Chapter Thirty-Three: Grade D, Five New Skills
After parting ways with Xiao Zi, Wang Hui returned home alone. But when he opened the door, he saw a shadowy figure sitting on the sofa.
Seeing this, he shook his head bitterly. Apparently, his boss was much more efficient than he'd thought—already back before him.
He was about to greet him when he realized the person on the sofa wasn’t his boss at all, but a flesh-and-blood human being.
“What the hell, why is it a human?”
The man on the sofa seemed taken aback. “If I’m not human, what am I?”
Wang Hui quickly recovered and eyed the man warily. “How did you get into my house?”
“Hmph, there are plenty of ways I could get in. I’m just here to tell you something: the money your family owes the bank absolutely must be repaid. The bank has already transferred the debt to our company, Wanhui Security.”
“Oh, I see. You’re here to collect the debt?”
“That’s right.”
This so-called Wanhui Security was nothing more than a laundered loan shark operation. After learning about Wang Hui’s family situation, they’d purchased a debt worth millions from the bank for a pittance.
Now they’d come to squeeze Wang Hui for this utterly baseless debt.
Wang Hui smiled, then pointed towards his bedroom. “Wait here, I’ll go get the money.”
With that, he walked off into his bedroom without a backward glance.
The man was even more dumbfounded. He hadn’t expected debt collection to be this easy. But how could this kid possibly come up with over a million?
Well, the company hadn’t expected to recover everything anyway. Anything they got was a bonus; the rest, this kid could work his whole life to pay back.
Soon, Wang Hui emerged from his bedroom, calm as ever. He held no money, but instead a fruit knife.
“I don’t owe anyone a damn thing! Get out, now!”
Wang Hui gripped the knife, leveling it at the intruder, his eyes cold and fierce.
If this had been an ordinary high schooler threatening him with a knife, the man would have snatched it away in an instant and turned the tables.
But something about this boy was different. Rumor had it the only reason he owed the bank so much was because he’d tried to rob it. A story too far-fetched for anyone with half a brain, but proof enough that this kid was no ordinary student.
Adding to that, the man had only come to deliver a message, not to collect. He forced a smile.
“Don’t be so worked up. I just came to let you know. Fine, I’m leaving.”
He spun on his heel and strode out, but as he reached the door, he shot Wang Hui a twisted grin.
Damn kid, threatening me? I’ll be back with reinforcements soon, and you’ll know what despair really is!
Once the man was gone, Wang Hui tossed the knife aside, his expression icy.
He knew these people wouldn’t give up so easily. But he wasn’t worried. With his boss’s strength, even if they came back, they’d never walk out again.
He was no longer the person he used to be.
As for Xiao Zi, he hadn’t killed the taxi driver; he’d let the man escape. A chatty cabbie like that would spread tales of terror far and wide—far more useful alive than dead.
After returning to Wang Hui’s place, he began introducing the Clown.
“Wang Hui, look who it is.”
Wang Hui stared blankly. “Isn’t that the Clown from our class?”
A wide grin spread across the Clown’s face, and he simply kept smiling at Wang Hui.
The smile made Wang Hui’s scalp tingle. He could only force a smile in return.
“This guy’s abilities are incredible—he must be on par with you, Boss. I watched him for ages and honestly couldn’t tell he wasn’t human. His aura is indistinguishable from a real person’s, and he seems to radiate fear.”
At last, the Clown spoke.
“He’s human. He’s also one of my men.”
Xiao Zi said this lightly, then slipped straight into Wang Hui’s soul.
Far more comfortable in there, after all.
Ignoring the stunned Clown and the bitter-faced Wang Hui, Xiao Zi began studying the five skills awarded by the system.
Blood Fury: Absorb human blood and store it within, burning it when needed to boost combat power. (Note: Skill effect depends on level. The higher the level of the being, the greater the enhancement their blood provides.)
Soul Shadow: Conceal oneself within shadows. (Note: Effect depends on level.)
Keen Perception: Greatly enhances the host’s sensory abilities. (Note: Effect depends on level.)
Void Inferno: Trap a target in the void inferno, subjecting them to endless torment. (Note: Effect depends on level.)
Demon Seed: Plant a demon seed in a target, increasing their battle power; can also destroy the seed to kill the target. (Note: Effect depends on level.)
Looking at these five skills, Xiao Zi felt even a ghost would be hard-pressed to choose.
Each skill was more remarkable than the last.
Humans make choices—he wanted them all.
Upgrading any of these skills to Level 1 cost only 500 Terror Points, so he spent 1,500 to unlock them all.
Then he checked the requirements to upgrade each to Level 2.
Blood Fury Level 1 upgrade: 15 human blood vessels, 1,000 Terror Points.
Soul Shadow Level 1 upgrade: 15 human souls, 1,000 Terror Points.
Keen Perception Level 1 upgrade: 30 human skins, 1,000 Terror Points.
Void Inferno Level 1 upgrade: 15 human hearts, 1,000 Terror Points.
Demon Seed Level 1 upgrade: 15 human brains, 1,000 Terror Points.
With so many powerful skills, Wang Hui would be formidable indeed once they reached Level 2—enough to challenge even a Class C entity and emerge victorious.
Xiao Zi now had just over five thousand Terror Points left—exactly enough to upgrade all these skills to Level 2. He floated out of Wang Hui’s body.
“You two get along. I’ve got something to take care of.”
When it came to getting stronger, Xiao Zi wasn’t about to waste a second. He immediately set out to indulge himself.
After he left, the Clown and Wang Hui stared at each other in silence.
Finally, Wang Hui couldn’t take it anymore and pulled out a game controller. “Do you play video games...?”
The Clown smiled enigmatically. “I can give it a try.”
And so, a human and a supernatural being sat before the television, playing a horror game together.
Meanwhile, Xiao Zi traveled far and wide, sowing terror until he’d upgraded all five skills.
