Chapter 111: How Can You Run So Fast Without Legs?
Even a Level 6 Awakener felt an overwhelming, unstoppable force emanating from Gu Changqing’s punch; even the mountains seemed on the verge of collapsing under its impact, let alone a mere person. At this moment, Ji Yan dared not even think of holding back to capture Gu Changqing—whether he could even survive was uncertain. Struggling to adjust his posture, he formed a massive fireball between his hands, which then exploded thunderously.
Gu Changqing immediately sensed a tremendous explosive force colliding head-on with his punch. With a second booming blast, although Gu Changqing’s punch broke through the explosion’s shockwave, Ji Yan was blasted dozens of meters away by the force. Yet Ji Yan did not relax for a moment; the blood-colored figure within the blood river transformed into a meteor and instantly appeared before him again. Even the tearing of the air and the sound of explosions chased closely behind this thrust.
Ji Yan, with nowhere to evade, raised his hand to block the spear. An explosion erupted in his palm, shattering the spear, but the tip still pierced into his palm, countless veins of blood infiltrating his body along his blood vessels. Ji Yan was both shocked and furious; he had thought capturing a Level 5 Awakener would be a simple task, yet here he was, pushed to such a dire state. Especially those blood strands—they seemed alive, rapidly crawling inward along his arm.
His body immediately ignited with roaring flames from within, even the blood in his veins boiling fiercely as it struggled against the blood prison inside his arm. However, the shattered blood-colored figure transformed into a sea of blood needles that rained down on him relentlessly; he lost count of how many needles pricked his body.
Ji Yan cast a cold, hostile glance at Gu Changqing. Then, another explosion erupted beneath him, hurling him far away. He knew clearly that this time he had lost and suffered a heavy blow. He needed to leave quickly to purge those things inside his body!
“Trying to run?” Gu Changqing would never let him escape. Igniting another Demon-Destroying Thunderlight Talisman, a thunderbolt struck from the sky. Ji Yan coughed up blood mid-air and was struck down to the ground, his bones aching as if several had broken, his heart burning with hatred. Yet he bounced up upon landing and fled once more, while pillars of fire erupted beneath Gu Changqing’s feet.
The golden light surrounding Gu Changqing initially faint, but before it could fade, he activated another golden protective talisman, and the golden glow flared again. The greatest drawback of the Turtle-Snake Eight Trigrams Lamp was its inability to replenish spiritual energy with spirit stones during intense combat. Simultaneously, controlling the Parent-Child Yin-Yang Swords, Gu Changqing slashed at Ji Yan’s legs. Ji Yan, caught off guard, lost his right foot. Nevertheless, his escape speed did not falter, propelled chiefly by explosive flames.
...
“Stop this!” Zhang Fan spoke, seeing Ji Yan defeated and fleeing in disgrace at Gu Changqing’s hands.
“If you want to fight, fight. If you can’t win, stop. I must say, I underestimated your shamelessness!” Gao Wenxin said coldly, her hands never ceasing.
At this moment, Gao Wenxin was sharp as a blade, a drawn sword in human form, utterly different from usual. Countless sword intents floated around her. Even standing still, everything nearby was being cleaved apart. There wasn’t a single intact spot around them; large stretches of the road were pulverized into dust by Gao Wenxin’s blades. Seven or eight-meter-long slash marks scarred the pavement, destroying two to three hundred meters of road. This was merely the aftermath of a battle between Level 6 Awakeners.
The other side fared no better; vast areas of the road were shattered by the combined flames and repeated explosions, leaving many large craters on the surface.
...
Gu Changqing pursued for over ten miles, chasing from the highway to the banks of the Qing River, then crossing it and entering a mountain forest. Standing atop a large rock amid the continuing boom of explosions, a figure disappeared into the distance.
“Damn, how can someone run so fast without legs!” Gu Changqing was furious, stomping and smashing the rock beneath him. He had used two golden protective talismans, two Demon-Destroying Thunderlight Talismans, a Geng Metal Swordlight Talisman, and a Wind-Running Talisman, severing that guy’s two legs—and yet he still got away.
That guy relied on explosive propulsion to escape at incredible speed, which infuriated Gu Changqing greatly. He gestured toward the distance, and blood lines flew back, entering his body. Even the Blood Prison hadn’t swallowed him, which further aggravated Gu Changqing. The Parent-Child Yin-Yang Swords crashed through dozens of giant trees, which fell with thunderous roars.
“Damn it, you’re fast!” Gu Changqing cursed bitterly, then redirected his anger at the guards. “Once I break through to Foundation Establishment, the first thing I’ll do is take down those guards!”
While cursing, Gu Changqing swallowed a Spirit-Refining Pill to recover some spiritual energy and then returned. The battle had been brief but intense, having consumed much of his energy. He had already taken one Spirit-Refining Pill earlier, though its recovery was slow.
When he returned, Zhang Fan was gone, and Gao Wenxin had reverted to her usual appearance, though her face was pale, and her clothes stained with blood.
Gao Wenxin appraised the irritated Gu Changqing; this guy was growing too fast and had many tricks up his sleeve—no small fortune indeed. At this rate, he would soon reach Level 6 Awakener status, and with his chaotic methods, even one or two Level 6 Awakeners might find it hard to deal with him.
“The guards won’t attack you anymore!” Gao Wenxin said. “They don’t have many Level 6 Awakeners to deploy. After failing to capture you this time, they know you’re not easy to handle and won’t come at you with brute force again,” she explained.
“If they don’t act, I will!” Gu Changqing snapped.
“That’s your business then!” Gao Wenxin didn’t try to dissuade him. Were she in his place, she’d do the same.
“Let’s go!”
Sensing the battle had ceased, Qiao Renxia drove back. A man and a woman strolled leisurely down the road, and the two Level 6 Awakener guards had vanished completely.
“The two Level 6 Awakeners left?” Qiao Renxia understood what that meant—at least the Minister and Captain hadn’t lost. She gasped, then felt excitement and exhilaration surge within her. The Minister and Captain were that strong!
In Angang, the guards had only one Qi Wuyang; Chongming had two Level 6 Awakener guards. In other words, Chongming could now walk with impunity.
Behind the two, hardly any place was left intact. Qiao Renxia couldn’t help but take out her phone and record the aftermath of the battle. Meanwhile, a question formed in her mind: she had once considered pursuing the Captain, but that now seemed too difficult—mainly because the Captain was almost never seen.
Should she adopt the Captain as her godfather?
“Godfather!” Qiao Renxia thought, then instinctively called out.
Gao Wenxin gave her a sly, half-smile glance.
“Want to call me your godfather? You’ll have to line up all the way back to Angang for that!” Gu Changqing said gruffly, having been asked this many times before. In a previous life, the line stretched from Central to Kowloon.
“Godfather!” Qiao Renxia called again, grinning brightly. After all, she had said it.
Gu Changqing was too lazy to look at her. Climbing into the car, he took out an empty pouch and handed it to Gao Wenxin. “This is for you!”
“What is it?” Gao Wenxin asked, surprised. Opening it, she found a one-cubic-meter space inside.
“Not bad! You still know how to show gratitude!” Gao Wenxin smiled.
Gu Changqing leaned back in his seat lazily. “Of course. I always repay a drop of kindness with a spring of gratitude!”
Yet his expression remained sour. The fact that Ji Yan had escaped still weighed on his mind.
