When Xiao Ke noticed that Tang Ling was present, her expression grew displeased as she glanced at Tang Ling.
"Tang, Guocheng is a new recruit our company headhunted with great effort. It took us so much to bring in such talent, and yet you kept him waiting outside the door. What you did damages the reputation of our company."
As she spoke, Xiao Ke shot a furtive look at Wang Guocheng, feigning a troubled expression.
"Guocheng, why don’t you head back for now? We’ll discuss and get back to you. Our marketing department is truly in need of someone like you."
Before Tang Ling arrived, Xiao Ke had always been Yu Xiaoyang’s favorite. But since Tang Ling came, she’d seen Yu Xiaoyang become completely infatuated with her, and Xiao Ke’s heart was filled with jealousy.
She looked at Tang Ling, her eyes brimming with envy and resentment.
Wang Guocheng, ignoring the undercurrents between the three, glanced meaningfully at Yu Xiaoyang, his words carrying a double meaning.
"President Yu, since you’re busy, I won’t intrude any longer. I’ll trouble you to pay attention to my employment situation…"
Yu Xiaoyang caught the implication in Wang Guocheng’s words and felt a chill run down his spine. He looked at Wang Guocheng. "Alright, you may go."
After Wang Guocheng left, Yu Xiaoyang, right in front of Xiao Ke, called Tang Ling into his office.
Tang Ling walked in coquettishly, draping her delicate hand over Yu Xiaoyang’s shoulder with a flirtatious air.
Yu Xiaoyang brusquely pushed Tang Ling away, a trace of disgust in his eyes. He turned his back to her, standing behind his desk.
Tang Ling was bewildered. She had no idea why Yu Xiaoyang was giving her the cold shoulder. Carefully, she wrapped her arm around his, speaking in a sweet, childlike voice, "Darling, what’s wrong?"
Yu Xiaoyang’s face darkened. He pried Tang Ling’s hands off, his expression full of contempt.
"Still asking what’s wrong? Are you brainless, or do you just ignore everything I say? How many times have I told you to mind your boundaries? Not only did you eavesdrop, you even leaked information. Are you still thinking you can beg and whimper in front of me after betraying me?"

With that, Yu Xiaoyang brushed past Tang Ling’s attempts to stop him and directly called Scarbrother, with whom he had a rather close relationship.
"Scarbrother, long time no see. I have a beauty here who wants to pay her respects to you. Are you available? I’ll send her over in a bit."
Scarbrother, hearing that Yu Xiaoyang was sending someone over, smiled with satisfaction. In the past, whenever Yu Xiaoyang tired of a beauty, he always passed her on to Scarbrother.
Tang Ling herself had helped Yu Xiaoyang deliver a few women to Scarbrother. She had seen Scarbrother’s men before, but his face alone was enough to frighten her.
The mere thought of Scarbrother’s repulsive features sent a shudder through Tang Ling. In a panic, she fell to her knees at Yu Xiaoyang’s feet, groveling and begging.
"President Yu, I was wrong, I beg you, please don’t do this to me. After all, we were in love once… How could you send me to Scarbrother? He’s a monster…"
Yu Xiaoyang sneered, "A monster? How could that be? Scarbrother is always gentle with women. He’s inventive with his gentleness—you’ll barely have time to enjoy it all. Don’t say I didn’t warn you; you’d better be obedient with him, that way you’ll avoid unnecessary pain. He likes women who are docile, you understand?"
Meanwhile, Wang Guocheng had already returned to Fan Xiaoyou’s apartment. He carried in the Nanjing tofu pudding that the company staff had gone out early to buy, humming a little tune as he pushed open Xiaoyou’s bedroom door.
He found Fan Xiaoyou hunched over her laptop, typing away at her novel, and softly called out, "Darling, the Nanjing tofu pudding has arrived. Come and have a taste while it’s fresh!"
Fan Xiaoyou looked up at the grinning Wang Guocheng, then recalled the side profile of KINGYI.WANG she’d seen in the morning paper. On second thought, they didn’t look all that much alike.
With a smile, Fan Xiaoyou said, "You really went to great lengths, traveling all the way to Nanjing Town early in the morning just to get tofu pudding. Your devotion truly moves the heavens!"
Wang Guocheng replied somewhat sheepishly, "Isn’t there a saying about braving fire and water? What’s braving a little hot water for the woman I love? All I knew was that my fiancée was craving something, so I made a special trip just to bring her favorite dish right to her. Come on, it won’t taste as good once it’s cold!"
Fan Xiaoyou touched Wang Guocheng’s forehead, looking at him skeptically.
"Wang Guocheng, are you sure you’re not running a fever? Nanjing is over two hundred kilometers from Kang City. How could the tofu pudding still be hot after such a long trip? What’s your secret?"
Wang Guocheng seated Fan Xiaoyou at the dining table, then went into the kitchen and brought out the Nanjing tofu pudding he’d carried in.
The vessel for the tofu pudding was surprisingly refined. Fan Xiaoyou was amazed to see it placed in a layered, insulated soup tureen.

This particular kind of layered soup tureen was quite unlike any of the common insulated containers on the market. Its inner lining was wood, with a thick layer of insulation in the middle, and the outermost shell was made of purple clay.
Fan Xiaoyou had seen such tureens before and had once considered buying one, but abandoned the idea due to their steep price.
She nudged Wang Guocheng, looking him up and down, half-doubting his story.
"Why do you act like a nouveau riche at the drop of a hat? This soup tureen is expensive. Did you win some kind of prize or something?"
Wang Guocheng ladled out the tofu pudding from the tureen and set it before Fan Xiaoyou, making up a story as he spoke.
"Xiaoyou, you really need to rein in your imagination. I honestly had no idea what a layered soup tureen even was. The shop owner gave it to me. He was so moved by my devotion and sincerity that he just had to give me this tureen as a gift."
"Wow, what a generous person! You bought a tofu pudding for less than a hundred yuan, and he gave you a tureen worth thousands? Is the owner crazy, or did he just fall for you…" Fan Xiaoyou grinned at Wang Guocheng.
Wang Guocheng tapped Xiaoyou’s head affectionately. "Xiaoyou, it’s fine to have a wild imagination, but don’t get too lost in your fictional worlds. Too much imagination isn’t always a good thing; you need a little bit of real life. Couldn’t it just be fate that the owner gave me the tureen?"
Pushing up her glasses, Fan Xiaoyou sipped the tofu pudding, then called out her grievances to Wang Guocheng.
"I’d love to have more real-life inspiration. I’d like to write about reality, but realistic stories are easily censored. I don’t want to invite trouble or get locked out of my account every other day. That’s why I write CEO romances—they’re set in alternate realities, the characters are fictional, and no one can take offense. If anyone dared write about real big shots, the legal trouble alone would keep me busy for ages. So, I weave these tangled love stories, giving my little readers something to dream of—making them yearn for love and hope for romance. That, in itself, is a truly meritorious deed."
