Chapter 80: Time Will Tell

Wang Guocheng could sense the insincerity behind Wu Yang’s flattery. Holding Fan Xiaoyao possessively in his arms, he replied, “Thank you for your kind words. We’re already engaged.”

A hint of hatred flickered in Wu Yang’s eyes. He retorted at Fan Xiaoyao, “Engaged? That fast? TIM’s body is barely cold, Miss Fan. How devoted you are!”

Fan Xiaoyao’s fingernails dug into her flesh, tears circling in her eyes as she struggled to hold them back. “Wu Yang, what… what are you implying?”

Wang Guocheng tightened his embrace around her, soothing, “Xiaoyao, relax. Don’t let him get to you. We won’t stoop to his level.”

Wu Yang adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, eyes narrowing. “Not stooping to my level? When it comes to TIM and Miss Fan’s relationship, I have the most say. Because—”

He didn’t finish his sentence. Instead, he tossed a sheet of paper at Fan Xiaoyao. She picked it up from the floor, her face pale as she looked at him. “The GLT Company transfer deed?”

Wu Yang looked at her with contempt, his tone mocking, “Yes. TIM is gone, yet he still wanted to care for you, transferring fifty percent of GLT Company’s shares in Kangcheng to you. Miss Fan, you really are lucky. How is it you can gain fifty percent of GLT’s shares without lifting a finger? Do you realize that GLT Kangcheng holds fifty percent of GLT’s global shares? In other words, by owning half of Kangcheng’s GLT, you effectively hold half of GLT worldwide.”

Her hands shook as she held the deed. She handed it back to Wu Yang. “I won’t accept it. I didn’t earn it; I don’t need GLT’s shares…”

Wu Yang took the deed she’d thrown back, sneering, “Whether you accept it or not doesn’t matter. It’s already notarized in Country R. The deed is valid and legal. From now on, you’re a shareholder in Kangcheng’s GLT, enjoying full voting rights—Chairwoman Fan.”

That last “Chairwoman Fan” struck Fan Xiaoyao like a branding iron, burning her face.

Seeing Wu Yang’s intent to press further, Wang Guocheng quickly stepped forward, snatching the deed from Wu Yang’s hand and tearing it to shreds. “My patience has limits. To provoke my woman like this—is it because you think I can’t protect her?”

Wu Yang scoffed at Wang Guocheng’s intervention. “Mr. Wang—if I may call you that respectfully—take a good look in the mirror. How could a mere instructor like you protect her?”

Besides, it wasn’t my idea to give her the transfer deed; I’m just the messenger. And GLT shares aren’t a trivial matter—enough to ensure Miss Fan’s prosperity for a lifetime.”

Wang Guocheng blew the last scraps of paper into Wu Yang’s face. “Is that so? If you’re so enamored with those shares, why not keep them for yourself? Wu Yang, there’s no need to put on a show. All these theatrics tonight are just to provoke my wife into tearing up your deed, so that when it’s destroyed, you can claim your backup, and become the third-party transferee, right? Such childish tricks are beneath you.”

Wu Yang’s face turned ashen; he hadn’t expected his meticulous scheme to be seen through so easily. He coughed awkwardly, “Ahem… Perhaps you watch too much television, Mr. Wang. I have no such selfish motives.”

Wang Guocheng pressed closer, whispering in Wu Yang’s ear, “Wu Yang, keep your petty schemes to yourself. In the end, you’re the one who’ll lose. If you dare to target Xiaoyao, I won’t let you off. Try me if you don’t believe it.”

Wu Yang could sense that tonight, Wang Guocheng’s aura was unlike any other time. Unwilling to back down, he asked, “Who are you, really?”

Wang Guocheng patted Wu Yang’s shoulder. “You’re not qualified to know who I am. But take this warning: if you harbor any ill intentions toward Xiaoyao, I’ll find out. I trust you’re clever enough to know when to advance and when to retreat.”

With those words, Wang Guocheng put on a false smile, grasping Wu Yang’s hand like two old friends, which left Fan Xiaoyao bewildered.

When Wang Guocheng came over and gently took Fan Xiaoyao’s hand to lead her away, he whispered in her ear, “Don’t worry. He won’t trouble you anymore.”

Fan Xiaoyao still fretted about the deed she had just torn up. “But… won’t destroying the transfer deed affect GLT?”

Wang Guocheng tapped her nose affectionately. “You’re too inexperienced. Can’t you see through his false sincerity? That deed was a fake, nothing but a prop. The real transfer deed is in Wu Yang’s hands, and he’s already altered its contents because he wants to seize GLT’s shares. I don’t know the exact reason, but he’s become ambitious. Wu Yang is far more complicated than he seems.”

Fan Xiaoyao’s brows furrowed. “What? You mean Wu Yang has designs on GLT? How can that be? TIM did him a great favor, bringing him up as a trusted aide…”

Wang Guocheng sighed. “In the face of money, human nature loses itself. Lust for power is only natural. Wu Yang is hardly ordinary; he’s a ruthless player who hides his intentions well. Sadly, TIM misjudged him and let an ambitious wolf become his assistant!”

Fan Xiaoyao gazed at Wang Guocheng in fascination. “Guocheng, who are you really? How do you understand the business world so well? No ordinary instructor could handle these matters.”

Wang Guocheng took her hand, half in jest. “If I told you I’m the president of KINGYI Group, would you believe me?”

Fan Xiaoyao rolled her eyes, laughing. “President in imitation designer clothes? Mr. Wang, stop kidding. At least make up a believable identity!”

Wang Guocheng shook his head helplessly. “Ah, tell you the truth and you take it as a lie. Fine, I don’t even know who I am.”

Fan Xiaoyao looked at him with playful suspicion. “Mr. Wang, are you from the stars? From outer space, the galaxy, another dimension—or maybe you’re from…”

Wang Guocheng held her hand, his expression serious. “Xiaoyao, I’m from Border Town, a place of legends. There are deserts, oases, grasslands, mountains, lakes—earth’s most beautiful scenery. I am a Border Town native, from that place. Do you understand me? But I carry many secrets, hold many identities. In time, as we spend our lives together, you’ll slowly learn them all. Don’t expect to know everything at once. We have a lifetime ahead—a gentle stream, and time will tell.”
