Chapter Seventy: Not Involved
Leading the group was a woman, about twenty-three or twenty-four years old, standing roughly one meter seventy with a striking figure. She wore a fitted black combat suit, a long black blade strapped to her back. Her hair was cropped short, sharp and clean; her features were exquisitely beautiful.
A quiet composure emanated from her, and though her steps were unhurried, an oppressive aura seemed to follow her. Her presence was resolute, yet beneath her left eye rested a single black beauty mark, a tear-shaped mole that lent her a hint of sensuality amid her strength, stirring hearts simply by her appearance.
Even Fang Mu found himself momentarily stunned. She was a woman whose toughness was laced with an ineffable allure.
Fang Mu’s gaze swept the group and paused again, recognizing another familiar face—behind the short-haired woman trailed a languid figure. Her hair, as dark as a waterfall, was tied carelessly in a ponytail; her phoenix-shaped eyes half-lidded, exuding casual indifference.
This was the very silver-ranked female gunfighter who, outside the city that day, had taken down six Greed Wolf berserkers in succession with her sniper rifle.
So she truly was from Celestial Palace, Fang Mu mused inwardly.
“Sister Qin!” the young girl exclaimed, calling out to the woman with short hair.
The woman nodded and replied, “I heard Chen Ting brought people to the field hospital, so I came to check on things. Is Hatsune alright?”
“She’s fine. He tried to enter, but I stopped him. Fu Hui is inside watching over her,” the girl answered, casting an angry glare at Chen Ting.
“Captain Qin,” Chen Ting greeted politely, bowing slightly.
The woman glanced at him and nodded back with equal courtesy. “I didn’t expect Captain Chen would have the leisure to come here.”
Chen Ting met her gaze, undeterred despite being alone and facing a crowd. He sighed softly. “Because of a misunderstanding, both sides have suffered heavy losses these past days. I wanted to meet with you to clear things up, but Miss Qin blocked my contact… With no other option, I heard Miss Lin is recuperating here, so I tried my luck. And indeed, I found you.”
The woman gently shook her head. “This isn’t a misunderstanding, nor can it be resolved. I’m afraid your visit is in vain. If there’s nothing else, please be on your way.”
Though her words were polite, she was clearly dismissing him.
Chen Ting regarded her, then sighed. “Captain Qin, truly, is there no room for compromise?”
The woman gave a slight nod, her expression neither angry nor resolute.
Chen Ting fell silent. After a moment, he nodded gently. “I see… Understood. In that case, I’ll take my leave. May Miss Lin awaken soon and be out of danger. Farewell.”
With that, he nodded toward the girl who glared at him, then decisively turned and strode away.
His silhouette quickly vanished from sight. The girl watched him go, gritting her teeth and huffing coldly, “Now he knows fear—where was that before? Sister Qin, my wounds are almost healed. Next time we fight Greed Wolf, I want to join!”
The short-haired woman watched Chen Ting’s departing figure, silent for a moment before speaking calmly, “Chen Ting isn’t simple. In a few years, he made Greed Wolf one of the four major corps. There’s a reason for that. His visit likely has deeper motives. Don’t let your guard down. Everyone, be cautious in the coming actions.”
The girl paused, then nodded softly.
“Come, let’s check on Hatsune,” said the woman, turning toward the corridor’s depths. The others hurried after her.
As they passed several wards, the injured inside watched them with respectful awe, not daring to act out.
“That’s the Celestial Palace captain… Qin Hongyu, right?”
“Tsk, no wonder Celestial Palace is famous… I’ve heard their leadership is full of beauties. Today I finally see it for myself…”
“Indeed. Qin Hongyu, the battlefield’s foremost female berserker. Lin Hatsune, the leading female heavy blade. Luo Yu, the top female boxer. Leng Xiran, the best female gunner… Tsk, each one is a rare beauty…”
“Quit staring, your eyes are about to fall out. These are all gold-ranked elites! Make them angry and you’ll end up with your brains bashed in. Haven’t you heard about Greed Wolf’s predicament?”
“All I can say is, Greed Wolf’s leadership must be out of their minds. Chen Ting might be famous as the battlefield’s number one berserker… but does he know how many allies Celestial Palace has? This time, Blood Sakura and Dragon Slayer are said to have joined the hunt…”
Fang Mu listened to the quiet murmurs, watching Qin Hongyu and the Celestial Palace group disappear into a room at the corridor’s end…
So Lin Hatsune is in that ward now?
Fang Mu stood in silent contemplation for a moment, then shook his head.
Why think so much? He’d already done enough. His decision to save her was simply to act without regret.
He had no intention of seeking protection, nor was he used to relying on others.
As for the conflict between Celestial Palace and Greed Wolf…
“Let the great corps clash as they will. I’m just a nobody; I won’t get involved.”
With that thought, Fang Mu turned and returned to his own ward…
…
…
In the blink of an eye, two days passed.
Though he knew Lin Hatsune’s ward wasn’t far, Fang Mu had no intention of visiting her.
After two days of observation, confirming no signs of rejection, Fang Mu prepared to leave the hospital.
He had already registered his identity at the lobby downstairs, and the money originally tied to his bed number had been transferred to his personal account.
Seeing a six-digit balance, Fang Mu was in high spirits… All for a single handgun. His gains this time were considerable.
After changing into his own clothes and settling accounts at the front desk, Fang Mu walked out through the hospital doors.
Stretching leisurely, he headed straight for the hovercar station.
Now, it was time to turn his spoils into star coins…
“The gene bullet mustn’t be touched. It’s priceless, exceedingly rare, and will surely be useful later… Besides, Greed Wolf is definitely eyeing it. Selling it now would be walking right into their trap—telling them I ruined their plans?”
The gene bullet could kill a gold-ranked fighter!… It was his trump card, and Fang Mu had no intention of letting it go.
“The free market is a second-hand market… but this time, the goods are all tainted. Firearms are easier to sell, but the Dragon Scale Blade is troublesome. Each one supposedly has a unique serial number… If a black iron-ranked nobody sells a Dragon Scale Blade in the second-hand market, it’s basically announcing himself… I’ll need to study this carefully.”
Firearms, after all, were just D-series. On a one-star battlefield, they were plentiful.
But the Dragon Scale Blade was different… nearly exclusive to gold-ranked fighters! Only a handful of the truly wealthy could afford one otherwise…
If he put it up for public sale—
He might as well shout from a loudspeaker that he was the one who ruined Greed Wolf’s operation.
He really needed to think this through.
Lost in thought, Fang Mu walked to the station. The hovercar arrived, and he stepped aboard…
