Chapter 57: Who Else?
“Captain, someone’s coming again!” This time, it was Tan Li who hurried over to inform Gu Changqing, his gaze lingering on the Wind and Moon magazine in Gu Changqing’s hands.
He wondered internally when the captain would finish reading and return it to him.
“It’s Ming Xue… She’s an ice-type awakened from the Fuquan branch, said to be quite formidable…”
“Is she more formidable than me?” Gu Changqing casually tossed the magazine onto the table.
“Of course not!” Tan Li answered quickly.
“Then what’s there to talk about?” Gu Changqing rose and headed outside.
“There’s someone else with her, but I don’t know who…” Tan Li followed closely behind.
“They really got here fast. I saw posts on the forum saying some people were still driving over…”
Gu Changqing’s taunting on the forum had stirred up a hornet’s nest.
Awakened individuals were all favored by fate; even if they weren’t the top experts in their regions, they were the backbone, confident in their abilities. Under such circumstances, who could endure being provoked?
Especially since, aside from some acknowledged experts like Ning Ze—whom Nanshan mentioned before, almost at the summit of level four awakened—others had different awakening types and fighting styles; all had to test themselves against each other.
Now, seeing a newcomer so arrogant, many could not hold back and drove straight over.
Gu Changqing descended and saw a young man and woman. The woman had short hair, stood less than 1.6 meters, and exuded a bold air. The man was handsome, a little over 1.7 meters tall.
Both wore sportswear.
“So you’re Gu Changqing?” Ming Xue saw the tall figure emerge from the elevator and thought he looked impressive; her hostility softened a bit. After all, the values tend to follow the looks.
“Are you the one who talks big?” Gu Changqing glanced at her with slight disdain and scoffed, immediately igniting her anger.
Her awakened power was ice, but her temper was fiery.
“Your mouth stinks! Didn’t brush your teeth this morning?”
“Trash has no right to speak!” When it came to verbal sparring, Gu Changqing feared no one.
They entered the training hall, where even more people were watching.
Gao Wenxin opened the training hall’s surveillance in her office, arms folded, watching the screen with interest.
This guy… really isn’t simple!
His awakening was blood, but this blood was strange, and his physical fitness was comparable to those awakened in body enhancement.
She felt she’d stumbled upon a treasure.
Her attitude was straightforward: as long as Gu Changqing was strong enough and had enough potential, she could tolerate all minor issues.
There was no choice; in Angang, she was the only one holding the fort.
The security system had spent years preparing to establish Chongming, even transferring personnel from the military, resulting in some decent awakened individuals.
Other branches managed to assign at least one or two level four awakened, but Angang… for certain reasons, Yongan headquarters hadn’t sent anyone.
The reason was simple.
Though she also came from the security system, she was different from others. While others had been catching people before awakening, she had been the one caught…
But someone stood up for her back then, and she served Yuzhou headquarters for several years, grew fast… mainly had someone vouch for her, so she was placed here.
In all of Yuzhou, the Guards’ influence in Angang was the greatest.
After all, not every place had a level six awakened stationed, especially one with lightning, the top elemental type.
…
Gu Changqing entered the training hall, kicking off his shoes.
His clothes were fine, usually a bit loose, but his shoes wore out too fast.
His shoes were all branded, costing thousands a pair!
Barefoot, he walked to the center of the hall and turned around. His veins bulged, a sharp sound echoed, his eyes full of ferocity, his whole presence like a monstrous beast.
Though his figure hadn’t grown taller, he seemed to tower over others.
Ming Xue had meant to speak, but the sight made her tense, especially as she felt the oppressive aura radiating from Gu Changqing.
Ice spread from beneath her feet, forming a wall in front of her, and dozens of arm-sized ice spikes materialized behind.
But Gu Changqing took a single stride forward, arriving before the ice wall, and punched it.
Boom!
With his current third level of Qi training, the punch consumed a fifth of his spiritual energy.
To those above the sixth level, it was nothing, but below the fifth, it was a soul-shaking, formidable blow.
Even more so for awakened.
The ice wall, as hard as steel, exploded, sending shards flying backward.
Ming Xue raised another ice wall, countless ice spikes raining down on Gu Changqing, each sharp enough to kill.
Knowing his weakness was agility and speed, Gu Changqing didn’t bother dodging. He stomped and charged forward.
His shoulders and back were cut with bloody lines, but he didn’t seem to react, throwing another punch.
The second ice wall shattered instantly; Ming Xue couldn't summon a third in time and dodged aside, more ice spikes appearing in midair.
But Gu Changqing raised his hand, firing several blood bee needles from his fingertips, faster than the ice spikes.
Ming Xue realized too late, her knees pierced instantly, collapsing.
Gu Changqing lunged, grabbed her ankle, and spun her onto the ground.
“Stop!” The young man with Ming Xue rushed forward.
Boom!
Gu Changqing turned, flashed a ferocious grin at the youth, and tossed Ming Xue aside.
The youth frowned, bracing himself.
The next moment, Gu Changqing spun and kicked Ming Xue in the waist with immense force.
Boom!
The youth’s eyes reddened, “You’re that ruthless even to your own people!”
Not just him, even the others felt chills.
Elemental awakened were far less robust than those enhanced physically; Ming Xue had lost her fighting power after Gu Changqing’s first throw.
No one expected him to follow up with another kick after tossing her aside.
With a quick movement, the youth appeared before Gu Changqing, his hand as a blade slashing at Gu Changqing’s throat, edges shimmering with white bone.
His other hand formed bone spikes between his fingers, bone with a metallic sheen.
Gu Changqing grinned, blood pythons leaping from his fingers towards the youth’s face.
The youth didn’t know what was strange about this blood, but saw Ming Xue’s knees pierced earlier, which explained her swift defeat.
A layer of bone armor appeared on his face, metallic sheen, covering everything but his eyes, which he closed tightly.
But that meant he lost sight of Gu Changqing.
Especially as the blood python struck his face, he felt his eyelids burn, as if corroded.
Gu Changqing dodged the hand blade, evaded the bone spikes, circled around, and punched.
Another double explosion: Gu Changqing’s fist smashed the youth’s rib cage, breaking the bone armor, and the youth was embedded in the metal wall.
Gu Changqing walked to the unconscious Ming Xue, nudged her face up with his toe, then took out his phone and snapped a photo.
He did the same with the youth.
Then he swaggered away.
Everyone in the training hall was stunned—this was too intense.
…
Back in the office, Gu Changqing winced. Damn, his shoulder and back hurt from the ice spikes.
But three wins out of three, and he felt a deeper grasp of the Eight Desolation Fist.
It wasn’t just his understanding of the fist technique during battle that advanced, but the consecutive victories brought him powerful confidence—the kind that nothing could stand in his way. This overwhelming confidence was the true source of the Eight Desolation Fist’s supreme intent.
It was different from his old “I’m the boss, heaven’s second, earth’s third” attitude.
“So it’s like this!” Gu Changqing felt he was on the right path; this was truly how the fist should be trained.
Though it was tough on awakened opponents.
And the spiritual energy burned too fast.
After fighting Nanshan, his energy recovered after an hour, but this fight nearly depleted it, leaving just over a fifth.
Returning to the office, he uploaded the two photos to the forum.
“Who else?”
At this moment, many Chongming awakened were watching the forum for updates.
They didn’t expect two photos, showing both injured and unconscious.
“Ming Xue and Huo Guangzhou?”
“Those two lost too?”
“They’re not weak, and all three have different styles—this newcomer is that fierce?”
“Who said he was a level three awakened?”
Many erupted in shock, feeling chills even through the screen.
Previously, there was no mention of any expert in Angang besides Gao Wenxin, and suddenly, one had appeared from nowhere.
And he was so arrogant.
“He’s definitely a level three awakened. That’s what Angang says—I called and confirmed!”
“Damn, I can barely hold back my wild power!”
“There are still several old hands on the way, right?”
…
After uploading the photos, Gu Changqing went to find Gao Wenxin.
Gao Wenxin looked him over, seeing that after three fights, he exuded not only his previous wildness but a powerful oppressive aura.
She immediately understood.
This guy was seeking opponents to hone his skills, just like she had once sought sparring partners for her blade.
He had fought many before, but today, facing level four awakened and winning three times, he had cultivated momentum.
There was a hint of appreciation in Gao Wenxin’s gaze.
But she knew: he had to keep winning. If he lost, the momentum and belief he built would collapse.
If he kept winning, this momentum and confidence would grow to an astonishing degree.
She wondered where he had learned such a sinister fist technique.
“Qi Pills!” Gu Changqing said as soon as he sat down.
He hadn’t cared much before, but now his spiritual energy was nearly depleted, and more people were on the way.
He immediately thought of these pills.
They weren’t much use for cultivation, but at least they could restore spiritual energy.
“You think I run a grocery store?” Gao Wenxin raised an eyebrow.
Despite her words, she pulled a bottle from her drawer and tossed it to him. “Return it later—they’re expensive.”
Gu Changqing opened it—ten vermillion pills inside. He sniffed at the bottle and his expression soured, “Did you give me the junior version before?”
“What are you thinking? These are Qi Condensing Pills. Level five awakened only get three bottles a month!” Gao Wenxin replied irritably.
