“Mad! Mad! You’re all mad!” The doctor shouted hoarsely.

Watching those approaching him with malicious intent, the doctor was utterly despairing. He had never expected that some bizarre creature could frighten this group of wealthy people so much that they abandoned the last shred of humanity. Yet the more he raged, the stronger their resolve to kill him became.

It wasn’t long before the three of them were thrown overboard from the ship, their chances of survival negligible.

After killing three people, the rich men recovered a sliver of rationality. They began to find it hard to believe what they had done. Had they really killed three innocent ordinary people without any evidence? But mankind’s greatest trait is to shift blame after making mistakes, and so they began to think of a “better” explanation. Who said those three were definitely ordinary people? Their behavior was so abnormal; perhaps they really were bizarre creatures in disguise.

But this slaughter targeting the servants was only beginning.

The entire process of the mother and daughter and the doctor being thrown into the sea had been witnessed by Baidiao. Yet, afraid of the strange creature, she had stayed hidden in the darkness, silently watching everything unfold, never making a move.

She held her mouth, trying not to make any discordant sound, yet tears still spilled uncontrollably from the corners of her eyes.

Why had she become a Ghost Handler?

It wasn’t just her—every human who became a Ghost Handler was entrusted with the mission to protect ordinary people. She had started out that way too, but somewhere along the line her heart changed. She began to act solely for money, solely for her own interests, becoming so indifferent that she could do anything to survive.

She began to regulate her breathing, slowly closing her eyes, trying to forget everything that had happened here.

But every time she closed her eyes, she seemed to see the despair on the little girl’s face before she was thrown into the sea.

“No, no!”

Again and again she told herself the little girl’s death had nothing to do with her, but did it really?

Perhaps because her emotions had been so taut, she ended up falling into a deep sleep.

Who knew how much time had passed before she was awakened by an overwhelming stench of blood.

“What’s that smell?” Baidiao frowned, clearly displeased.

But then she remembered what had happened before and was immediately filled with fear.

Could the bizarre creature have gone on a killing spree while she slept?

But when she felt with her senses, she found there were still many living people, so she rushed out.

Arriving on the deck, she was utterly stunned.

Corpses lay scattered everywhere, and from their clothing it was clear these were the ship’s servants.

She stared wide-eyed in disbelief at the scene before her.

Just then, a voice suddenly sounded behind her.

“You… you’re a Ghost Handler, aren’t you?”

She turned to see the bespectacled man from earlier, his eyes wild and deranged.

His face and hands were smeared with fresh blood, his blood-red hands clutching a dagger, which was equally stained scarlet.

Blood dripped from the blade, gathering on the deck into a small river, flowing straight to Baidiao’s feet.

She stared at him in shock, unable to speak.

But the bespectacled man smiled. “Quick, tell me—were these people disguised as bizarre creatures?”

His smile was bleak, almost forced, but Baidiao saw expectation and hope in his eyes.

“They… they…”

She had only just begun to speak when the man started edging closer, his expression growing stranger by the moment.

As a Ghost Handler, Baidiao actually felt a twinge of fear toward this ordinary person, and that fear kept growing.

Finally, she couldn’t endure it any longer.

“They were all ordinary people, you lunatic—no, murderer!”

The bespectacled man instantly froze.

His neck twisted mechanically as he stared at the corpses in the blood, then cried out in alarm.

“Ah!”

But soon he hung his head.

“That’s impossible, they were definitely bizarre creatures!”

As he spoke, several others, equally bloodstained and holding knives, approached, all fixing her with strange gazes.

“So you’re not a Ghost Handler, which means you’re a bizarre creature in disguise.”

Seeing their eyes, Baidiao knew they were completely mad.

She wanted to leave, but found herself surrounded.

At this moment, she felt acutely that perhaps what she faced was no longer human, but bizarre creatures.

“Are you all mad? I’m a Ghost Handler, not a bizarre creature! Let me go!”

“Brothers! Did you see? She reacts just like those bizarre creatures we killed—they all say they aren’t bizarre creatures.”

“Right, right, turns out all bizarre creatures are the same!”

“Quick… kill her!”

Baidiao’s face twitched uncontrollably. Then she spread her hands: “I am a bizarre creature.”

Perhaps this would set her apart from the others.

“See! She admitted it!”

Now the rich men had no more scruples and rushed at Baidiao.

But Baidiao was a Grade C bizarre creature, and with energy enveloping her, how could these ordinary people with weapons possibly harm her?

After a while, Baidiao grew exasperated and shoved one aside.

“All of you, wake up! Look at what you’ve done! None of those you killed were bizarre creatures. Bizarre creatures can’t be killed so easily!”

Her words exploded in their minds like a bomb.

They stared at their hands in disbelief.

Thinking of what they’d just done, they couldn’t help but feel sick, wanting to vomit.

“I’m telling you, bizarre creatures absolutely cannot be killed by normal means, nor do they bleed. You killed living, breathing people—real lives!”

The bespectacled man went completely mad.

“So none of those before were bizarre creatures, and you aren’t either—then who is?”

He glanced at the others, his smile turning chilling. “I understand now, I understand!”

His grin grew sinister. “You… you must be bizarre creatures, right? If not, let me kill you—if you can be killed, that proves you aren’t bizarre creatures.”

With that, he strode toward someone.

But before he’d gone a few steps, he stopped; turning to look, he saw a middle-aged man holding a short blade, which he had plunged into the bespectacled man’s heart.

“Hah, hahahaha!” The bespectacled man slowly knelt to the ground, staring at his demonic reflection in the blood. “I… am not a bizarre creature!”

Muttering to himself, he collapsed, losing all signs of life.
