Chapter Forty-Two: A Sister by Convenience Is Still a Sister
The small hill was more than five kilometers away from the battlefield. Yet the standard D-785 scope was a thirty-two times optical magnifier. In other words, a meter in the lens equated to thirty-two meters in reality. From five kilometers away, the view in the scope was as if only a little over 150 meters separated them. At such a distance, ordinary eyesight could barely discern features, but Fang Mu was a Black Iron Evolver. After his evolution, his vision had improved remarkably; not only could he see clearly at over a hundred meters, but even at two hundred meters, he could make out faces with ease.
So, when he saw the woman wielding the heavy blade through the scope, he was momentarily stunned. He had recognized her at once—
His “half-sister”—
Lin Chuyin.
He didn’t know much about Lin Chuyin. The first time she appeared before him, she acted aloof and superior, bringing many expensive resources with her, all of which Fang Mu refused. Since then, she had never shown herself to him again.
But that first impression had been so indelible that, now, he recognized her in a single glance.
“I never expected her to be a Golden-tier Heavy Blade wielder.”
He knew the Lin family was powerful, and as a direct descendant, Lin Chuyin surely enjoyed exceptional resources. But he hadn’t imagined she was a Golden-tier Evolver.
Golden-tier—the pinnacle of the One-Star battlefield! Across the whole field, Golden-tier Evolvers could be counted by hand; likely fewer than a hundred.
Who could have guessed she was one of them?
Fang Mu’s feelings were complicated.
And to think that someone as slender as her would choose the “Heavy Blade” profession—a role so drastically at odds with her image.
Heavy Blade was the “shield” of a team, typically the most dangerous position, for during battle, Heavy Blades always stood at the forefront.
Heavy Blades lacked the speed of Berserker Blades and the agility of Martial Fighters, possessing instead tremendous strength and robust physiques.
Thus, Heavy Blade wielders were almost always men—those naturally strong but not particularly nimble.
Female Heavy Blades were exceedingly rare.
After all, women were at a natural disadvantage in terms of strength.
Yet Lin Chuyin was a female Heavy Blade?
This truly exceeded Fang Mu’s expectations.
Watching the slender Lin Chuyin in the scope, wielding a giant blade taller than herself as easily as waving a stalk of straw, standing her ground against the Golden Savage Ironwing without faltering—Fang Mu’s expression involuntarily twitched.
He couldn’t help but recall her cold voice, so at odds with her violent, battle-hardened form now.
But soon, he let out a slow breath, his brows knitting.
“So, the target of the Greedy Wolf is her organization…”
Fang Mu’s gaze shifted to the Greedy Wolf members still advancing slowly nearby.
---
The shot just fired was from over four or five kilometers away—neither the Greedy Wolf nor Lin Chuyin’s people could possibly hear it.
However, Fang Mu guessed the Gun Fighters in the glacial crevice would soon contact the Greedy Wolf vanguard. Once they realized their position had been exposed, they would likely accelerate their actions.
At this thought, Fang Mu pressed his lips together.
Admittedly, his feelings toward Lin Chuyin were not favorable; she had always looked down on him, her words laced with barbs and mockery.
But still… they shared a mother.
A poor relationship was one thing, but if he knew she was in mortal danger and did nothing… Fang Mu couldn’t reconcile it with his conscience.
A half-sister may be just a half-sister…
But she was still his sister!
Why let someone else ambush her?
Especially when her ambusher was Greedy Wolf, who had tried to kill him time and again.
At this thought, Fang Mu hesitated no longer. His gaze sharpened, scope trained—
Wind speed, distance, air humidity…
Every element of shooting appeared crystal clear in his mind.
Perhaps it was just his imagination, but since training in the “Original Energy Spirit Refining Technique,” things he once needed time to calculate now surfaced in his mind almost instinctively.
Once everything was set, he exhaled softly, his gaze resolute.
“Let’s hope you’re quick-witted enough to catch on.”
With that, he didn’t hesitate. Suddenly, he squeezed the trigger!
Boom!
The gunshot thundered.
A streak of crimson light shot forth, invisible to the naked eye, racing toward the distant target…
The moment the shot left the barrel, Fang Mu spun around without hesitation, facing the glacial crevice. He frowned, retrieved a small mirror and an entrenching tool from his spatial armament, tore a piece of cloth from his clothing, and began fixing the mirror…
Had the target been someone Fang Mu didn’t know, after the shot—regardless of the outcome—it would have been over; he would have left this place without a second thought.
But having discovered it was Lin Chuyin…
His expression soured, but he could not simply walk away…
He could do little for the close-quarters fighters, but with these Gun Fighters… he believed he could help.
He was convinced the Greedy Wolf wouldn’t have stationed four snipers in the glacial crevice just to spectate.
They must be capable of providing support…
Perhaps even directly threatening a Golden-tier presence!
Though he hadn’t yet figured out exactly how they would act, disrupting them, keeping them from aiming with ease, surely couldn’t be wrong…
---
After all, this was a sniper kill from more than five kilometers away.
Under such circumstances, even the slightest disturbance…
Could throw off the aim…
…
…
“Deputy Captain, Group Six is out of ammo!”
“Group Seven as well!”
“All ammunition has been expended!”
The rapid reports from group leaders sounded in her headset, Lin Chuyin’s brows furrowing.
After such prolonged suppressive fire, finally, all their ammunition was gone.
In a few more minutes, the firepower would cease.
But seeing how the Golden Savage Beast before her had weakened, especially as Fu Hui’s attacks now took much longer to heal, Lin Chuyin gritted her teeth, sensing the moment was near.
She quickly commanded, “Those without ammo, fall back. Silver Group, prepare to take the front. It’s almost finished! …Fu Hui, Luo Yu!”
She called out.
“Understood!”
“Leave it to me.”
Luo Yu’s crisp voice rang out, accompanied by a slightly deep male voice.
They were the other two Golden-tier Evolvers on the team… Luo Yu and Fu Hui.
Lin Chuyin took a deep breath, knowing the critical moment had arrived. With ammunition gone and no suppressive fire, the beast had been worn down enough. Now, they needed to strike like thunder, crippling the Golden Savage Beast in an instant, then finishing it off.
But such an attack was terrifying, consuming vast amounts of genetic energy.
Once unleashed, the three Golden-tiers might lose the ability to act for a while.
So it had to be used with utmost caution.
Fortunately, all those she brought were trusted confidants; she had no fear of their exhaustion. As long as they succeeded in killing the Golden Savage Beast… even a period of weakness would be worthwhile!
With this in mind, Lin Chuyin’s eyes shone with fierce brilliance. Her hands began to glow with dazzling white light, terrifying genetic energy surging wildly.
She was about to unleash her strongest genetic combat skill. After this blow, even the Golden Savage Beast would be paralyzed for a moment… which would give Luo Yu and Fu Hui the perfect opportunity to strike!
The radiance grew stronger, even spreading to her giant blade. Her pupils themselves began to shine with blinding white light…
