gone!"
Boom!
"Roar!"
"Be gone!"
"Roar!"
...
As the buildings along both sides of the street were destroyed one after another and came crashing down, someone finally read a deeper meaning into Su Ye's mask.
"A red mask... is that meant to imitate a matador's cloth?"
Once that was said, the people around him immediately found it convincing.
The Abomination was strong, like a mad bull in the ring: savage, fierce, powerful, terrifying.
Su Ye had stepped forward, yet he could not match the brute strength of the Abomination, who could toss cars around as if they were pebbles. No, he disdained to compare strength with such a savage beast. So he became the matador instead, using courage and wit to toy with his opponent as he pleased.
This was a thrill entirely different from the kind of combat where every blow landed in the flesh and muscle solved everything.
The crowd watched with rising excitement, and some even began inventing a heroic name for Su Ye.
Matador? No, there was no bull here.
So simply call him Fighter? That was no good either; too plain. Better to add a prefix.
Heroes are sacred, radiant, and great; they save people from peril, vanquish evil, and spread light.
So why not call him: Sacred Radiant Savior, Evil's Nemesis, Light Fighter!
Yes, that was it. Mighty and resounding, perfectly capturing the very definition of a hero. Splendid!
On the street, the Abomination had already launched that charge at the Sacred Radiant... cough, at Su Ye more than a dozen times. Each attempt was like a dump truck rushing forward, so ferocious it made the scalp tingle.
And every single time, it ended with him being flung away.
After more than ten rounds, not even the Abomination was the only one growing tired of it; the spectators were beginning to lose interest as well.
You're such a huge brute, and all you can do is charge? Can't you do anything else? Look at the houses on both sides of the street; they're nearly torn down to the foundations. Are you here to fight a hero, or to demolish the neighborhood?
After being thrown countless times, the Abomination finally seemed to realize that savage charging was useless. This time, after clawing out of the ruins, he did not rush forward at once. Instead, he reached out and seized a small car beside him.
Then a smug smile suddenly appeared on his battered, swollen face.
"Let's see what you'll do this time!"
Whoosh!
A small car weighing over a ton was hurled out like a basketball by the Abomination, crashing toward Su Ye through the air. And as soon as the first one flew off, the Abomination immediately grabbed a second.
The weight of a car was far greater than the Abomination's own, and its flight path was a parabola, unlike a ground charge that could be effortlessly redirected. More importantly, each car was a bomb waiting to happen; once one exploded, the rest would follow in a chain of relentless detonations.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Like a basketball practice partner, the Abomination kept hurling cars at Su Ye.
Naturally, Su Ye would not sit and wait for death. A car's arc was fixed, but a human being was not. He could still use throwing techniques to send the vehicles back the same way, but there was no need.
Wasn't it easier to simply dodge? And he could give the audience something even more thrilling to watch.
Su Ye unleashed his speed and slipped aside, evading each car the Abomination sent flying. His movements were not only smooth, but elegant as well.
That said, this was rather unfriendly to the spectators watching from afar.
Once the Abomination went from charging a stationary target to hurling at a moving one, the risk of collateral damage multiplied several times over, because when Su Ye dodged, he did not do so only on the ground; sometimes he leaped onto walls, streetlights, and the like.
That turned the Abomination into a veritable artillery battery. Countless cars were launched as shells, with a range of several hundred meters.
And America was a nation built on wheels. Other things on the road might be in short supply, but cars were not. The Abomination kept walking and throwing, yet even after ten minutes he still had not cleared a single street.
In an instant, within a radius of several hundred meters around their battlefield, the area became a full-blown warzone, filled with car crashes and explosions from colliding fuel tanks, with fire and smoke everywhere.
General Ross, looking down from the plane, suddenly felt as though he had returned to the battlefield in Afghanistan.
"Maybe if I had deployed the troops from the start and brought heavy weapons in, this would have been the most we could have achieved anyway."
