Chapter 69: That's Right, I Am Indeed a Member of the Gui Xu Sect
The reason Bai Feiyu was shouting so loudly, challenging the Golden Radiance Sect, was to draw out the rest of their members. He firmly believed that anyone who heard his brazen taunts would immediately rush over without delay. The more, the better. Of course, those who couldn't hear him were another matter.
When the time came, he would deal with all the Golden Radiance Sect members, and have his army of spirit puppets chase after them. Bai Feiyu wasn't concerned about the resentment of the disciples behind him for his audacious shouting. After all, just luring the spirit puppets onto the Golden Radiance Sect's territory was enough to make them hate him. Since there was no turning back, he might as well offend them thoroughly.
"Hey, you cowards of the Golden Radiance Sect, are you all hiding in your shells? Aren’t you going to come out and face me?" he shouted. "I've already charged into your territory—what, are you afraid?"
Bai Feiyu’s voice thundered, making the faces of the Golden Radiance Sect disciples behind him turn livid with rage. Who was this maniac? Was he here solely to stir up trouble? As if things weren’t chaotic enough already.
The disciples of the Golden Radiance Sect wished nothing more than to leap forward and tear Bai Feiyu to pieces, but unfortunately, he was simply too fast for them.
"Senior brother, should we shout and warn the others not to come this way?" one of the disciples panted, his eyes burning with fury at Bai Feiyu, as if he wanted to swallow him whole.
"No, if we shout, the others will think we’re scared of Bai Feiyu," another replied reluctantly. "But we can’t just let everyone else walk into his trap, can we..."
"Idiot! Don’t you think Bai Feiyu has already considered what you just thought of?" the senior snapped. "That’s precisely his scheme. If we shout, it’ll help him attract more of our sect members. After all, if we raise the alarm, others won’t believe us; they haven’t witnessed the terror of the spirit puppets. They’ll think we’re just trying to keep Bai Feiyu to ourselves and not let them share in the credit. That’ll only make them come faster."
"At this point, all we can do is try to lead the spirit puppet army onto another sect’s territory," he concluded with a sigh.
As Bai Feiyu’s shouts echoed through the land, squads of the Golden Radiance Sect nearby could no longer sit still. Immediately, righteous and indignant, they leapt out for the honor of the sect—only to be drawn into Bai Feiyu’s marathon.
In the end, almost everyone in the Golden Radiance Sect’s territory was drawn in; not only that, but even members of several other sects were lured over as well.
Thus, Bai Feiyu led his swelling entourage toward the territory of another sect: the Crimson Firmament Sect. At that moment, the scene in Crimson Firmament’s territory was nearly identical to what had happened in Golden Radiance’s domain.
It didn’t take long for Bai Feiyu to wreak havoc in the Crimson Firmament Sect, too, and the crowd could only keep running, shifting the disaster onto the lands of other sects. The procession grew ever larger.
Eventually, Bai Feiyu glanced back at the horde chasing after him, a mixture of sect disciples and spirit puppets, and couldn’t help but feel a surge of emotion. For now, at least, he was leading the pack—truly a remarkable feat.
The crowd behind him wore looks of utter resignation. No matter how they tried, they couldn’t shake off the spirit puppet army, and so they were left with no choice but to keep fleeing.
Along the way, those who ran out of strength and couldn’t keep up were quickly overtaken and overwhelmed by the spirit puppets. The rest could only keep running, uncertain when, if ever, they would escape this nightmare.
What’s more, aside from those in the Golden Radiance Sect, almost no one from the other sects recognized Bai Feiyu. Each sect had its own geniuses, and Bai Feiyu’s exploits had yet to spread far enough to attract particular notice. As a result, these clueless disciples turned their resentment toward the Golden Radiance Sect.
They simply assumed that the Golden Radiance Sect had caused all this, drawing disaster to everyone else and refusing to let anyone have peace. On the run, whenever disciples from other sects saw an opportunity, they would take action against the Golden Radiance Sect, trying to trip them up so they’d be caught by the pursuing spirit puppets.
"I don’t think we need to be afraid of the spirit puppets, not with so many of us," someone suggested breathlessly as they ran. "Why don’t we all band together and take them down?"
But the stronger disciples in their own sects quickly shot down the idea. They could see that the spirit puppets behind them were individually powerful, and even combined, they might not win. Even if they could prevail, many would be sacrificed in the battle, and in the end, each sect might be left with only one or two survivors.
How would they explain that to their sect leaders? It was better to flee together and keep most people alive. For now, they could only hope the elders would come to their rescue.
"Golden Radiance Sect, I despise you! You wretched lot, if you dare come to the Grand Sect Tournament, we’ll kill every last one of you!"
"That’s right! How shameless—Golden Radiance Sect is truly despicable!"
"We should form an alliance just to hunt down the Golden Radiance Sect disciples!"
As they fled in abject misery, a group of disciples shouted curses at the Golden Radiance Sect. Several senior disciples from Golden Radiance couldn’t take it anymore—they refused to shoulder this blame.
"Brothers, you’re mistaken! This disaster wasn’t caused by us—it was the Ruins Return Sect, that’s right, the one in front, he’s from the Ruins Return Sect, not us! He brought the disaster here!"
"Oh, please, who are you fooling? There isn’t a single familiar face from the Ruins Return Sect here. You expect me to believe one person alone could bring so many spirit puppets?"
"I’m not lying! If you don’t believe me, ask him—ask if he’s from the Ruins Return Sect!"
A senior disciple from the Golden Radiance Sect, anxious to clear his sect’s name, blurted out the truth without thinking.
At that moment, Bai Feiyu, hearing the commotion from behind, turned around and declared loudly to the other sects, "That’s right, I’m from the Ruins Return Sect. I brought these spirit puppets here just to cause you trouble!"
He spoke the truth. However, in the ears of the other sects, it sounded quite different. They glared furiously at the Golden Radiance Sect disciples, feeling as if their intelligence had been insulted. Clearly, this was an attempt to shift the blame onto the Ruins Return Sect.
Who would actually admit to being from the Ruins Return Sect? The fact that this man did so openly only proved he was one of Golden Radiance’s own, trying to divert disaster elsewhere.
