Chapter Sixty-Two: The Gates of the Netherworld Are About to Open
In the blink of an eye, Wang Xinnian was writhing on the ground in agony, clawing at his own face and leaving deep, terrifying scratches across his cheeks. The other ghost tamers were at a loss, powerless to intervene, and could only watch helplessly.
Someone glanced at One-Eye, knowing that the strange entity within him had once lost control as well. “Haven’t you been through something like this? Think of a solution, quickly!”
One-Eye stared at Wang Xinnian for a long moment before shaking his head. “He’s about to transform into a true anomalous entity. The entity’s energy has engulfed his entire body. There’s nothing we can do to save him now.”
He gathered energy in his palm. “All we can do is grant him a swift end.”
The group fell silent, realizing that this was the most reliable course left to them.
Just as One-Eye threw a punch, a hand clamped tightly around his fist. Looking down, Wang Xinnian was half-kneeling on the ground, his eyes blood-red and his face darkened, the entity’s energy roiling throughout his body—he was no longer human.
This was the ultimate limit of the Soul Parasite skill after reaching Level 3: to parasitize any life one level below oneself.
Xiao Zi had chosen to parasitize Wang Xinnian to test the skill’s effects, especially since he now possessed the life essence of a Purity Keeper and a terrifying value exceeding a million. He could fully upgrade any skill to Level 4, so he wanted to see which was most worthy.
To be honest, although the skill was powerful, it didn’t quite meet his expectations. Weighing his options, he decided to upgrade Soul Wind Blade, a direct offensive skill.
As he considered this, the attacks of three C-level ghost tamers rushed toward him. Xiao Zi merely sneered.
“Pathetic.”
With that, Wang Xinnian’s body, under his control, erupted with flames, burning the blood of the ghost tamers to greatly enhance his strength. Their attacks battered Wang Xinnian’s body nearly to destruction, but Xiao Zi felt nothing—not even pain.
“Your attacks strike your own teammate. They mean nothing to me.”
He leapt, landing atop One-Eye and seizing his throat. “Hahaha, is this fun?”
Sensing the aura emanating from him, One-Eye shouted, “Run! This guy is incredibly strong!”
The other two ghost tamers didn’t hesitate for a moment; they fled immediately.
Xiao Zi watched their retreat and casually unleashed a Soul Wind Blade. The newly upgraded Level 4 blade shot forth from his body, wild and fierce, zooming toward the fleeing ghost tamers.
In the next instant, an arc of crimson blood splattered across the sky—one ghost tamer was cleaved in two, dead beyond saving.
“You die!”
One-Eye roared, summoning strength from unknown depths and slammed Xiao Zi to the ground. A mass of black energy enveloped Xiao Zi, anchoring him tightly to the earth.
“Don’t look back—run!” One-Eye shouted, bolting forward himself.
He knew his energy could only restrain Xiao Zi temporarily, not for long.
Indeed, at first Xiao Zi found the energy troublesome, as it held him fast. But within seconds, the energy lost its grip and dissipated, allowing Xiao Zi to break free.
By then, Wang Xinnian’s flesh had been burned away, leaving only stark white bones.
Without hesitation, Xiao Zi shed the now useless body and shut his eyes, pushing his super-sense skill to its limits.
A second later, he transformed into a red shadow and vanished.
“One-Eye, what do we do now? Where do we run?” For the first time, the ghost tamers had nowhere to go, pursued by an anomalous entity.
If they fled to the headquarters of the City’s Anomalous Entity Investigation Bureau, they’d find only low-level ghost tamers left; bringing this entity there would spell disaster for Tenjing City’s investigation efforts.
Where could they go?
“Go to the Nether Zone. There are plenty of ghost tamers there.”
“What? Are you serious? Those ghost tamers are all foreign operatives…”
“I believe that, faced with the greater cause of humanity versus anomalous entities, they’ll know what to do!”
With that, he ignored the other ghost tamer and sprinted off alone.
[Nether Zone will open in ten minutes. Please reach the designated location as instructed by the system.]
Suddenly, a system voice sounded in Xiao Zi’s mind.
“Seriously? A prompt at a time like this?”
He hadn’t expected a system alert while hunting his prey. Still, he knew what the Nether Zone meant—the mission’s priority outweighed all else.
Resolutely, he abandoned the chase and headed for the Nether Zone’s location.
Outside Tenjing City, three masked figures dressed in black were deep in discussion.
“Are you sure the Nether Zone will appear here?”
“Relax. Our intelligence network is very reliable.”
“This place is lively—all the major factions have sent people, right?”
“So what? Only B-level and below can enter the Nether Zone. Within my rank, I am invincible!”
Elsewhere, countless similar teams gathered, all with one objective: to seize the Nether Zone!
Upon arrival, Xiao Zi quickly concealed himself.
“Damn, why are there so many people and anomalous entities?”
Around him, anomalous entities and ghost tamers abounded—even three with unique auras, likely the decision-makers.
Among them, he recognized an old acquaintance, Si Liren.
He hadn’t expected her to come to Tenjing City as well, targeting the Nether Zone.
With all these people gathered, it was obvious—they were here for the Nether Zone.
His mission was to release the energy within the Nether Zone, though he didn’t yet know how.
Moments later, he sensed two familiar presences and smiled.
“Well, well. Those two fools are here too—perfect, I can deal with them directly.”
He checked the Nether Zone’s opening time: two minutes left.
Two minutes wasn’t enough to enter and exit the Nether Zone—it was barely enough to try killing one per minute.
With that thought, he activated the Shadow skill and merged into the darkness, ready to strike at any moment.
Meanwhile, One-Eye and the other ghost tamer were unaware of everything unfolding.
Slowly, Xiao Zi crept closer to the two ghost tamers, but the system voice sounded again.
[Nether Zone’s gate will only be open for a brief moment. Enter promptly once it opens.]
What did that mean?
