Seeing the mocking expression on Gu Changqing's face, Bai Mi's anger was instantly provoked. She spoke coldly, "Fine. You're very impressive."

Though she wasn't skilled in combat, Bai Mi was a Level Four Awakened. Sharp spikes, the size of fingers, sprouted from her hands and the sides of her head, ready to shoot at Gu Changqing.

But in the next moment, Gu Changqing stomped the ground, unleashing a tremendous force. He crossed several meters in a flash and appeared right before her, kicking out forcefully.

Boom!

Gu Changqing held his kicking posture, but Bai Mi vanished from everyone's sight, leaving a gaping hole in the wall. The crowd's vision blurred as Gu Changqing disappeared again, reappearing before Bai Mi and reaching for her neck.

At this moment, most of Bai Mi's body had turned to wood. Her hands produced multiple wooden spikes that shot toward Gu Changqing with a speed nearly matching bullets, but with far greater power. In a blink, dozens of spikes were fired, like a human machine gun.

Yet Bai Mi lacked combat experience; her movements weren't quick enough. Gu Changqing shifted to her side, swept her legs with his foot, and grabbed her midair by the neck, dragging her back.

A blood python, thicker than Gu Changqing’s arm, slithered from his wrist and coiled around Bai Mi's body.

Bai Mi gritted her teeth, about to retaliate, but was shocked to find her wooden spikes being corroded by the blood wrapped around her. If Gu Changqing had intended to kill her, the blood serpent could have devoured her entirely.

The power Gu Changqing displayed stunned her. She was a Level Four Awakened; ordinary Level Three Awakened were no match for her. But how long had Gu Changqing been awakened? How could he be so formidable? And what was with that blood?

Her wooden spikes were incredibly tough, able to pierce steel, yet were destroyed by his blood. Bai Mi, filled with disbelief, examined the tall young man before her and took a deep breath, her gaze icy cold. "Gu Changqing, what are you doing? Are you aware of your actions?"

Though there was friction between Chongming and the Guards, neither side had openly clashed. Gu Changqing’s actions had torn away any pretense.

"I just want to make it clear—I want this person!" Gu Changqing laughed heartily and swung Bai Mi against the wall.

Boom!

Another hole appeared in the wall, and Bai Mi was smashed outside the Security Bureau’s courtyard.

Gu Changqing casually stuck his hands in his pockets and strolled back to the room, his sharp gaze sweeping over everyone.

Whether it was Qiao Renxia and his two companions, or the high school student’s family, their minds were all blank with shock.

Qiao Renxia and his companions couldn’t believe Gu Changqing had attacked so suddenly; after all, Bai Mi was a Guard.

Meanwhile, the high school student’s family had just heard Bai Mi praising the Guards’ power, only to witness this ferocious man appear.

Gu Changqing grinned, revealing white teeth. "Now the problem is solved!"

"Let me introduce our department. We're called Chongming—like the Chongming bird—and we're part of the security system."

The group stared at Gu Changqing and his bright smile, but felt no warmth; it was as if a wild beast stood before them.

It was hard to imagine that such a beastly man belonged to the security system.

The high school student's father opened his mouth to say something, but Gu Changqing glanced at his watch and said, "Come on, I'll take you home. I have things to do!"

He never intended to give them a choice.

The nervous family was packed into the car, and both vehicles sped off.

Zhuo Zhipeng watched the uneasy trio in the rearview mirror and tried to reassure them, "Our Chongming is just as good as the Guards, and the atmosphere is much friendlier..."

"That man just now..." The student's father, seeing Zhuo Zhipeng seemed approachable, quickly asked, "Is he your captain?"

"Yes, he's our captain! Though he can be a bit fierce..." Zhuo Zhipeng trailed off, exchanging glances with Tan Li.

It was hard to continue that sentence.

"Our captain is very powerful, actually," Tan Li added.

"That’s obvious," the father forced a smile.

It certainly was.

If he could choose, he’d rather his son join the Guards; Bai Mi seemed much easier to talk to.

The high school student, though silent, had bright eyes, always watching the car ahead through the window.

He had always been overlooked and bullied... Gu Changqing’s wild, unrestrained manner was exactly what he admired.

Yet he was also a bit anxious.

On the way back to Chongming headquarters, Gu Changqing lounged in the back seat with his legs crossed, a blood serpent winding around his neck.

Upon arriving at headquarters, Gu Changqing smirked, "I thought the Guards would jump out to stop us!"

He was ready for a fight.

Inside headquarters, the high school student and his parents were still looking around as Gu Changqing gestured for them to leave.

After their return, the trio whispered in the office—the captain’s style had truly opened their eyes.

Gu Changqing led his team to the minister’s office.

"Looks like it went smoothly?" Gao Wenxin looked up, smiling as Gu Changqing brought people in.

"Smooth! The Guards arrived too late," Gu Changqing replied carelessly.

Gao Wenxin raised her eyebrows.

Gu Changqing had just left when she received a call from the southern bureau.

"Isn’t it time to get off work?" Gu Changqing pointed at his watch. "We enforcers have human rights too!"

Gao Wenxin was nearly exasperated—this guy had disappeared for days, only to spend twenty minutes at headquarters.

"Someone’s already waiting for me in bed! You won’t let me go home?"

Gao Wenxin glared at him for a long while before waving him off irritably. "Keep your phone on!"

She pondered finding an opportunity to throw him into headquarters for a proper beating.

"If you need anything, just call!" Gu Changqing left with a cheerful smile, thinking Gao Wenxin wasn’t suited for leadership.

Her strength was decent, but she was too sentimental, her management skills average.

But for him, that was an advantage.

"Be careful of retaliation!" Gao Wenxin's voice came as Gu Changqing walked out.

Gu Changqing waved it off carelessly and headed back to the office. "Let’s go get a late-night snack—my treat!"

The three cheered and followed Gu Changqing for some team bonding.

The snack itself wasn’t important; the key was to build rapport with the captain.

While eating, Tan Li asked, "Captain, will causing trouble for the Guards bring us problems?"

After all, the Guards were directly under the royal family, a major power in Southern Chu, and stronger than Chongming.

"If you’re not ruthless, you won’t stand firm. If you’re not fierce, no one fears you. How do you get things done otherwise?" Gu Changqing replied nonchalantly.

"We don’t have your strength, Captain..." Zhuo Zhipeng smiled wryly.

"I’ll teach you a trick!" Gu Changqing thought for a moment.

"What is it?" All three leaned in, focused.

"Get a small nuclear bomb and strap it to yourself. When you go out, everyone will give you respect!" Gu Changqing said earnestly.

He’d been pondering where to borrow a small nuke lately—he wanted to throw it at the Yu family in Yuanhe.

...

Bai Mi returned to the Guards headquarters with a cold expression. She immediately pulled up the records of registered Awakened, reviewing their abilities and growth trajectories.

The fire-type Awakened was no longer important. Now, her focus was on Gu Changqing.

Gu Changqing’s growth was too swift and fierce—so fast it was alarming.

The blood he controlled was bizarre.

She even began to doubt her previous assessment of Gu Changqing.

It was nearly dawn when Bai Mi sat silently in her chair, brows tightly knitted.

On the screen before her was a single person’s file.
