"Young Master, Miss Xianyu was very worried about you last night after seeing you have an attack. She stayed up all night watching over you!" Aunt Rong’s meaning was clear to Nangong Ao; however, he had no interest in Xianyu Jing in that regard.

"Mm, she’s worked hard," he replied.

Seeing Nangong Ao’s calm indifference, Aunt Rong felt a bit dissatisfied and pressed on, "She’s just a young girl, staying up all night for you. If this were ancient times, it would have damaged her reputation and you’d have to take responsibility!"

Nangong Ao was immediately choked by her words, coughing uncontrollably.

What era is it now! If he had to take responsibility for every woman who spent time alone with him, he’d have a whole basketful of women to account for.

"Oh dear, young master, don’t get so worked up!" Aunt Rong quickly patted him on the back to help him catch his breath. "I was just saying. Even if you wanted to take responsibility, Miss Xianyu might not even want you to!"

Nangong Ao: ...

I’m still not fully recovered—I need rest.

After finishing her porridge in the dining room, Jiang Mohe returned to the surveillance room and saw Xianyu Jing crouched at her bedroom window, peeking inside.

Jiang Mohe walked over to her, and before he could speak, Xianyu Jing suddenly turned and was startled by him. She stepped back and bumped the back of her head on the window frame.

"Ouch!" she murmured, rubbing her head.

"Did you hurt yourself?"

Jiang Mohe instinctively reached out to touch her head but withdrew his hand.

"It’s nothing," Xianyu Jing replied, a bit embarrassed. "I heard Nana making noises in here, so I came to check."

"She’s probably hungry." Jiang Mohe opened the door, and Xianyu Jing followed him in.

The little blue kitten was happily tugging at a blanket in the cardboard box. Jiang Mohe picked her up by the scruff of her neck and set her on the floor.

Perhaps the floor was a bit cold; the little thing whimpered and shivered. But when Jiang Mohe set a bowl of milk before her, she forgot everything else and began to lap it up, making soft smacking noises.

She really was hungry.

Xianyu Jing knelt down, watching the kitten drink the milk with a smile at the corner of her eyes.

Jiang Mohe handed her a key. "I’ll be away for two days. Please look after Nana for me."

Xianyu Jing hesitated before taking the key. "Is this a task your elder brother assigned you?"

Jiang Mohe merely hummed an affirmation; he couldn’t say more.

"Well... be careful."

Seeing the concern in her eyes, Jiang Mohe nodded. "I will."

After spending a restless night at Angel Hospital, Nangong Xin was found to be fine. The doctor released her the next morning.

Yes, it was the same male doctor as before!

"Why is it you again?" Nangong Xin was visibly displeased.

She glanced at his name badge: Emergency Department — Xu Yang.

"Yes, it’s me," Xu Yang replied blandly.

This time Nangong Xin didn’t explode at him. Instead, she warned, "Dr. Xu, I am the third young miss of the Nangong family. This hospital belongs to my family—I can stay as long as I want. Also, you’re in Emergency, what are you doing meddling in inpatient affairs?"

Despite his boy-next-door looks, Xu Yang had the sharpest tongue in Angel Hospital.

"Miss Nangong, the hospital may be owned by your family, but I was personally hired by the director. My contract doesn’t state that I must obey the third young miss of the Nangong family. And in this department, I’m in charge!"

He flipped his badge to show the reverse: Inpatient Department Deputy Director.

Nangong Xin was stunned, then called out angrily to a nurse, "Fetch Director Qiao for me!"

"Sorry, Director Qiao has a major surgery today and can’t see you," Xu Yang said unhurriedly. "And there’s no point calling any other higher-ranking doctors—they’re all busy. For something as minor as discharge, my approval is enough."

In truth, none of them dared to provoke the third young miss, so they’d left this hot potato to him.

"You..." Nangong Xin was livid. "Do you believe I can have my brother fire you?"

"I believe it," Xu Yang said with a slight smile. "But that’s for another day. For now, please complete your discharge paperwork."

Nangong Xin’s chest heaved with fury. "Just you wait! One day, you’ll apologize to me in person for your rudeness!"

With that, she stormed out of the inpatient department, abandoning the discharge procedures.

Su Cha, who had remained silent throughout, quietly went to fetch the car.

A timid nurse in the room asked Xu Yang, "Dr. Xu, are you really going to be fired?"

Xu Yang brushed off his white coat and smiled kindly. "Hard to say."

The nurse was speechless.

How could he still smile?

Fuming, Nangong Xin returned to the estate and saw Cui Hao coming out of the villa. "My brother didn’t go to work today?"

"Mm," Cui Hao replied vaguely, then hurried off.

If the third young miss found out what happened last night, she’d surely blow up—and he wanted no part of that.

Nangong Xin was headed upstairs to complain to her brother when Aunt Rong stopped her. "Miss Xin, the young master just went back to sleep. Please don’t disturb him."

"Middle of the day and my brother’s not at work but sleeping? That’s unheard of!"

"Well..." Aunt Rong hesitated. "The young master is unwell and needs rest."

"My brother is sick?!"

It was the first time Nangong Xin had ever heard that her brother was ill—aside from that incident years ago, when that wretched assistant set him up.

"Don’t tell me someone’s stolen his medicine again?" Nangong Xin was not completely clueless.

Seeing Aunt Rong’s uneasy expression, she stopped asking and went straight upstairs.

Aunt Rong knew she couldn’t stop her and gave up.

The bedroom door burst open. Nangong Ao, who’d been resting with his eyes closed, opened them, frowning. Seeing Nangong Xin, he rebuked her: "What is it? Why are you so rash?"

He hadn’t yet recovered, but had already dealt with a pile of affairs and was truly exhausted.

Seeing how haggard he looked, Nangong Xin couldn’t help but worry. "Brother, what’s wrong? Did someone try to harm you again?"

"I’m all right now. Don’t let this matter get out," Nangong Ao instructed. "Not even to Grandmother."

"Why?" Nangong Xin was puzzled. "Why keep it from her?"

"I don’t want her to worry," he sighed. "And if she found out, she’d start implicating everyone around us. I’ll take care of it myself."

Nangong Xin remembered her grandmother’s ruthless decisiveness the last time something happened to Nangong Ao. She was not eager to cross her, so she nodded. "All right, I won’t tell Grandma."

"And you? Why did you go to the hospital again?" Nangong Ao asked.

Nangong Xin pouted, looking aggrieved. "I did not cause trouble! A cat got in, and I felt unwell, so I went to see the doctor."

She was just about to complain about her ordeal at the hospital when Nangong Ao said, "If that’s the case, you should move back home."

"What?" Nangong Xin protested at once, "I don’t want to!"
