Once all the items for the trip home and the New Year’s goods had been prepared, Guocheng Wang called the car rental company. The person who answered was Xiaoyang Yu. Ever since that incident, he had treated Guocheng Wang with extreme caution and deference.

Over the phone, Xiaoyang Yu’s voice trembled slightly, “Mr. Wang, what can I do for you?”

Guocheng Wang spoke directly, “Hello, is this Tianma Car Rental? We’ll be setting off in ten minutes. Can you have a car here by then?”

Xiaoyang Yu didn’t really understand why Guocheng Wang was keeping such a low profile and acting mysteriously in Kangcheng, let alone why he was playing at role-playing games. These past few days, Xiaoyang Yu had taken on different roles over the phone. He wanted to ask Guocheng Wang for an explanation, but thinking of his own job, he swallowed the urge.

“Mr. Wang, may I ask where you are?”

Guocheng Wang replied impatiently, “We’re at Yinyue Residence. Ten minutes!”

Fanny Fan, standing beside him, found it hard to believe. “Guocheng, you want them to get here in ten minutes? Are they flying a plane?”

Guocheng Wang ignored her incredulity and barked into the phone, “Is there a problem?”

On the other end, Xiaoyang Yu wiped the sweat from his brow, “No, no problem at all, Mr. Wang. Don’t worry, your car will be there in ten minutes.”

Time passed quickly, and just as Guocheng Wang and Fanny Fan finished packing their luggage, Guocheng Wang’s phone rang.

“Mr. Wang, your car is ready and parked at the entrance of Yinyue Residence. The license plate is Kang C1208.”

Xiaoyang Yu spoke to Guocheng Wang with utmost care, fearful of offending him.

Guocheng Wang was pleased with Xiaoyang Yu’s efficiency. “Well done.”

With that, he ended the call.

Guocheng Wang took up two large suitcases and reached for Fanny Fan’s hand. “Fanny, let’s go downstairs. The car from the rental just called—they’ve delivered the car.”

She looked at him in disbelief, full of questions. “Guocheng, that was so fast! It’s only been a few minutes and the car is already here? At this hour, Kangcheng is usually jammed. Did it fly here?”

Guocheng Wang only smiled and strode ahead. Once they had taken the elevator and reached the gate of the residence, a man in the car rental’s uniform stepped out of the Kang C1208, respectfully handing the keys to Guocheng Wang.

“Sir, here are your keys. Have a pleasant journey!”

Fanny Fan watched the polite man in the uniform, astonished at how deferentially he treated Guocheng Wang. What on earth was going on? Did Guocheng Wang really have such a powerful presence?

While she was caught up in her thoughts, Guocheng Wang had already loaded all the luggage into the trunk. It was only when he ushered her into the front passenger seat that she snapped out of it.

“Guocheng, which rental company is this? That driver just now was so courteous.”

This was no ordinary car rental. But Guocheng Wang couldn’t tell her the truth yet. Fastening his seatbelt, his hand on the wheel, he grinned.

“I’m not sure about this rental company—it was Justice Tang who found it for me. Do you think their service is good?”

Fanny glanced around the spotless interior and recalled the driver’s humility and politeness. “This company deserves more than five stars. Feels more like six-star service.”

As they were still discussing the driver’s extraordinary service, Fanny Fan’s phone rang.

“Fanny, Aunt said you’re renting a car to go back to Yongnan Town, right? Yeye’s morning sickness is really bad, and it’s hard for her to travel in public transport. Could we ride with you?”

Seeing Ron Kai’s name on the screen, Fanny responded quickly, “Ron, where are you now? Guocheng and I are still at Yinyue Residence, just about to leave!”

Ron Kai, carrying bags of goods and looking back at Yeye Yang, who was lagging behind due to strong morning sickness, frowned and spoke into the phone, “Fanny, sorry about this. We’ve just left Peace Peninsula.”

Fanny turned to Guocheng Wang, “Guocheng, Ron just called. Yeye’s morning sickness is pretty bad—they’d like to ride with us to Yongnan Town…”

Guocheng Wang patted her hand and gave an “OK” sign. “No problem. Where are they? I’ll drive over and pick them up.”

Fanny was delighted by his quick agreement. She said to Ron on the phone, “Ron, you and Yeye wait for us at your community gate. We’ll be there soon.”

Guocheng Wang, used to driving automatics, found the manual transmission a bit awkward. Along the way, he and Fanny chatted about family traditions for the Spring Festival, and before long, they had arrived at the entrance of Yinyue Residence.

After just a week apart, Yeye Yang’s belly had grown noticeably larger.

Fanny walked up and affectionately placed her hand on Yeye’s stomach. “Baby, do you know who I am? I’m your Aunt Fanny. You’d better listen to your mom, or I’ll have to spank your little bottom.”

Yeye batted her hand away, laughing. “Stop it, you’ll scare my baby!”

Then, glancing at Guocheng Wang, she nodded politely. “Hello, we meet again.”

Guocheng Wang flashed a bright smile. “You’re too polite, sister-in-law.”

Fanny blushed at hearing him call Yeye “sister-in-law” and nudged Guocheng with her elbow. “Hey, what are you doing? You’re embarrassing her!”

Guocheng Wang ushered Fanny into the front seat, then returned to the driver’s seat. Once Ron Kai and Yeye Yang were settled in the back, he started the car and greeted Ron, “Long time no see!”

Ron nodded in return. “How are you finding life in Kangcheng? The weather here is rather cold and damp—people from the north often find it difficult to adjust.”

Guocheng Wang, hand on the wheel, turned back to look at Ron. “Thank you for asking. These past twenty-odd days have been better than I expected. The air feels fresher than I imagined.”

Ron pressed on, “Have you ever thought about settling down in Kangcheng? I saw a news report the other day—honestly, I thought you were the CEO of KINGYI Group. You and KINGYI.WANG look remarkably alike.”

Guocheng Wang laughed, touched his face self-consciously, and said humbly, “I’m nowhere near that. According to the reports, KINGYI.WANG is a billionaire, and I’m just an ordinary teacher.”
