That is the biological brother of Director Guo’s son.
"Heh..."
Staring at the six bright red certificates and six gold medals, Guo Rong quickly snapped dozens of photos, flooding his social media with them before making a video call to his father, Guo Wei.
"Dad, it's all set! Look, six gold medals! A full six!"
"That Li kid is unbelievably strong, Xiao Rong. When he has time, make sure to invite him over for a meal at home."
Guo Wei was deeply grateful to Li Jie, not just for the two hundred thousand yuan design fee. Of course, the main reason was still the two hundred thousand.
Now his son's new career path was solid. The road to a teaching position at the university was too tough, and Guo Wei couldn't understand why young people today worked so hard.
After all, they're already PhDs. Why stay at the university just to become a professional course instructor? What’s the point?
This relentless drive made it impossible for his son to just coast along. Being the Associate Dean of the School of Industrial Design was a frustrating job.
Dean Guo was firmly opposed to internal competition in universities!
Back in the day, getting your own children appointed as class advisors was a breeze; even without any real talent, they could still be department heads, program directors, or switch to logistics and become millionaires if the opportunity arose.
But now? Everyone’s fighting for graduate degrees, completely ruining the experience for privileged second-generation kids like Guo Rong.
"It's all set now, everything's in place. Next step, help Mr. Su with his campaign!"
As the New Year approached, Guo Rong had little interest in the festivities; his mind was set on promotion and making money.
To him, Li Jie was the long-lost brother he’d never had.
Yet, as soon as he returned to Jianye, his so-called brother was visited by the police.
And not the local police, but officers from out of town.
"Li, there’s a case of intentional injury. We hope you can cooperate with our investigation."
Alongside the police were a few oddly dressed individuals.
"Luzhou police handling a case in Jianye?"
Seeing his brother in trouble, counselor Guo Rong immediately stepped forward. "Looks like they want to take him back to Luzhou?"
"Please cooperate with our work."
The officers were polite; after all, they'd just found out Li Jie was a college student...
But to hell with that—what kind of college student is this?!
The entire Luzhou Police Department knew about this outrageous kid—a guy who not only beat someone up but, before doing so, had the audacity to make heart signs and peace gestures right in front of the surveillance cameras. Unbelievable!
But annoyingly, there was nothing they could do. They couldn’t arrest him.
No evidence, no arrest.
Just because he was in Luzhou?
"And if I refuse to cooperate?"
Li Jie took out a pair of sunglasses, strolled up to the officers, and put them on. "I just finished a competition, and I'm a bit tired. Unless you have a warrant, I'm going back to sleep."
Then he grinned, a sunny boy wagering that the Luzhou police had nothing but their badges.
And, just as Li Jie suspected, they really had nothing.
They’d only come to scare this so-called college kid.
"Seriously? You came all this way without any paperwork, just your IDs? Do Luzhou police write arrest warrants on the spot or something? Tsk, tsk..."
Li Jie shook his head repeatedly. "Upholding the rule of law, you know. Be more careful next time. Goodbye."
The two officers were stunned; they never expected this college kid to be so brazen.
"Stop right there!"
Suddenly, the group that had come with the Luzhou police stepped forward.
One of them had a buzz cut, broad shoulders, a thick neck, ears almost pressed to his scalp—a tough customer.
"And you are?"
Li Jie tilted his head, peering at him through the sunglasses.
"Kid, you’ve crossed the Kaihuang Group. Are you looking to die..."
"Officer, someone is threatening me. Are you going to do something or not?"
No response.
"Not going to? So the Luzhou police are working for the Kaihuang Group, huh? Good thing I recorded this."
With a sly grin, Li Jie pulled a sports camera from his jacket.
"You..."
"Hey!"
One officer tried to snatch it, but Li Jie quickly put it away, smiling at him. "Officer, if you try that again, I’ll be forced to defend myself. I’ve got natural strength—athletes across six provinces know it."
"You’re threatening me?"
The Luzhou officer was shocked, eyes wide.
"Idiot."
Li Jie couldn’t be bothered with them. He turned to the buzz cut, who was glaring at him. "Keep that dog Yang Ying in check. If he tries anything, he’ll lose his other leg. And another thing..."
Bang!
Li Jie raised his leg and kicked, slamming his foot into the man’s abdomen. The buzz cut took the blow like he’d been rammed by a wild bull, his body folding as he slid several meters away.
He looked up, stunned, only to see Li Jie slowly remove his sunglasses.
"Let this be your warning."
With that, Li Jie ignored the clueless Luzhou officers and the buzz cut clutching his stomach, and left with Guo Rong to attend the welcome banquet at the school.
Just as the Luzhou officers were about to leave, a loud voice rang out: "Stop! You think you can just come and go as you please?!"
Guo Wei, riding an electric scooter, zoomed past his son and Li Jie, heading straight for the Luzhou group.
"Let me see your credentials!"
He demanded the officers’ IDs, and after checking them, slapped each of them twice. "You idiots dare come here demanding my people? Who do you think you are with?"
"You're assaulting an officer..."
Slap! Slap!
"Me, assaulting an officer? Are you blind, mute, or is your brain made of paste?"
The officers were speechless.
Though Guo Wei was just the Associate Dean of the School of Industrial Design, he was far more than that.
After giving the two officers a beating, he also kicked them a couple of times, took their car keys, and waited for the city inspectors to arrive at Jianye Academy of Arts.
When one of them saluted Guo Wei, he pointed at the Kaihuang Group thugs and the two Luzhou officers, barking, "These two Luzhou idiots are messing with our students—look into it. And these Kaihuang Group guys, so full of themselves—if you can’t handle them, I’ll call the police myself."
After the local police came to take the Kaihuang Group people away, Guo Wei called the Canglong District TV station to have them follow up at the police bureau.
Once everything was settled, he checked the time. "Almost late!"
He hopped on his scooter, zipped off, then screeched to a halt a dozen meters away. Reaching into his pocket, he tossed the car keys behind him. "Those are for the two idiots."
The keys hit the ground with a clatter, but Guo Wei didn't look back. He headed straight for the school cafeteria, eager to take a photo with his son's sworn brother, Li Jie.
After all, this was the man who would bring fortune to his son's future!
