The era of genetic development had advanced to this point, yet the human body still harbored countless secrets. No one had ever truly unraveled the truth behind evolution.

Fang Mu’s cultivation technique was extraordinary; by consuming the flesh and blood of battlefield creatures, he could quickly restore the genetic energy he had expended… Yet, when it came to further improvement, his speed seemed rather ordinary.

Unaware of how slow conventional cultivation techniques actually were—since he had never practiced any—Fang Mu could not appreciate just how astonishing his progress was. In just a few days, he had increased his total genetic energy by a full twenty percent, a speed ordinary people could hardly imagine.

But Fang Mu didn’t know this, so he felt his progress was slow.

As a result, he decided to try buying some genetic agents.

Five million—surely that would be enough to buy quite a lot?

Such thoughts occupied his mind.

There were many shops selling genetic agents, and Fang Mu found one on the third floor of the mall.

It was a large chain store called “Genetic Leap.” The name was self-explanatory.

Business was brisk, with people coming and going. Fang Mu entered and saw rows upon rows of exquisite bottles, each filled with liquids of different colors.

These were the genetic agents.

There were various types—some enhanced abilities, some healed, some restored energy, and so on. The grades varied as well.

The highest grade available in the Level One Battlefield was Series C, meant for Gold-rank Evolvers. However, these were extremely rare—when Fang Mu inquired, there was none in stock at all.

The most common was Series E, designed for Iron-rank Evolvers, primarily extracted from the genetic energy essence of Bronze-rank battlefield creatures.

What Fang Mu wanted was the Series E enhancement agent.

When he asked about the price, he was stunned—

One bottle: six hundred eighty thousand!

And this was just the lowest-grade Series E enhancement agent!

A single bottle cost as much as a Series E sniper rifle.

Then, when he asked about Series D…

Fang Mu was left speechless.

Six million eight hundred thousand…

So, five million was almost nothing at all…

His sense of reality was swiftly adjusted.

He didn’t even know how effective these agents were yet, but after some thought, he gritted his teeth and bought two bottles. Instantly, over a million and three hundred thousand was gone, just like that.

The two slender, pale blue glass vials, each barely the width of a finger, were nestled in an ornate wooden box. The genetic agent inside—barely enough for a single mouthful.

Just this one mouthful cost six hundred eighty thousand…

Fang Mu shook his head helplessly.

No wonder only the wealthy could afford genetic agents—ordinary people simply had no way to use them.

In the end, he put the agents away.

Of his five million, less than three million remained.

Five million! Not five hundred!

But spending over a million here felt no different from spending five hundred on a whim.

Walking out of Genetic Leap, Fang Mu could only laugh bitterly and shake his head.

He dared not browse any further.

He was afraid he wouldn’t be able to control himself.

There were plenty of good things here—the shop next door sold weapons, and beyond that, countless other dazzling products. To be honest, Fang Mu was tempted by all of them, eager to buy.

But if he did…

His remaining three million would vanish in an instant.

With great effort, he tore himself away from the mall, took a hovercar, and returned to his rented apartment.

There, he could hardly wait to take out the genetic enhancement agents.

The truly wealthy all used agents to boost their genetic energy. Only when the quantity could no longer be improved would they risk their lives on the battlefield to make a breakthrough.

If the human body were likened to a vessel, ordinary people would be like clay pots—refined through hard work, they might become small cups. Genetic energy was the water inside.

Consuming battlefield creatures’ flesh and blood was like adding water drop by drop. Taking genetic agents, however, was like turning on a tap and letting water pour in—naturally, the speed was worlds apart.

Yet, the size of the vessel determined that, even with a tap, only so much water could be added.

If one wanted more water?

The vessel itself had to be enlarged.

The process of obtaining a larger vessel was the process of breaking through the limits of life.

No external force could help with this; it was something only the individual could achieve.

The metaphor wasn’t perfect, since the strength of genetic energy changed dramatically with each evolutionary leap, and so on…

Life’s evolution was multifaceted, impossible to encapsulate with a mere “cup” and “water” analogy.

But for the specific use of genetic agents, the metaphor fit well enough.

Fang Mu’s current situation was this: he had acquired a cultivation technique of unknown grade—so powerful it must be beyond imagining. His “cup” was naturally many times larger than others.

But now, his cup was not yet full. He needed to rely on genetic agents to fill it first.

Only then could he talk about advancing further.

Exhaling softly, Fang Mu sat down on the floor, took out a vial of genetic agent, unsealed the meticulously crafted cap, took a deep breath, and poured the contents—just a finger’s breadth—into his mouth.

Yes, genetic agents could simply be swallowed.

The taste was surprisingly pleasant—a faint, refreshing sweetness.

As Fang Mu expected, one vial was just enough for a single mouthful.

Gulp—

He swallowed it down and sat cross-legged on the floor, recalling the path of his cultivation technique in his mind as he entered meditation.

After barely a dozen seconds…

Boom!

A surge of genetic energy erupted from his abdomen. Fang Mu immediately activated the circulation method of the “Genetic Divine Refinement Record.”

The potent genetic energy instantly spread throughout his body.

With his eyes closed tightly, his skin gradually took on a reddish hue.

It was as if flames were burning within him…

This session lasted a full half hour.

When it ended, Fang Mu opened his eyes.

A flash of blood-red light flickered in the depths of his gaze and vanished. The flush on his face had faded. He sat stunned for a moment—then, a smile broke across his face.

He could feel it—his entire world had changed once more. His vision was clearer, his senses sharper, his strength more formidable, and most importantly, his genetic energy was now vastly greater.

Sensing within himself…

“One vial of genetic agent actually doubled my genetic energy!”

Thanks to possessing a “Blazing Fire” genetic seed, he could accurately quantify the amount of energy inside him.

Before taking the agent, he could use “Blazing Fire” about thirteen times.

Now, he could clearly sense—he could use it more than twenty-six times!

To think, ordinary Evolvers who had just reached Iron-rank could only use “Blazing Fire” twice!

Even after their “cup” had filled with more “water,” ten times would be considered remarkable!

But now, he could use it twenty-six times!

More crucially…

He was nowhere near his “cup’s” limit!

Fang Mu’s eyes brightened instantly. Without hesitation, he took out the second vial and downed it in one go.

He sat cross-legged again and resumed his cultivation.

It didn’t take long before his face flushed red once more.

The genetic agent was taking effect…
