Chapter 100: Correction
Tang Ling had never imagined that her failed suicide attempt would somehow restore her friendship with Fan Xiaoyou and Yang Yey. Watching the three of them huddle together, He Lu felt genuinely glad for them.
For the moment, the most urgent matter was identifying the man who had kidnapped Tang Ling. He Lu stepped forward and said, “Miss Tang, now that you’re awake, I hope you’ll cooperate with us so we can crack this case as quickly as possible and find the man who abducted you.”
Just remembering the filthy and vile things Scarface had done to her made Tang Ling shiver all over.
She hesitated, then said, “Officer He, I’m sorry. Back then I was drugged. By the time I woke up, I was already in a basement. The man who hurt me... he always wore a mask whenever he acted. I never saw his true face...”
He Lu gently guided her on, “Then do you remember the last person you met?”
At the mention of the last person she had seen, Tang Ling wanted to tear every inch of Yu Xiaoyang’s skin from his body.
Thinking of the torment she had endured for nearly a month, every bit of it was thanks to Yu Xiaoyang.
Tang Ling gripped He Lu’s hand in agitation. “Officer He, I want to report someone. He’s the general manager of King Yi Group’s Kangcheng branch, and he knows the man who kidnapped me. Before I was harmed, I was in Yu Xiaoyang’s office. I... I’m Yu Xiaoyang’s personal assistant.”
He Lu had not expected the sweet-looking Tang Ling to be someone else’s hidden lover. A personal assistant was the polite way of saying it; to put it bluntly, she was a kept woman.
Frowning, He Lu knew that King Yi Group’s Kangcheng branch was one of the city’s major taxpayers. If this really involved King Yi Group, then things would hardly be simple.
“Miss Tang, I hope you can provide some favorable evidence that proves Yu Xiaoyang is connected to the man who kidnapped you.”
Tang Ling looked a little embarrassed. “I... I have a phone recording. The last time I had an argument with Yu Xiaoyang, I happened to record it with my phone. I don’t know if that counts as evidence. It just... there are some other things in it too...”
He Lu exchanged a knowing look with Fan Xiaoyou. “We’re not interested in anything else. If Miss Tang truly has a recording, then please hand it over to us.”
Tang Ling’s face grew hot. “That recording is on my phone, and it contains some private... I...”
He Lu took the phone Tang Ling handed over and quickly found the audio files in the notebook he carried with him.
Since he could not be sure which file was the recording Tang Ling wanted to use against Yu Xiaoyang, He Lu had no choice but to listen to them one by one.
Then a stretch of heavy breathing and soft moans made him terribly awkward. Fan Xiaoyou and Yang Yey covered their ears, while Tang Ling stood there blushing furiously, too ashamed to meet anyone’s eyes.
Yang Yey had always been blunt and outspoken. Hearing such sultry sounds, she immediately teased Tang Ling.
“Miss Tang, your tastes are really something. That’s practically restricted material. And tell me, if a recording or video like that were used against you and posted online, what would you do then? You really are careless!”
He Lu looked at Tang Ling seriously. “Miss Tang, I need you to tell me honestly. When you were with him, was there ever any video taken by someone else?”
Tang Ling’s pained expression twisted further. “When I was locked underground, someone blindfolded me. I don’t know whether they recorded any video of me. I hid my phone in a hidden place, and I would only take it out after he left.”
He Lu’s expression turned complicated. “Miss Tang, since your case involves someone from King Yi Group, I may need to report this to my superiors as well.
“And your personal safety is something I think we need to pay more attention to. If the other side comes back, the easiest thing for them to do is silence you by killing you.”
Tang Ling looked at him nervously. “Then what should I do?”
He Lu glanced at Fan Xiaoyou and Yang Yey. “Miss Fan, could you two take in Miss Tang for a while? Given her condition, she doesn’t need to remain in the hospital. As for our side, I’ll apply to have officers assigned here.”
And so Tang Ling moved in with Fan Xiaoyou and Feng Youru.
When Feng Youru saw Fan Xiaoyou bringing Tang Ling over, her face darkened.
“Xiaoyou, what do you think you’re doing? No matter how much compassion we have here, we’re not taking in a woman with a snake’s heart. Besides, our rooms are limited. I... I don’t want her making my room dirty.”
Seeing the awkwardness on Tang Ling’s face, Fan Xiaoyou knew that her self-esteem had been wounded yet again.
She took Tang Ling’s hand. “Don’t be upset, Ling. Youru is the kind of person who talks sharply but has a soft heart. She’ll be over it in no time.”
Feng Youru was genuinely surprised, and a little irritated, to see Fan Xiaoyou bring Tang Ling back. But surprise was useless, and anger changed nothing.
Even Fan Xiaoyou, the one who had been wronged, had forgiven Tang Ling without holding a grudge. What more could she, an outsider, really do?
Turning her back to them, Feng Youru said, “There are clean towels and toothbrushes in the bathroom cabinet. You can let Tang Ling use those. The bedding is in the balcony cabinet; she can take it herself.”
Fan Xiaoyou knew Feng Youru well. Her words were always sharp, but she was actually very warm-hearted. She just did not like showing her kindness in front of others.
Fan Xiaoyou smiled at Tang Ling. “Come in. Youru is a good person. She just loves and hates very clearly. Once you spend more time with her, you’ll understand.”
Tang Ling timidly said to Feng Youru’s back, “Thank you for taking me in.”
Feng Youru waved a hand with her usual flair. “If you want to thank anyone, thank Fan Xiaoyou. She’s the one who took you in. Since she treats you as a friend, then you’re my friend too. She’s forgiven you, so there’s no need for me to be so uptight.”
Tang Ling knew she had done many things in the past that had wronged Fan Xiaoyou, so she could understand Feng Youru’s attitude toward her.
She lowered her head humbly and said, “Thank you for treating me as a friend.”
Feng Youru turned around and smiled at her. “As expected of someone who’s seen the world. You talked your way around to me treating you as a friend so quickly. Fine, then. For Xiaoyou’s sake, I’ll reluctantly accept you as a friend.”
Seeing how constrained Tang Ling seemed, Fan Xiaoyou patted the back of her hand. “Relax, Ling. Just think of this place as your own home. Don’t be so stiff. Take it easy.”
After entering the room, Tang Ling’s brows slowly knit together.
He Lu’s words still echoed in her mind.
He wanted her to come forward and testify against Yu Xiaoyang, but her feelings were tangled beyond words.
Tang Ling only felt a sharp ache in her heart. She did not know when it had begun, but she had somehow fallen in love with Yu Xiaoyang. Logically, she should have hated him. And yet, no matter what happened, she could not bring herself to hate him.
Now she was caught in a dilemma.
Should she report him, or simply smile and let it all pass?
