Chapter 108: Changing One's Name
Chapter 108: Changing the Name
Fan Xiaoyou sighed softly, “Guo Cheng just called earlier, saying he’ll finish his work in the border city in a month and then settle down in Kang City.”
Yang Yeye didn’t understand why Fan Xiaoyou looked so troubled. Wasn’t Guo Cheng moving to Kang City a good thing? Why did Xiaoyou wear such a worried expression?
“Xiaoyou, isn’t it great that Guo Cheng is moving from the border city to Kang City? The fact that he’s willing to leave his circle and his life behind shows he’s truly committed to this relationship. Shouldn’t you be happy?”
Fan Xiaoyou shook her head, a hint of helplessness in her eyes, her heart tangled with conflicting emotions.
“I am glad Guo Cheng’s coming to Kang City, but when I think about him leaving his parents, leaving the familiar life he knows, uprooting himself to come find me, it just feels suffocating inside.”
Yang Yeye gently patted Fan Xiaoyou on the head. “You’re just overthinking things. This is clearly you creating troubles for yourself. By the way, I blackmailed your brother tonight—he’s buying dinner because of it!”
Fan Xiaoyou looked up at Yang Yeye’s beaming face, puzzled. “Hey, Yeye, my brother’s your husband. If you blackmail him for money, aren’t you just blackmailing yourself? That logic sounds weird!”
Yang Yeye ignored Fan Xiaoyou’s reasoning, smiling broadly.
“Well, he did hide everything from me. Just recently, I was complaining to you about how he quit his job and spent all day doing who knows what at home. And now suddenly, he’s the general manager of a branch of KINGYI Group. Looks like Rong Kai got lucky, stepped on dog poop and it turned into fortune.”
Fan Xiaoyou couldn’t help but laugh out loud at Yang Yeye’s words. “Yeye, I have something I want to suggest.”
Yang Yeye took a sip of her coffee and looked at Fan Xiaoyou. “We’re close, just say it!”
Fan Xiaoyou stirred her coffee with a spoon, hesitating before speaking.
“My brother is now the esteemed general manager of KINGYI’s Kang City branch. Maybe you should change your temper and personality a bit. As the general manager’s wife, maybe you should be more magnanimous, more poised.”
Yang Yeye touched her face and tugged at her suit jacket. “Sister, which eye did you see that I’m not magnanimous or poised?”
Fan Xiaoyou tugged at Yang Yeye’s sleeve. “With your behavior just now? Way too rough. I suggest you enroll in a socialite etiquette class. It would be perfect for prenatal education for your little one in your belly.”
Yang Yeye felt a bit down—her longtime best friend was telling her she wasn’t magnanimous or poised. “Xiaoyou, do I really need to take that class?”
Fan Xiaoyou studied Yang Yeye carefully and explained the pros and cons.
“Yes! I heard the KINGYI Kang City office is full of beautiful women. If you don’t improve your personal cultivation, my brother might stray. Before, he had no courage or opportunity, but now it’s different. He’s the general manager of the KINGYI Kang City branch, meeting more and more people. Surely the socialite ladies will flock to him. And as your belly grows bigger, well… men have needs in that regard…”
Fan Xiaoyou’s words weren’t alarmist. Ever since Tang Ling’s incident and Xiao Yang’s involvement, she wondered whether human nature swells and distorts when power reaches a certain level.
So when Fan Xiaoyou learned Rong Kai had become general manager of KINGYI Kang City, she didn’t know whether to feel happy or worried. Regardless, she was concerned about Rong Kai and Yang Yeye’s future relationship.
Though she knew her brother’s character well, that was the past.
Now Rong Kai was different—powerful, prestigious, seen as a rising young talent. He’d attend social events and high-society banquets, inevitably attracting noble ladies trying to entice him.
After hearing Fan Xiaoyou’s reasoning, Yang Yeye couldn’t help but feel it hit close to home. She looked at Fan Xiaoyou with diminished confidence. “Xiaoyou, do you think my name sounds too rustic paired with Rong Kai’s?”
Back in school, Fan Xiaoyou had suggested Yang Yeye change her name, but Yang Yeye had refused, saying, “Changing the name given by my parents would be deeply disrespectful to them!”
Fan Xiaoyou looked at her seriously. “What do you think? My personal suggestion is to choose a more elegant name.”
Yang Yeye was at a loss, helplessly grabbing Fan Xiaoyou’s hand. “Alright, I’ll listen to you, great writer. Help me come up with a name!”
Fan Xiaoyou examined Yang Yeye for a long moment. “The single character ‘Xuan’—it comes from the *Mu Tianzi Zhuan* where it says, ‘The emperor’s treasures: jade fruits, Xuan, pearls, silver candles, golden ointment.’ I think ‘Yang Xuan’ sounds great—easy to remember, pleasant to say, and meaningful.”
“My brother’s name has the character ‘Kai,’ and your new name has ‘Xuan.’ Together, they form a pun meaning ‘victory’ or ‘triumph.’”
“Yang Xuan? My great writer, you’re brilliant!”
Yang Yeye was so moved she threw her arms around Fan Xiaoyou, showering her with kisses until Fan Xiaoyou’s face was drenched in saliva.
“Miss Yang Xuan, mind your image! We just talked about this!” Fan Xiaoyou reminded her helplessly. She really worried that Yang Xuan’s carefree nature might later be the source of quarrels between her and Rong Kai.
With her new name, Yang Xuan was eager. “Come on, it’s still early. Let’s go home and get my household registration book to change my name!”
Fan Xiaoyou reminded her, “If you change the name on your household registration book, you’ll also have to change it on your marriage certificate with Rong Kai, and your birth permit. You probably can’t get it all done in one day. Maybe wait until after dinner with Rong Kai tonight and have him accompany you to do it properly. Wouldn’t that be more meaningful?”
Yang Xuan scratched her head sheepishly. “Xiaoyou, you’re right, you always think things through. It does make sense to go with Kai Zi. Otherwise, if I change the name on the household book but not the marriage certificate, I’d have to marry him all over again!”
Fan Xiaoyou burst out laughing. “You only just thought of that? I really can’t handle you. When will that rash personality of yours calm down? How can you manage being a general manager’s wife with such a wild temperament?”
Yang Xuan blushed, embarrassed, sipping her now lukewarm coffee, then choked. “Cough…” Fan Xiaoyou shot her a look of disdain.
Fan Xiaoyou said frankly, “Miss Yang Xuan, for the sake of your happiness, you must enroll in a socialite etiquette class.”
