Chapter Thirty-Nine: Disrupt Their Rhythm
As Chang Le and the other gunfighters around him focused intently, determined to risk everything for their captain’s promise, Fang Mu behind them was also working his mind at full speed.
“The external fire has been suppressing for so long, which means my suspicion is most likely correct—they must be hunting a gold-tier creature. Otherwise, the barrage wouldn’t have lasted this long.”
“These people from Greedy Wolf are sneaky, almost certainly here to kill and loot. Their division of labor is clear; these gunfighters are probably waiting for the critical moment to support the melee evolvers from earlier… But if their opponents dare to hunt a gold-tier creature, that means they must have gold-tier individuals among them. Against gold-tier opponents, these gunfighters… likely won’t be much help.”
He had further doubts swirling in his mind.
The genetic vitality of gold-tier evolvers was fearsome—he hadn’t witnessed it personally, but had heard stories. Ordinary firearms were useless, and even gunfighting techniques would be ineffective unless the gunfighter’s own genetic energy met a certain standard. Others might not know this, but having followed the group all the way, Fang Mu could judge… Chang Le was most likely only a bronze-tier evolver.
A bronze-tier gunfighter, even with gunfighting techniques, could not pose much threat to a gold-tier evolver.
So why did Greedy Wolf’s people arrange such precautions? Could there be a silver-tier among these gunfighters?
Fang Mu looked at the gunfighters, but their evolutionary level was impossible to discern from their appearance alone.
Then, Fang Mu furrowed his brow, deep in thought.
He himself was a gunfighter, and he knew that in this situation, their best course was to wait… wait for the critical moment.
So these gunfighters were very unlikely to open fire randomly. Once they did, it would mean a turning point had emerged below.
“Greedy Wolf is so well-prepared, and their plans are meticulous… If I keep waiting, there may not be a good opportunity. Once their operation ends, I might not even have time to look for an opening… Hmm…”
Fang Mu’s frown deepened as he glanced at the gunfighters in the distance. His position was awkward; he couldn’t see the situation outside at all.
After some deliberation, Fang Mu exhaled softly, his gaze sharpening.
No! He couldn’t let them proceed so smoothly according to their rhythm—he had to find a way to disrupt their tempo!
As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend…
No matter who those people being targeted by Greedy Wolf were, at this moment they stood on the same front as him. He didn’t need them to truly regard him as a friend… but at least, during his attempt to kill Chang Le, those people would, to some extent, offer him some help…
With this thought, Fang Mu’s eyes narrowed.
Help could be passive or active.
He believed that as long as the others realized Greedy Wolf was plotting against them, they would ‘help’ as he intended.

He could not passively wait any longer.
With this in mind, his gaze swept quickly around.
First, this position was unworkable. At two hundred meters, he could kill one, but would instantly be killed by the remaining three. With his insufficient evolutionary level, escape was impossible.
He had to leave this place first!
But surveying his surroundings, Fang Mu paused to consider.
They were currently wedged in the crevice between two icebergs. Layers of crystalline ice pillars connected the area, making it look complex, but in truth, there was only one exit… If he wanted to leave directly, he’d have to pass through the sights of the gunfighters’ muzzles.
Fang Mu would not choose such a path.
“No choice but to take the long way around,” he thought.
He didn’t hesitate further, moving silently, eyes fixed on the gunfighters, and began to retreat quietly toward the entrance.
Outside, gunfire thundered on. The gunfighters remained entirely absorbed in the battle ahead, paying no attention to Fang Mu behind them.
Thus, after more than ten minutes, he successfully exited the iceberg crevice, returning to the entrance.
Once he had left the icy fissure, Fang Mu let out a long breath, glanced around, and then suddenly accelerated, running along the base of the right-side iceberg.
“Hopefully, I’ll make it in time.”
The iceberg was immense, and circling it would take several kilometers. But for safety, the extra distance was worth it.
So, beneath the towering ice, a lone figure could be seen sprinting at impressive speed…
…
…
“Deputy commander, group three is out of ammo!”
“Group five is out of ammo!”
Under the Flying Snow Cliff, battle raged like wildfire. Gunfire and explosions echoed, while Lin Chuyin’s earpiece relayed constant reports.
“Groups three and five, fall back and resupply. Groups nine and thirteen, move up… Maintain your firing rhythm!”
With a shriek, the golden fierce bird struck again, its iron wings slashing toward them. Lin Chuyin gritted her teeth, genetic energy surging throughout her body. She raised her heavy blade horizontally, using it like a shield.

Boom!!!
Iron wings smashed against the heavy blade.
Wild force rippled through the area.
She staggered back two steps, but the golden fierce bird was also forced to retreat.
Out of the corner of her eye, Luo Yu charged in, fists crackling with thunder as she struck, pushing the golden fierce bird back once more. Lin Chuyin caught her breath and quickly spoke.
There were two fierce birds; one was severely wounded and still in its nest atop the mountain. The other had finally been forced out, and Lin Chuyin was determined not to let it go.
Even if all the ammunition brought this time was spent, it would be worth it.
Because if they failed now, the entire operation would be lost.
Fortunately, Lin Chuyin was always steady in her actions, and this time they had brought ample ammunition. Each person carried at least fifty thousand rounds. Even after a major battle, they still had ammo left.
But now, that remaining ammunition had to be used sparingly—not recklessly as in the first clash. They had to fire with rhythm, driving back the bronze and silver-tier creatures while also suppressing the gold-tier beast.
The gene rounds were already depleted; she had brought only one this time. Now, to kill the golden fierce bird, there was only one way… wear it down!
As long as they could exhaust the creature’s genetic energy, then together with Luo Yu and Fu Hui, she still had a chance to kill it!
Once this one fell, the wounded golden fierce bird in the nest would be theirs for the taking.
In such a situation, how could Lin Chuyin give up?
“Damn, the battlefield creature’s genetic energy is so immense—it’s only now showing the slightest fatigue. I wonder if the ammo will last until its energy is drained…”
Lin Chuyin pondered.
But with the arrow already drawn, there was no turning back. She could only do her best.
Everyone, under Lin Chuyin’s command, worked methodically and focused, killing enemies and suppressing the gold-tier creature. None noticed that, across the icy plains behind them, a group was quickly and cautiously approaching.
A murderous intent, thick and palpable, radiated from their ranks…
