119. The Peerless Toad: Quacking Rampage
To be honest, the embroidered spring knife and the flying fish suit did somewhat give away his identity—it was easy to guess that this toad was connected to the Dragon Nation. But it didn’t really matter; Westerners can’t even tell one East Asian face from another, so how could they possibly distinguish Eastern cultures?
“Hello there, Boss Toad!” Su Ye jumped up and greeted the toad boss. It was said that frogs and toads have poor static vision, so if he didn’t jump, the other party might not even see him.
The toad boss lowered his head and threw Su Ye a disdainful look, tinged with irritation. “Who are you?”
“I’m Su Ye. My father is Su Mutian,” Su Ye quickly introduced himself, hoping that the old Su’s reputation would carry some weight.
Sure enough, upon hearing the name, the toad boss’s expression instantly softened. “Oh, so you’re Little Tian’s son! When you were young, I even held you in my arms. It’s been years, and you’ve grown into quite the handsome man, even more dashing than your father in his youth. Hahaha...”
Su Ye: “...”
So not only had his appearance taken on the Dragon Nation’s traits, but even his personality had changed. This neighborly old man’s way of speaking was surprisingly endearing.
As the toad boss chatted with Su Ye, suddenly, a dozen or so Zetar soldiers appeared not far away, piloting small flying vehicles in formation, charging straight toward them. Clearly, in their eyes, this sudden giant toad was an Earthling ally, thus an enemy to be eliminated.
From a distance, the Zetar soldiers raised their guns, preparing to open fire in unison.
But at that moment, a thick black shadow suddenly whipped out from the toad boss’s mouth. After a flick in mid-air, the dozen Zetar soldiers instantly vanished without a trace.
The toad boss closed his mouth, his cheeks twitching as he spat out, “Ugh! What kind of bug is this? So disgusting!”
Hinata and Neji were so stunned they couldn’t even respond, staring blankly at the toad boss, their little heads filled with question marks.
“What’s going on with these guys? Is Earth in danger again?” the toad boss said leisurely after spitting.
Su Ye’s sharp ears caught the keyword “again.” “Boss Toad, when was the last time Earth was in danger? What kind of danger was it?”
The worldview of this world was gradually filling in as Su Ye unlocked clues, but no updates or explanations came along, so he had to explore and discover by himself.
The toad boss snorted, “Go ask your father yourself. I don’t have time to explain.”
After speaking, the toad boss squinted and looked far off at a Leviathan beast slowly flying toward them. A glint flashed in his eyes, and one hand rested on the enormous spring knife’s hilt.
“Those alien bastards haven’t even spent fifteen years here before forgetting the lessons Earth taught them. Looks like the punishment last time was too light!”
As he spoke, the toad boss kept his gaze fixed on the Leviathan approaching, tightening his grip on the knife. Then, with a shout, he spat a mouthful of aged, thick phlegm, which slammed heavily onto the Leviathan’s head.
Su Ye instantly felt his inner energy for sarcastic remarks surge explosively to the top of his head.
You’ve been building up for so long, and I thought you were about to draw your blade, but you ended up spitting? Well, just kidding—it wasn’t really phlegm, but a ninjutsu technique.
Water Release: Iron Cannon Ball!
The massive water sphere shot forth like a cannonball, striking the Leviathan’s head and stopping it dead. However, its immense body and weight carried it forward with inertia.
Then came a loud series of cracking and creaking sounds. The colossal Leviathan squashed itself together like an accordion, its head retreating entirely into its body.
With a deafening wail, the Leviathan’s entire form collapsed like a mountain of gold and jade pillars, crashing heavily to the ground.
The toad boss let out a faint snort, “Trash.”
“Little Ye, you were too young to have witnessed the great war back then,” the toad boss looked down at Su Ye. “But it’s fine. There are plenty of these ugly things now. Though they’re a bit weaker compared to those old monsters, at least there are many of them.”
“Come on, hop on Grandpa Wen’s back. I’ll show you what true battlefield supremacy looks like!”
The toad boss’s expression was fierce, filled with hatred for the aliens. Seeing this, Su Ye didn’t dare interfere or reveal that these aliens were allowed in on purpose—and that the gates were left open for them.
Judging by this, even if they were in America, and these aliens couldn’t reach the Dragon Nation, the toad boss wouldn’t let them run wild.
Compared to that, being called “Little Ye” or “Grandpa” was nothing.
“Can I bring Hinata along? Her father is Xiang Rizu,” Su Ye asked.
“That little brat’s daughter, huh? Sure, bring her along,” the toad boss said, sounding quite friendly toward Old Su and his comrades.
Without further ado, Su Ye wrapped his arm around Hinata’s waist and leapt onto the toad boss’s head.
Boom! Boom!
Two puffs of smoke burst, and they transformed into two lumps perched atop the toad boss’s head, blending in perfectly.
The toad boss didn’t mind and called out, “Hold on tight!”
Then with a great leap, he soared over a thousand meters away.
Neji, left behind, suddenly felt he should be under a car, not here. Also, his father was a little white-eyed bastard too and had done the same thing as his uncle. So why couldn’t he ride atop the toad’s head for a joyride?
Could it be just because he was a boy?
Neji’s sorrow was understood by no one and cared for by even fewer.
Meanwhile, the two lumps were experiencing a thrill comparable to a free-fall amusement ride.
After a big leap, the toad boss landed beneath a Leviathan beast, gripping his knife’s hilt and swinging fiercely, the blade flashing cold light.
Whoosh!
The knife sliced through the massive Leviathan flying overhead. It seemed unaware, but mid-flight, its body inexplicably split into two halves, which crashed down on either side, crushing dozens of towering buildings.
“Boss Toad, so mighty and domineering!”
“Boss Toad is awesome!”
Hearing the cheers above, the toad boss smiled faintly. This was just the beginning. When Grandpa says battlefield supremacy, did you think he was joking?
Ignoring their shouts, the toad boss crouched slightly and leapt again like a cannonball toward another Leviathan farther away.
This Leviathan was higher up in the air, dozens of meters from the ground—out of reach of the blade—but the toad boss didn’t care, striking down mid-air.
Boom!
The Leviathan was instantly cleaved in two, crashing heavily to the ground.
Without pausing after the kill, the toad boss jumped once more and charged toward another Leviathan.
Swing, land, jump, swing... repeatedly.
Every jump from the toad boss was followed by a strike, and every strike brought another Leviathan down—without exception.
With his activity, the military naturally noticed him.
Having such a powerful ally to swiftly clear alien invaders was generally a good thing, but some people saw it differently.
“What’s up with that giant toad? Why is he here?”
The speaker was a senior military officer, clearly displeased with the toad. His tone implied he knew the toad personally.
“Contact Old Dragon immediately, ask what’s going on. Who gave them the authority to act freely here? We’re already at war, and they’re interfering without permission. What do they think they’re doing?”
For the military, New York was already a wreck. It couldn’t get any worse, so they had to silently accept the losses.
But setting aside actual damage, if they could win this battle quickly and alone, at least they could save face.
They could tell the outside world, “Don’t stand there and talk nonsense. No matter whose home this happened at, no one could have done better than us.”
Provided they won swiftly and unaided.
Now, looking at the alien invasion’s relentless pace, “swift” was impossible. Only “alone” remained as a point for them to claim.
Then the giant toad, long believed to belong to the Dragon Nation’s side from over a decade ago, suddenly reappeared.
Many knew the toad well. Even if they ended the war immediately, many would credit the victory to the toad and the Old Dragon behind him.
What was this? We lost a city, yet Old Dragon earned all the glory?
Damn it!
At the council, Alexander Pierce also came knocking.
Zheng Xian said flatly, “That toad isn’t under our jurisdiction.”
