Chapter 107: The Appointment in Cannes
Chapter 107: The Appointment in Kang City
After Xiao Jing left, Rong Kai, entrusted by Wang Guocheng, made a call to Yu Xiaoyang. “Hello, Yu Xiaoyang, this is Rong Kai, the newly appointed general manager of KINGYI Kang City branch. On behalf of President King, I am here to reinstate you as the marketing director of KINGYI after your rehabilitation.”
Yu Xiaoyang was taken aback. At the very moment when he was at the center of a storm and had just been dismissed by the KINGYI board, he could still remain within the group.
Feeling moved, Yu Xiaoyang thanked Rong Kai sincerely, “Thank you! Please convey my gratitude to President King!”
Rong Kai responded formally over the phone. Given Yu Xiaoyang’s previously poor reputation, Rong Kai harbored no personal favor towards him.
“Yu Xiaoyang, it would be best if you thank President King yourself. Alright, I’ve delivered the message. Wishing you a speedy recovery!”
Just as Rong Kai ended the call, Yang Yeye’s call came through on his phone.
On the line, Yang Yeye questioned sharply, “Rong Kai, what’s going on? How did you suddenly become the parachuted general manager of KINGYI’s Kang City branch?”
Rong Kai lowered his voice, speaking quietly to her, “Honey, I’m at work now. I’ll explain everything when I get home. I have a few meetings ahead, and you know Yu Xiaoyang caused a lot of trouble; I still have to deal with the aftermath.”
Yang Yeye had prepared a stern reprimand, but with just a few words, Rong Kai had coaxed her again.
She felt upset that Rong Kai was hiding things from her. In all their years of marriage, he had always been honest and open.
Unexpectedly, Rong Kai concealed his appointment as KINGYI’s general manager from her.
Feeling unsettled and a bit wronged, Yang Yeye said, “I’ll wait for your explanation. No matter how late it is today, I’ll wait. I want you to give me an explanation.”
Without waiting for Rong Kai to reply, she hung up. Rong Kai felt an unexplainable guilt toward her.
He sighed softly, “Yeye, there’s a reason I haven’t told you. It’s not that I want to hide things from you, it’s just unavoidable.”
After hanging up, Yang Yeye sneezed softly, “Ah-choo… Ah-choo…”
She tightened her coat, murmuring quietly, “Hope I’m not catching a cold.”
Yang Yeye took a leave from work and called Fan Xiaoyou. “Xiaoyou, are you free? Call You Ru, let’s meet up at Left Bank Café.”

Fan Xiaoyou was also surprised when she saw the morning news about Rong Kai’s appointment as the new general manager of KINGYI’s Kang City branch.
She remembered that not long ago, Yang Yeye had complained to her about Rong Kai quitting his previous job.
Yet, within just half a month, Rong Kai had risen swiftly to become CEO of KINGYI’s Kang City branch.
Fan Xiaoyou knew the real reason Yang Yeye wanted to meet. She glanced at her workload; it wasn’t too heavy. After briefing some colleagues, she went next door to the finance office to find Feng Youru.
“You Ru, did Yeye invite you for coffee? You didn’t invite anyone else, right?” Fan Xiaoyou asked cautiously.
Feng Youru glanced at her watch and apologized, “Xiaoyou, sorry, I have to finish a financial budget report. You and Yeye go ahead. I’ll call you when I’m done!”
Seeing You Ru was busy, Fan Xiaoyou didn’t linger and returned to her office to grab her bag before leaving the company.
On the way to meet Yang Yeye, Fan Xiaoyou received a call from Wang Guocheng. “Xiaoyou, have you eaten yet?”
Fan Xiaoyou was surprised to hear from Guocheng during work hours. “Guocheng, why are you calling me now? Isn’t this your working time?”
Wang Guocheng was tidying up his lesson plans as he chatted. “Just finished class. I have good news. I only have one month left teaching in Bian City; the school has agreed to release me!”
Fan Xiaoyou’s hand holding the phone froze. “Really? You’re really planning to leave Bian City? But your parents are there…”
Guocheng couldn’t reveal the full story yet. “Xiaoyou, don’t worry. I’ll handle everything properly.”
Fan Xiaoyou welcomed and looked forward to Guocheng coming to Kang City, but inside she felt conflicted.
She worried that Guocheng’s impulsive move from Bian City to Kang City might put her and Guocheng’s family at odds.
She recalled the last time Guocheng’s mother, Wang Lifengqin, called and they had a long, tense conversation.
Perhaps Wang Lifengqin’s words were a bit overbearing, but from her perspective, they weren’t unreasonable.
In other words, if Guocheng were her own son, she would feel uneasy if he abandoned his parents for love.
Seeing Fan Xiaoyou silent, Guocheng sighed, “Xiaoyou, I know what you’re worried about. I’ll explain things to my parents, trust me.”
“I’ve submitted my resignation in Bian City. It’s definite—I’m leaving. Now, just count the days until I arrive in Kang City.”
With Guocheng’s decision set, Fan Xiaoyou felt a thousand emotions but could only reply absentmindedly, “Okay.”

Yang Yeye arrived early at Left Bank Café. After looking around without seeing Fan Xiaoyou, she called her.
“Xiaoyou, I’m already at Left Bank Café. Where are you?”
Fan Xiaoyou was actually on the rooftop terrace upstairs, feeling the cold breeze.
When she saw it was Yang Yeye calling, she quickly answered, “Yeye, I’ll be there soon. Something came up on the way and delayed me.”
She hung up after speaking.
When she entered the café, Yang Yeye had already ordered her favorite cappuccino. “This is your favorite. Be good!”
Fan Xiaoyou forced a smile. “Thank you.”
Seeing Xiaoyou’s gloomy expression and troubled face, Yang Yeye asked with concern.
“What’s wrong? You look so worried. I was going to ask you to cheer me up, but it seems I have to cheer you up instead.”
Fan Xiaoyou looked troubled. “Guocheng called and said he’s already resigned in Bian City and told me to count the days until he comes to Kang City.”
“Yeye, I feel so conflicted. If Guocheng really comes to Kang City like this, I think his parents will hate me. I’ve basically stolen someone else’s son,” she said with a self-deprecating smile.
